Where I would like to be? Working with people in the corporate world and understanding social behavior is without a doubt a setting where I want to continue gaining experience and expanding my knowledge. Idealistically I would love to see myself in a position where it would be intrinsically as well as extrinsically rewarding; I am at an age where I comprehend that money does not equate to happiness. As a novice in the field I do not yet have sufficient understanding of all the positions available with a degree in I/O. A plethora of occupations could benefit from the understanding of the fundamental principles provided by an I/O psychologist. While working at Ross Stores, I catch myself observing the hierarchical pyramid of the HR department, …show more content…
My long-term professional development goals would be the ladder I will need to climb to becoming a Director of a large HR firm. My route to achieving these goals has just started this year by attending graduate school, and hopefully will continue on. My initial step is to obtain an internship, preferably an internal internship. An internship in internal consulting would provide me with an opportunity to experience a variety of I/O projects dealing with employment selection, training, and performance feedback systems (www.siop.org). I have currently applied to five different internships within the last week, which I have found accessing the homepage of SIOP and SHRM homepage websites, to of which I have become a student member. I also plan to attend Magner Career Center next job fair (September 29) to better prepare for an internship interview and to find an Internship that would benefit me the most. According to SHRM, most level-entry positions require at least one-year experience (www.shrm.org), therefore, ideally I would attain my first internship throughout my first year as a graduate …show more content…
After reaching my target goal which will hopefully be as intrinsically and extrinsically rewarding as I imagine it to be, I will set a new goal for myself to continue climbing up the ladder as a Group Vice President of the firm. Ross stores is a very large organization and perhaps this is fast paced rhythm of employee promotions is not the norm the majority of organizations follow, I am solely using this particular organization as an example due to my limited knowledge in the field. However, I believe most HR firms within organizations will value the quality of an employee’s work. Regardless of the organization I will one day end up being employed in, I refuse to ever settle in a comfort zone if my work is not being sufficiently valued. If the organization that I will work for does not have a strong emphasis on employee appraisals, such a Ross Stores, I plan to apply to different organization for higher level positions where I feel I have sufficient knowledge and experience in. I will endeavor to always put in my best work to prove to my team, and most importantly to myself, that I am capable of achieving and exceeding leadership of a successful
Being able to lead and inspire a team to perform their best and strive to achieve goals. I do this through relationship building, being passionate about the goals, and influencing those around me.
This report shows and examines the extent to which the concept of the managerial escalator fits into the work of a manager. For this report I interviewed two managers of my choice, I investigated whether I could identify the two managers as hybrids and to what extent the followed the managerial escalator. I also identified to what extent it is possible to identify a Managerial Gap with either Manager. At the end, I discover the strategies which the employing organization has utilized in order to support these Managers.
Their faith in me allows me to push forward, and drive me to stay on track , so I can reach my goals. In addition, without my passion to want to help others none of my goals I want to achieve would be possible.
According to Grossman and Valiga’s Leadership Characteristics and Skills Assessment, the interpretation of scores for perception of what makes a good leader gave me the following results: good perception of a good leader and the scores for perception of your own ability to lead resulted in low perceived leadership ability for myself (Grossman and Valiga, 2013). With these results, I have concluded that I have low confidence in my leadership skills and ability. This would be an area of improvement needing work on my part. Part of being a good leader is being confident in one’s abilities and skills. Who would want to follow a leader who has n...
In this document I will share how I was influenced to believe in my own ability. I will also share how my view about management and leadership was changed in one conversation and how that conversation boosted my confidence. I will also share the manager that influenced my learning the most and how through not just words but also actions he showed me that being a leader is not being the person sitting in an office barking instructions, but being the leader is someone who keeps motivating his team to want to accomplish more and be more through actions. I will also share my learning through this assignment, and recommendations on fixing
Nurse educators play a vital role in the nursing profession and in the preparation of future nurses. As a clinical instructor, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study in the United States for my Master’s degree in the nursing education field for one year. This one-year intensive study has prepared me to do a better job as a nurse educator when I go back to China. The study has enhanced my basic medical knowledge and equipped me with essential skills and technologies to be a nurse educator, and most importantly, I feel I am ready to teach and prepare my future students for the ever-changing and challenging field of nursing with what I have learned here. I have confidence and faith in myself that I will be a good nurse educator. For the sake of doing better work when I go back to China, I set up the one, three, and five year goals as a guide to my career development.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
I am constantly motivated to improve myself and aim to be best I can possibly be. I enjoy being a role model, leader, and decision maker, but at the same time, over my lifetime I have learned that although I feel most comfortable in a leadership role. I have grown to understand that I have a specific talent set and others have other very specific talent set. Thus, I have learned, particularly this fall, that it is important to be flexible, ready to step aside and allow others to lead when their strengths enable them to command more advantageously, therefore the group can progress further toward the goal
Nurses need a seat at the table to ensure they have a voice to influence and shape their future. Nursing is constantly evolving and changing, and employers continue to raise the bar for nursing. Nurses understand early in their career the importance of continuing education to enhance future career opportunities. Numminen, Leino-Kilpi, Isoaho and Meretoja’s (2017) article contends professional development enhances personal satisfaction, rejuvenates the love of nursing, builds confidence and credibility. There are many avenues to pursue

When considering the term management, there has always been a common miss conception that this automatically makes an individual a leader. Leadership is only a single element of the management role. Many times managers are more comfortable utilizing a particular leadership style. While this may work well the majority of the time, certain employees or situations may require a different approach. Good leadership requires that the individual recognize the need for change to motivate their employees to accomplish the task at hand or to reach common goals. Understanding the importance of leadership is essential. However, the key element to focus on is what steps can be taken to improve one’s leadership capabilities. For many individuals this may be a difficult question to answer and may only be possible through self-assessment and reflection.
I have been a teacher for fifteen years, worked in two different school districts, and I have attended many professional development classes. I have had both positive and negative experiences from professional development.
