1. On the Summer I 2015, I took PADM 6080 Organization Theory and Behavior with 3 credits. The class had 24 students, with 4 international students as participants. The professor mentioned some assignments and we had to read 5 books for some discussion in every class meeting. We had to present a book chapter in-front of the class then we discussed it. The instructor gave opportunity to the students to deliver their input related to exam method, because this class was so compact, since we met only 12 times for 6 weeks. 2. On the summer II 2015, I took BLS 5980 Independent Readings Course in Disability Services (4 credits) with Prof. James A. Leja in College of Health and Human Services. This course helped me a lot to collect earlier data and information for my final research. I had to read various reading materials from journals, books, and online resources as my research resources. After I read those reading materials, then we did some discussion for 2 hours every Tuesday and Thursday. I gathered numerous data and information, including some books that I will use for my research, I can contact some former Congress members who had role in the ADAAA 2008 and the ADA related to historical background to arrange the Acts. He told me that I can always visit him to have some discussions related to my research later. For PADM 6170 Intergovernmental and Inter-organizational Relations (3 credits) course, I took it in Battle Creek, different city with Kalamazoo. The instructor for this course was my advisor, since I can’t drive and there was no direct transportation, so for some meeting I went with him, and with two other students also from Indonesia. The first is, should you make exceptions to rules such as allowing someone into a course they have not met a prerequisite for if you believe they did not receive the best opportunity to meet said prerequisite. My learning experience within inter-professional was very productive. I personally learned about working in collaboration with other professionals. My first impression was the first seminar which took place in the auditorium with a group of students from different professionals in health care sector. The actual seminar was a very good preparation for me and everyone who is in health professionals. The seminar gave me a very understanding of my future practice. It prepared me well on what to expect as I was not aware of the purpose of mixing different students from different professionals. It was my pleasure to be able to experience children with these disabilities. A day spent at Westgate was aery active one, I always was able to write plenty of notes from my observation. When the English language students were peer mentored with their 4 grade class, they had to write an autobiographical poem. The fourth grade students had to help their first and second grade ELL students write this poem. When the poem is all written out the students will then type up the poem on word and create a PowerPoint. After the poem was finished they would then present the poem in front of the whole class. This activity was pretty challenging for the fourth grade student because they had more reading and writing skills then the first and second graders. Ms. Lewis; the class teacher had to always redirect the ELL students because they did not understand what to do or what some of the questions said on the organizer. The next day I was in I was able to experience working with three students that had learning disabilities in the classroom. The teacher would separate the children in to groups, the learning disability children were paired up with me and they were given different book pages and problems to work on. Since these children were struggling in math I was able to help them comprehend. I was asked plenty of questions on how to do the problems. Usually Ms. Lewis is paired up with these students but today instead of me just observing them she wanted me to be hands on with the students and be able to interact with them. The next day I went I observe the boy with ADHD. It was very interesting to observe him. I was able to see him use assistive technologies to be able to focus. A good counsellor has to engage in several basic skills of interview including attending behaviour, questioning, encouraging, paraphrasing, summarising, and reflection of feelings (Achanta, 2014). These skills are obtained through practices and supervisions. Therefore, one has to evaluate the micro skills that he or she applies in counselling sessions to gain a better insight of his or her interviewing style, strengths, and limitations. Role-play sessions are considered effective in helping counsellors to practise their micro skills in a variety of situations that they might face (Ivey & Ivey, 2007). Reflective practice enables practitioners to learn to value themselves as significant people with values and feelings that are important factors in giving care. Whilst reflective practice allows the nurse to recognise the value of their experiences, they may also need support to work through a difficult situation. This is where reflection aids nurses in dealing with these challenging experiences (Johns, 1995). Reflection on experience offers nurses the opportunity to reflect on caring in practice in ways that its nature can be understood, where the skills necessary for effective caring can be developed and most significantly, where the values of caring for people can be highlighted, both to the individual nurse and the world in general (Johns 1996)
After understanding the theory behind both the trait and skill approach, I was eager to evaluate and reflect on my own leadership traits. It was interesting to see how the trait approach allowed me to better understand whether or not I have certain traits considered to be important for leadership, while skills approach allowed me to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses in the technical, human and conceptual skills. Psychology deals with the study of mental processes and a variety of behaviors. In order to fully comprehend ourselves, we need to understand the causes of our behaviors and our outlook on life. Habits and behaviors have positive and negative effects in our life. When we know ourselves and learn about our unique personality, we can develop and pursue goals. Psychology also helps us to understand other people and the differences of people. Gaining this knowledge can improve the relationships and enhance our communication skills. Throughout the psychology course I gained knowledge in various areas, and the topics that impacted me the most included: the introvert, anxiety disorders, stress management, self discipline and how to develop strong relationships.
For that day the students participated in their community based instruction lesson. The community based instruction lessons help the students practice and learn life skills that they will need such as cooking, how to shop at a store, how to pay for something at the checkout lines at stores, and how to behave in a restaurant. For their community based instruction for that day the students were learning how to behave in a restaurant and were taken to an Italian restaurant to practice how to behave and what to do while they are there. The teacher went through the steps of what to do when you are at a restaurant (enter the restaurant, follow the hostess to the table, sit properly in your seat, order your drinks when they waiter asks what you would like, etc.). The teacher put the students into groups of four with who they will be sitting with at their tables in the restaurant. The teacher practiced with the students by going over to each group and asked them what they would like. This taught the students how to be polite to the server (saying hello, having eye contact with the server, saying “yes please” and “thank you”, etc.) and how to order their drinks and food. The students also had note cards that they had filled out and the note cards had what they want to drink and what they want to eat. These note cards
Personality is the expression of a person’s traits according to ones feelings, mentality and behavior. It involves understanding individuals’ traits such as withdrawal and willpower and how various parts of an individual link together to form personality. Personality expresses itself from within an individual and is comparatively regular throughout in an individual’s life.
