What was your biggest challenge? What did you learn from this experience? Be sure to also share: My senior year in high school I did a presentation. In this presentation, my group had to create a business. We decided to create a music school. I had a powerpoint slide, a board, and a guitar. I played and sang one song. Than my teacher asked me to do another song. Than she asked for a third song and when I said no she threatened my grade. My biggest challenge was facing my fear of singing in front of my peers. I learned that even though I was scared at first, breaking that boundary of shyness got me a good
grade. Q: What would you like to learn from the class? I would like to learn the significant skills that would get me into the industry. I would like to learn the multitude of ways to present not just a project, but how to present yourself when doing presentations. I would like to learn how to make my presentation earn me lots of money. I would like to learn useful tips that will stay with me throughout my life time on how to present a presentation. On this internet, the website said that there are two Calories per one mini marshmallow. The website also said that in one cup of marshmallows there is 159 Calories. This is the same as the back of the marshmallow label we had in class. On the label it said there were 83.2 Calories per gram.
I am a plate that is made of clay that was taken from the Earth of Japan. But before I was made into a plate I was up to the mountains near a big forest that had a Jinja on top a beautiful waterfall where water fell from the top to the bottom and sometimes flowing to rivers. But when winter comes the waterfall would freeze into shards and when the winter goes the shards and snow turn into water filling up the waterfall making a waterfall from the top to the bottom flowing with an immense amount of water to rivers and ponds that would sometimes connect with the waterfall. My maker crafted me to be used as art depicting many natural objects or buildings even sometimes people in the drawing. I am also used to hold a meal for a person who would eat the nourishment from top to bottom. Most of the time I would have fish from the ocean or rice that was farmed in flatlands on top of me.

However, I did notice that there were a few faults in the presentation, one being a fault that I personally consider may have negatively impacted our presentation. It seems to me that I was not able to deliver the presentation to the best of my ability as I had let my nerves get the best of me when talking to the staff. The reason for this was that I was not comfortable with taking on the speaking role that I was given and that there were last minute changes made to my slides right before presenting. Bruner, (1996) stated that the learning process for staff relies on the “meaningful dialogue” that is presented by the presenters. In this case, I think that my speech was not strong enough to grab the audience’s attention, thus not being able to portray my message about what an Ofsted inspection is and what the results from an Ofsted inspection mean. Although I did not necessarily enjoy the presentation aspects of this class, I definitely feel like I have improved as a presenter throughout the course of this class. The first presentation was pretty nerve-wrecking, which is my normal response whenever I have to present in front of people. With each presentation I have felt myself become more comfortable in front of people, less dependent on my notes, and just more confident in general. Even though I doubt public speaking will ever be one of my strong suits, I have become much more at ease with presenting and speaking in front of other people. I believe that, if I feel nervous in the future, I will not be afraid of this emotion like what I did before. This course provided me knowledge on how to make me relax. Little by little, I have gained the confidence of combating the fear of public speaking in this course. All these precious experience will continue benefiting me in the future. The presentations were meant to test the knowledge that we gained from the assignments that we did throughout the quarter. For the presentation, I used what learned from the Rhetorical Analysis, which I incorporated the use of pathos, logos and ethos. The RIP essay that we did was solid reference for the presentation. However, I also wrote a transcript to organize and plan my presentation. The process of creating the PowerPoint was not complicated because most of the information were drawn from the RIP essay. After creating a PowerPoint, I practiced a couple of time in front of a mirror and also presented to my friend. The most important slide of the PowerPoint was the “So What” slide because it shows the purpose of this presentation (Figure-17). On the day of the presentation, I was not as nervous as I thought I would be. I believe it was because of the individual and group presentation that we did over the quarter. Overall, I enjoined this experience, and I appreciated the comments from Professor Meghdadi because they are the key to help me to become a better presenter. However, I chose to do my presentation by myself. I didn't want to compromise with another person on what we should present; I also did not want my grade to be effected by another individuals actions. This presentation went fairly well for me. I chose a Ted Talk that I had seen before; a presentation about the faults of the criminal justice system, by Bryan Stevenson. For this presentation, I created a visual very similar to the poster I used for the first presentation, and the Academic Showcase for the fall semester. I was slightly worried about this presentation because I did not have long to memorize what I wanted to say. I did create notecards, but I chose not to use them, and I'm glad I chose not to. Coming into speech class, I mentally and physically prepared myself for what was in store. I never really like giving speeches, especially impromptu speeches. Signing up for speech was hard for me to do because I absolutely did not want to take it and was considering not taking it in high school and wishing that I would never have to take it. My fears for COMM 101 was being judged. I am not really one to care about what people think about me, but something about public speaking gives me a fear that people will judge me if I stutter or not be able to complete a speech. Public speaking is a lot like being cut open and operated on by a room full of people. All of their hands poke, prod, and shift around inside you as you try to guide their hands towards your heart. The whole ordeal is extremely invasive and morbid, and I absolutely love it. Some people tend to stress over what the audience thinks of them, but not me. It took me a long time to realize it, but every audience wants nothing more than to have a good time and enjoy the show. No one out in the crowd is analyzing your delivery or nitpicking your word choice. Everyone wants to believe that you are a great speaker. First, though, you must believe that yourself.

Today, I presented on my post high-school plans. My plans was going to wilkesboro community college, to become a mechanic. I feel as if I presented well but, I know there were a few things I could have done differently this time around. Some advice I would give myself, would be to practice more before I present. With practice I wouldn’t be as nervous and practice would help me from looking at the powerpoint less than the amount of times that I did. The nerves played a factor at the beginning of my presentation, when I wasn't sure how to lead into my topic smoothly. Nealy and my parents helped me tremendously over the years to overcome my fear. I stayed after school to practice in front of Mrs. Nealy and a small group of my closest friends. My parents recorded my speeches so that I could watch my body language and practice over and over again. My sister, although 3 years younger than I was, provided me with many funny but ingenious comments that help me to learn.
