What was most surprising to me most about writing in college, it’s the fact that it’s more fun and it had a lot more interesting topics to write about. When I went to high school I always almost got a C or a D in writing but now that I’m in college I don’t feel that I struggle as much as I did in high school. But when I think about why I am doing so much better now in writing, I think its due to the fact that I have so much more help from tutors and better teachers. I’m also surprised that I’m getting A’s and B’s now in writing. During the course of English 102, the most demanding paper that I came across was the paper 3. The reason why I say this is, due to the fact that all the research that was needed and the fact that you are limited to current events in Arizona, and also the fact that it …show more content…
The fact is that I had a terrible time in the past writing big papers I always struggled with them. The second thing that my skills grew as a writer I learned different methods of figuring out what to write about. Like for example, the chart on paper 3 were you make a common grounds chart and see what stakeholders have in common with what ideals they had. That way you have a clear image in your mind of what you should write about. I learned many new things from my peers work form the way they organize their work to ways they phrased their word things. But what I valued most was their advice they gave me so I can improve my paper, and I also liked their pure honesty. When it comes down to my greatest strengths as an academic writer I would say thinking outside the box and finding different approaches to a subject matter. The only thing that I can think of to cultivate this is to just keep on thinking outside the box in different papers. The greatest challenge I still have is that I have a hard time writing about myself and finding words to explain
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
Another one of my strengths as a writer and a student is my determination to complete every assignment to the best of my ability. I have never been the type of student that does not get her work done, whether it be an essay for English or a workbook page for Geometry. I work diligently in all my classes and aim to learn as much as I can from every assignment. Since English is not my best subject, I work twice as hard to improve every day and bring out the best writer in me. My determination is what drove me to enhance my weaknesses and polish my strengths.
Strengths and weaknesses are possessed amongst all people, but only the most significant ones stick out the most. My biggest strength as a writer is my ability to learn from mistakes and capitalize on them. I have made many mistakes in my writing, but as this semester went on I ended up actually learning from mistakes. What also really helped me was that my essays were all graded so specifically to where I could know exactly what I did wrong. From scoring a poor grade of sixty-one on my first essay, “Nuclear Detriments: Screw Nuclear Power” to improving to a ninety-five on my last essay, “Crisis in South Korea” reflects a direct correlation in my ability to learn and fix the mistakes that I make. Although I didn’t do amazing throughout the sem...
Throughout this semester, my writing skills have improved. I came into this class as an immature writer but by practicing certain skills such as being able to execute and understand writing as a process, being able to explain and critique my capacities for reflection and meta-cognition, and my ability to classify and critique my capacities at evaluating and selecting sources I’ve become a better writer.
My writing process usually begins by me thinking of what I want to write about, whether it’s a reflective, narrative, argumentative-persuasive, compare and contrast, or process analysis paper/essay. Usual finding what I want to write about takes up most of my time. Once I figure that out, I think the this step is the most important to keep in mind while writing. Knowing who your audience is is key to having a successful paper. If you do not, then your paper will not have as big of an effect. This applies to any type of paper you write, and I learned that very quickly. Nest, I would write the rough draft of my paper, this rough draft would just be putting my ideas
“I believe that I’m at least competent as a writer as I can usually fluidly express ideas, but those technical skills will be even further crucial once I enter college and the adult world. The sooner I can learn these skills to better my writing, the better prepared I’ll be for any writing situation I find myself in the future.” When I entered the class of Front Range Composition on January 10th, I was armed only with my expectations of what I hoped to learn and the basic writing knowledge I had gained from other classes. Writing had never been my strong suit in my academic years, but I was capable enough to work my way through and still pull off an A in the class. Not this class.
) My earliest memory of writing is from kindergarten when we had to rewrite a story that the teacher wrote on the whiteboard. I remember not really liking it because of how long it took me to write one sentence. I remember feeling so defeated because I once wrote the wrong story all together. Everyone in my class made fun of me as a result.
Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me. One of our first assignments that our class did was write a response to a piece of work we read, and use that as inspiration in our own poems. I wrote a poem about a necklace that held meaning to me, and the end result surprised me. At first I thought I would fail the assignment because I didn’t think I had the skills to write an acceptable poem, but came to find out I had surpassed my expectations. When writing about my shaping influence for my third essay, my research paper, I first had to set the scene for the readers and give them a reason to read.
I do not think of myself as much of a writer. To me a writer is someone who enjoys writing. Lately in the past few years I have had a strong dislike for it. For so many years I have been forced to write. Writings such as research papers, persuasive essays, class journals and personal narratives for classes in high school.
Some people are lucky enough to discover what they are meant to be at an early age. I was lucky enough to find out what I was not meant to be—a writer. I first suspected that my writing abilities were subpar during the regular assignments I was given in the fourth grade. While my classmates easily filled up sheets of notebook paper with descriptions of their summers and weekends, I could barely (and sometimes didn’t) meet the minimum length requirement. I struggled to find the words to express what I wanted to say, and I often found myself hastily scribbling down a conclusion to a half-finished argument as my time ran out.
As I look back on my schooling I can’t believe how many papers I’ve written throughout my life. Naturally as I’ve grown up, my writing has developed from learning how to write sentences all the way up to the pages of essays that consist of deeper criteria. I know for a fact that I’m a better writer now than I was before. College writing is more challenging and I’ve had to learn how to adjust to it.
previously when I used to struggle with coming up with a well-written paper. I have sharpened my critical analysis skills. Rather than concentrating on biographical background or proposed meanings, I have continuously learned to ask why on various levels. I often challenge myself into evaluating a text as much as possible and understand each and every detail. I read various novels to identify with the various styles of writings.
I am still shocked to see that I can manage the few projects that I have at the moment. I've got 3 kids at home, and it's normally chaotic during the holidays (every parent out there knows what I mean).
