Dear members of the selection committee, Originally, I wanted to become a resident advisor because the position is a unique and powerful position on any campus; but it was particularly appealing to me on Union’s campus. My first real connection with anyone outside of my AOP class, of which I spent most the summer, was my RA. On a campus, as small and compact as Union, an RA is truly an invaluable resource to ask questions of. This is because not only can they answer them directly, but if they are unable to, they possess the resources to turn you to someone who could. My RA became the main point that I referred to for any questions, and in the end, became a close friend. Now I have seen these aspects and more which has inspired me to reapply …show more content…
Therefore, an OB-GYN must be able to juggle many tasks all at the same time while still performing at a high level. That is one thing that initially I did not anticipate the RA position aiding me in deepening my ability at performing at a high level all while keeping up with many different tasks. The RA positions requires weekly one on ones, staff meetings, committee meetings, RD and RA one on ones, etc. On top of that I have baseball multiple times per week, several clubs that I am on the board, my fraternity meetings and events as well as four courses. Initially, at the beginning of fall term I struggled to juggle all the duties but as I gained more and more knowledge and became more efficient I was able to juggle all of the tasks well all while maintaining great academic standing. This useful multitasking skill is going to help me develop into a better practitioner as I too will be able to juggle the potential conditions of two patients simultaneously and ensuring their swift …show more content…
Therefore, being part of the RA staff in Fox has allowed me to further continue to build a skill that I believed my years of sports prior to Union gave me a large foundation. Now I can coordinate and work together with several different types of people all working toward a single common goal much like what occurs in a delivery room. Furthermore, as I aspire to become a Head RA and eventually the leader of the delivery room I feel that many of my strengths aid me in excelling in such leadership roles. My top strength is that I revel in competition and strive to reach the top. This strength paired with two other of my top five strengths: learner and achiever, are particularly impactful in my motivation. I am constantly motivated to improve myself and aim to be best I can possibly be. I enjoy being a role model, leader, and decision maker, but at the same time, over my lifetime I have learned that although I feel most comfortable in a leadership role. I have grown to understand that I have a specific talent set and others have other very specific talent set. Thus, I have learned, particularly this fall, that it is important to be flexible, ready to step aside and allow others to lead when their strengths enable them to command more advantageously, therefore the group can progress further toward the goal
It would be of advantage to reflect again on this clinical skill in the future, to see how different I am from now and what I have learnt from my experiences (Boyd EM,
The five themes from my Clifton Strengths Report overwhelmingly echoed what I already see as active assets in my personal and professional roles. My five attributes in order from highest to lowest are Activator, Command, Woo, Communication, and Futuristic. These have aided and sometimes cause misunderstandings, but these are elements I have learned to hone, define, and exercise in order to develop others under my charge and myself.
I believe that the role of a Resident Assistant is a dynamic one. On the one hand, the position calls for a positive and approachable individual, of which I believe I am, so that the RA may be able to help his/her residents by giving emotional support so that the resident may better assimilate into college. However, a Resident Assistant must also appear clearly as a leader who
“Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow 18 percent from 2012 to 2022” ("Anesthesiologists"). This is a very good thing for upcoming physicians and surgeons because the there will be a large demand in the future due to the rapid increase in the world's population. As well as the aging of the current generation, as this generation gets older the amount of physicians needed will jump because most of them will require medical assistance once old age starts to overtake them, and they become feeble. There are a lot of skills required to become an anesthesiologist, other than the schooling. These skills include being able to manage one’s time efficiently.
Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses is essential to becoming and being a good leader. “Purposeful leaders understand who they are” (Mayfield, 2013). The author of this paper has had previous opportunities to lead, and will reflect on her experiences using the assigned inventory. She will evaluate her skill set and discuss ways she can be an advocate for change with the hospital and community in which she is employed. Lastly, she will identify one personal goal for her leadership growth and explore different avenues for achieving that goal.
