Personal Philosophy of Nursing and Nursing Education Nursing is a discipline of knowledge acquired through formal education and through life experiences. My philosophy of nursing is to always see the beauty in the art of being a nurse. I chose nursing as my profession as caring for people and the nursing profession is a true art form. It takes empathy for people by upstanding morals and values. As a nurse, my goal is to provide competent, empathetic, compassionate, and optimal holistic care to the best of my ability to my patients. This philosophy stems from the values and beliefs instilled in me during my childhood. These values and beliefs are accompanied by trust worthiness, respect, compassion, and that is what drove me to this profession and is currently driving me as I continue my journey as a bedside nurse. My mission of being a nurse is to provide a non-judgmental care to all those in need regardless of race, spiritual beliefs, color, life style choices, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, financial status and disability. The aspects of my nursing philosophy and the belief/value system include knowledge, time management, compassion, caring, advocacy, respect, honesty and patient privacy. I will follow other teaching strategies including simulation, projects, lectures and case studies to facilitate learning and critical thinking. As a nurse educator, I will perform the job of designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising academic and continuing education program for nurses. I believe teaching requires an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and reciprocal learning.
