I feel like my informative speech went very well. I worked for weeks on my outline, trying to make sure that it met the requirements and had a good amount of information. I do not like to memorize my speeches, so it is easier for me to give a speech if I have more information, that way I do have "backup" information. The more information I have, the easier it is for me to remember the important as well as small details to help give this speech. I didn't use much for note cards, because that forced me to become more comfortable with my information that I needed to use and explain during the presentation. The speech itself went very well. During my SHIELD speech, I wasn't very nervous because I was talking about me. It was an easy topic: my friends, family, hobbies, and my future. I've had these talks with a countless amount of people who probably didn't care to hear too much more than what I had to say. Nonetheless, I feel that speech went pretty okay. The difference between this speech and the previous is the amount of nerves due to the familiarity of the subject. When I got to my 3rd point: the different sizes of the ukulele and the differences between them, I was pretty self confident that I knew what I was talking about; after all, I am in band, and it is pretty easy for us band folk to talk about the difference in our instruments. Before those points and facts, I was pretty nervous about giving what came before that part in my speech. This was relatively new information for me, I never thought to look up the history of the ukulele and learn about it's legendary history. While giving this speech, I could not help but think of all the things that could possibly go wrong

Perhaps, also wondering if it actually will be informative for an individual can be something very intimidating. Kevin chose to talk about the World cup, something that has never brought much entertainment to me. The way that Kevin was talking, with so much passion shown to his audience caught my attention, not to mention the humor he used along with it. Presenting a speech to the class is as if one was having an ongoing conversation with strangers and letting them know why the topic brings so much interest to you. The speaker organized the presentation very well and made it easy to follow for the audience. She chose words that got the message across clearly and were not difficult to understand. Since this was targeted at a younger audience, she simplified the concepts and was very specific. The sentences of the speech were structured appropriately, and had no grammatical errors. She also included some transitions in between, especially when moving from one idea to the next which made the flow
Upon reviewing my speech, I can understand where I need to improve my speaking skills, as well as places where I just need to fine-tune them. I chose to talk about skiing because it is an activity that I look forward to every winter, and knowing I had a trip out west over break I knew I would be able to talk about this topic easily. Although I do think that I gave an effective speech, I think there were many things to learn from the overall content, organization, and delivery of the speech. The content of my speech was an area that I think was adequate for an informative speech.
While watching my video I did notice that I was able to understand and clearly know what the main point was. I spoke in a clear and a tone loud enough for everyone to hear. The speech was organized very well, so one idea or thought flowed to the next. I don’t think I need to change anything in regards to my central idea being clear. I was satisfied with that part of the speech.
Other than that, the presentation itself went well, but, they were some feedbacks on the slides we did. It could have been improved by adding pictures to make it seem more interesting so people would not feel boring during our presentation.
The way to give the best speech possible is to plan in advance. There are several important things to remember when planning a good informative speech. The first is to pick a topic that will keep the audience interested or will be important for them to know. For example when talking to college students it is best to pick a topic that they all have in common like the rising cost of tuition or their ever increasing student loan debt. Everyone in an audience of college students has had to deal with financial aid, loans or scholarships at some point in their college career and can all relate to the topic so it will hold their interest. The second is to relax and be comfortable and conversational. No one pays attention to speakers who are stiff and boring; showing personality and a relaxed confidence will make the audience feel comfortable and like they are having a conversation with the audience and instead of being lectured at. One thing that could have gone better in the process is actually finishing the project a week before our presentation rather than several days before. This would have allowed us ample time to fix any problems in the presentation and practice it enough to where we have it memorized. We were all stressed out several days before trying to memorize the speech. Piecing together the paper went really well, and I do not believe anything could have gone better with that besides putting in higher quality information.
I thought I did a good job in creating the Prezi, and making the presentation seem very professional and attention grabbing. The biggest challenge that I had was communicating the material directly to the audience effectively. This had been a problem for me in my entire life, however, I believe that this is something that will gradually improve by experience and practice. Although the presentation as a whole may not have ended up as successful as I wished; I had learned a lot about writing a research paper, and experiencing the feeling of speaking to a crowd. Many people said that my presentation, or PowerPoint, was clear and had quality slides. A few of the points that I personally did well on were being knowledgeable about the topic, speaking loud, and presenting the ballet positions well. Some things that I was told that I needed to improve upon included slowing down the rate at which I spoke, making more eye contact, and reading less off the slides. To improve on these three skills for future presentations, I will be sure to breathe when speaking to slow down how fast I speak. I will also practice future presentations while focusing on looking away from the slides and looking off into the audience.
While presenting, my leg began shaking! It took me by surprise because this has never happened before. I spoke with no signs of nervousness, but my leg shook like I was. I do not know if it was noticeable to my peers, but it was something I could evidently tell while bestowing information upon my classmates. The informative speech has been different than my SHIELD speech because my the informative contains more historical facts rather than personal information. My topic was also over something I was not truly passionate about. I know I should have done something that came from my heart, but I felt like I overanalyzed multiple topics that I had in mind doing. So, I concluded that each would be better for a different kind of speech. The SHIELD speech was definitely something that placed closer to my heart, making it easier to share with my class. Something I will do differently next, is practice more. I mentioned that earlier in my other journal, but I am saying it again in this one. Practicing more is one of my goals for oral communications so, I will continue to pursue it until I reach it. Making a successful public presentation or speech to an audience was a very big task for me before I joined the public speaking class. I was always frightened and very nervous. Since then I now understand the process of making a speech or a presentation including coming up with a topic and from this topic develop the main points of the speech, research, organize my points, revise them, edit and make a magnificent presentation to any audience. People in the audience might sometimes agree or disagree with my opinion or points, it was therefore necessary to communicate my information clearly to the audience without making any judgments since every person was entitled to a different opinion and views about things.
3. Slides – I think my slides were very clear, and well-visualized for audiences. I guess my slides easier to understand my slide than my speech.
This speech did not make me nervous nor did it stress me out. I felt comfortable talking about color blindness because I had a good understanding of what it was, making it super easy to talk about. The informative speech stuck out in my mind because it was one of the speeches that I made really good eye contact, and I felt like I was saying very useful information unlike many of my other speeches. I am so glad we did an informative speech because it help me gain more confidence in my speaking abilities. Practice is a major role that needs to be played when it comes to presenting. Practicing, I feel gives you more confidence in your speech, and more preparation than if you were to not practice. Rehearsing before the speech then presenting makes you seem like you actually know what you are talking about even if the only reason you know all these facts is because of study and practicing. Practicing through my speech really helps me with my presentation, if I practice enough, I feel very confident to where I wouldn’t need t a paper to look at notes during the speech. This concept is important for anything. Practicing will always help you with any future task.