Every leader must be able to accept the fact that they are not perfect and each person has things that they exceed at and things that come with a bit of difficulty. I do not see myself as being outstanding in a certain area but I do think that one of my talents is adjusting to change. When I came off to college I did miss my family a lot, but I kept myself busy by being more outgoing and finding new/different things to do. One of the reasons why I am probably so good at adapting to change is because I want change; I love switching things around and doing stuff another way.
them. If I can improve these skills, my patients will benefit as I aim to improve the standard
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Growing up I have always taken on leadership roles. I was always the organizers of group projects and was team captain of my club and high school soccer team for several years. This past experience with leadership roles has lead to me developing several of valuable traits associated with leadership. For example, I have strong communication and problem solving skills, which have helped me in my past leadership positions and will continue to be an asset in the future. Although I have had experience in leadership roles in the past, I learned through this reading that there is room for a considerable amount of growth. One thing that was a valuable lesson for me was that leaders must be followed as well as follow others at times. I have always took control of situations and tried to lead others, but now I realize that sometimes even leaders need to take a back seat and let their followers take some control. I will employ this in the future in the clinical setting to ensure that all of my subordinates or colleagues feel they have control and power over the decisions being made. This is definitely an area I intend to grow in and utilize in the future to enhance my leadership abilities. In addition, another lesson that I will put into practice in the future is building meaningful relationships with my colleagues. As a
As a leader I want to focus more what other people have to offer. I want to focus on what my followers have to say and what ideas they have to bring to the table. In a leadership situation everyone that is supposed to be involved should be involved. No leader should single someone out leaving the rest to sit silent. I should never pick favorites. There should be a somewhat fair playing field as far as problem solving and conveying ideas. I should promote this and do what I can to better myself if I see
M.D. Arnold once said, “A good leader leads the people from above them. A great leader leads the people from within them.” Reading this quote always reminds me of my decision to go into the Human Resource Management and Development field. It reminds me of what being in a leadership role is all about and how the wrong kind of leadership influence can potentially break or corrupt an organization. Ever since I can remember, I have always been the friend who others felt comfortable enough to speak to about their issues. I have always been the student who tries to find different methods to learn. I have always been the employee who makes sure my peers feel comfortable with the work given to them. I have always been a leader.
Being a leader for in almost any given situation has been an innate quality that I have possessed for as long as I can remember. I have always found myself nominating myself for leadership positions. My most recent and fulfilling leadership position would be my eleventh and twelfth grade school years when I held the position of Drum Major for Purnell Swett High School’s Marching Rams. Being in this position meant that I had to give up the spotlight of performance, turn my back to the crowd, and lead my fellow band members on and off of the field of competition, high school football games, and community parades. Over the course of these two years, I have learned many defining qualities about myself and have learned how to incorporate these newly learned and innate qualities to my everyday life. Throughout this two year experience the quality that I feel tested more than others, was the quality of patience. Often times before I held this position, I found myself becoming extremely impatient with individuals and situations when they would not go the way as planned or as smoothly as I had planned for them to go. This position taught me that not all situations are going to run smoothly and that we need to make the best of what we are presented with. It also taught me that not all individuals learn at the same pace, the same way, and at times do not handle individuals close to their own age giving instructions on how to complete a task. With this realization, I found myself trying to find methods of teaching that appealed to all individuals as well as found ways of not coming off as trying to force individuals to complete the tasks the way that I see fit.
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.
I am continually learning and growing in my leadership roles by applying knowledge gained through education and experience.true application I 'm will continue to model the way throw action. demonstrating the qualities that continue to support and inspired a shared vision by enlisting others to challenge the process to keep teaching the next generation are morals, values, and beliefs.I am utilizing the knowledge through my leadership training to inspire others to
Indeed, Leadership is not a position it’s a rewarding responsibilities. As such, I will continue to be a productive and efficient leader by maximizing my skills and knowledge to ensure high-quality teaching and learning for all students. I will continue to reinvent, enrich and improve myself to make a significant difference in the lives of my students and of those I have come in contact with. I want to be an agent of
