Nurse educators play a vital role in the nursing profession and in the preparation of future nurses. As a clinical instructor, I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to study in the United States for my Master’s degree in the nursing education field for one year. This one-year intensive study has prepared me to do a better job as a nurse educator when I go back to China. The study has enhanced my basic medical knowledge and equipped me with essential skills and technologies to be a nurse educator, and most importantly, I feel I am ready to teach and prepare my future students for the ever-changing and challenging field of nursing with what I have learned here. I have confidence and faith in myself that I will be a good nurse educator. For the sake of doing better work when I go back to China, I set up the one, three, and five year goals as a guide to my career development.

Becoming Magnet status, hospitals must show improved outcomes and clinical practice based on current evidence (Wise, 2009). The journal club and the EBP committee are the dispensable part for earning the Magnet status from the American Nurses ' Credentialing Center (ANCC). I will initiate an awareness campaign in August 2019. I will start from assessing and promoting the awareness of Magnet status in order to get the administrative support, and then form a task force to prepare for it in January 2020. The history of Magnet Status began in 1992. The American Nurse Credentialing Center first developed of the idea of Magnet Status after extensive research studies were perform during the nursing shortage of the 1980’s. The goal was to find out why some hospitals were able to retain and even recruit nurses during the shortage. It was found that of the 165 hospitals that participated, 41 shared seven core attributes. (Chaffee, Leavitt, & Mason, 2007) These seven attributes were the beginning of what have become the fourteen forces of Magnetism. The attributes or forces are based on nursing standards of care. That is the ability of the hospitals, working with the nursing staff to provide the excellent nursing care. That is care for the patient as well as the nursing staff and the hospital as a whole. The programs first awarded Magnet status in 1994. Since then several hundred have reached Magnet Status with several hundred more in the application process. In 2001 the first international hospital was awarded Magnet status. As with the medical field and even nursing all things must change, this includes the Magnet Program. Transitioning from academic nursing student to Registered Nurse/New Graduate Nurse (NGN) within the healthcare environment is a challenging task for many NGNs. They may encounter a number of challenges, such as the following: transition shock, professional isolation, lack of clinical experience, stress, lack of a support network and cultural incompetence. At the end, this essay will discuss the rationale for developing my two most important goals for the next twelve months. I presume the transition from academic nursing student to Graduate Nurse will be challenging and rewarding. In their findings, the researchers Doody, Tuohy & Deasy (2012) stated that for a successful transition NGNs need to be competent in a range of domains: interpersonal skills, managing workloads, providing health information, communication, and prioritising care delivery.

Magnet status means displaying professionalism in models of care with nursing leadership, organizational structure and evidence based practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) provides a model to help aid visually with understanding the components a hospital must achieve to be considered magnet. Our course, Transition to Professional Nursing, is barely two weeks old and already I am being enlightened and challenged to expand my experience of nursing. I will attempt to explain my personal journey and experience thus far including how and why I got here, my beliefs about nursing and related values, and my visions for the future.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.

Nurses understand early in their career the importance of continuing education to enhance future career opportunities. Professional development relates to how nurses continue to broaden their knowledge, skills, and expertise throughout their career, therefore enhancing their professional practice. This advanced knowledge is not only career boosting, but also opens a seat at the table giving nurses the power to make decisions and effect changes. Nurses have always been an undervalued asset to the health care industry; however, there is always a great need for them. With more uninsured Americans requiring safe, affordable medical care, the pressing issue of nursing education is not a priority (Aiken, 2011). Recently, there have been modifications taken place toward the current nursing shortage, the decrease of nursing graduates, a workforce that is becoming older, and other factors that influence nurse educator shortage (Baker, Fitzpatrick, & Griffin, 2011). Nurse educators are required to advise students, complete research, and perform committee work all while teaching (Baker, Fitzpatrick, & Griffin, 2011). They also have multiple jobs outside of practicing nursing and teaching. Nurse educators have stressful roles that hold many expectations, yet there is no independence in making their own decisions concerning things. Aiken (2011) suggests that the best way to begin combatting this shortage should include increasing the number of nurses who hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing from 50% to 80% by 2020 (p. 196). Forty-eight percent of nurse instructors are expected to be aged 55 and older and are predicted to retire by this time. (Baker, Fitzpatrick, & Griffin, 2011).
Profession of Nursing is always regards as a complex, dynamic and noble. The nursing profession requires many things such as hard work, a vast knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for the noble profession. All these qualities are needed to be an effective nurse. Today, nurses are living in a world of ever changing field of medicine .The present patient statistics poses, nurses are expected to take responsibility of accomplishing the requirements. The requirement for excellent nursing skills is added as well as well-formed skills in different aspect. Because of the high demand in excellent nursing care, the IOM have declared the recommendations for the future of nursing.
Nursing is a discipline of knowledge acquired through formal education and through life experiences. My philosophy of nursing is to always see the beauty in the art of being a nurse. I chose nursing as my profession as caring for people and the nursing profession is a true art form.
