The coursework completed during Portfolio II enhanced my teaching and leadership skills, strengthened my curriculum development abilities, and reaffirmed my desire to integrate creative approaches to delivering instruction and disseminating research. The importance of curriculum revision and enhancement was an overarching theme during the Portfolio II period. Using the backwards design method, I first identified the desired results (course goals), determined the acceptable evidence (assessments and projects), and lastly planned the learning experience and instruction (course content). In HE 710: Leadership in Higher Education, I also used the UNIV 100 course that I teach as inspiration to create modules relating to leadership. I enhanced the original version of course by weaving activities throughout the course based on High-Impact Practices and the Social Change Model of Leadership Development. The focus was on consciousness of self, controversy with civility, and citizenship. The redesign included journal entry prompts to encourage consciousness of self, a roleplaying activity to model communication skills during difficult conversations, and an included a required volunteering experience to help promote

Instructor 1 assignment incorporated cooperation and collaboration as well as fostered a team environment so that all team members could reach their highest potential. As a team we were directed to establish goals, classify goals, define behavioral goals, evaluate objectives demonstrated through situations, measure assessment, collect performance data, and compare data with goals. One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.

In 1949, a small book had a big impact on education. In just over one hundred pages, Ralph W. Tyler presented the concept that curriculum should be dynamic, a program under constant evaluation and revision. Curriculum had always been thought of as a static, set program, and in an era preoccupied with student testing, he offered the innovative idea that teachers and administrators should spend as much time evaluating their plans as they do assessing their students.
