As a writer, I almost never have enough time to myself. I am still shocked to see that I can manage the few projects that I have at the moment. I've got 3 kids at home, and it's normally chaotic during the holidays (every parent out there knows what I mean). So, today I had a few hours to myself, which gave me time to go to the store and buys a few goodies at the dollar tree store. I normally buy some bagels and a few snacks for the kids and me, but I also buy a lot of notebooks and writing supplies (you know, for my writing). While I reached the cash attendant I've noticed that there some very interesting trays, just as I passed the fresh and cold sodas (It was so hot I had to go for a Fanta). I picked one of the many trays (they are party
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
I just submitted my last set of grades for the semester. This is always a big weight off my shoulders, but since it will be the last set of grades I ever submit at the University, it is an even greater relief. And so I think it's time for me to "give back" as the kids say.
My literacy journey began long before I had actually learned how to read or write. While recently going through baby pictures with my mother, we came across a photo of my father and I book shopping on the Logos boat, a boat that would come to my island every year that was filled with books for our purchasing. Upon looking at this picture, my mother was quite nostalgic and explained how they began my journey to literacy through experiences like this. My earliest memory of experiencing literature was as a small child. My parents would read bedtime stories to me each night before I went to bed. I vividly remember us sitting on the bed together with this big book of “365 bedtime stories for 365 days” and we read one story each day until we had
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
My thanksgiving break was awesome! Here is how it started when I got down stairs from bed I smelt breakfast. When I ate breakfast I got dressed in nice pants and a shirt. Then I got on my belt with my 8 inch knife. Then we decided to load up the truck with food. Then we started are journey to my cousins house her name is Prarie. Then when we got there I hugged her and said hi.

I am not, by any means, a Shakespeare, Stephen King, or John Grisham. It would take enormous amounts of time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot at a Pulitzer Prize. Yet, I intend to progress my writing by setting more achievable goals, building on new ideas, and developing new skills. Also, I will use the advice of instructors and peers, and draw from previous writing experiences to mold this and future writing experiences.
Reading is to writing as breathing is to living. When you read, you interpret life. When you write, you provide your perspective. I work with multi-level educators daily and the common denominator is the fact that they need for their students to read. Read math, science, social studies and even music.
I have never considering writing to be one of my strong suites when it came it academics, perhaps adequate at best. Especially when it came to writing on a subject based on information or statistics, however after the last few essays, not only do I have a new found confidence in my writing skills, but I’m incredibly excited to write about new and more challenging subjects. The last three essays walked me through the writing process slowly but surely, challenging me a little more each time. As I approached the next assignment I took what I had learned from the previous one and made sure to apply it to the assignment I was currently working on.
What has brought me to this class and what do I expect to gain you may ask. You also may wonder what is my background in writing, or even my strengths and weaknesses with such. Follow along with me as I tell my story of composition and me. Most people to whom know me well will tell you I disked writing, but never knew why. I have never considered myself an accomplished or even an elegant writer.
I have been highly involved in language arts, reading and writing, ever since I was young. It has played an important part in my life as I’ve always been an avid reader. Books were my portal to the bigger world, a world full of imagination and different peoples and places. I transitioned from being a reader to a writer, and a big part of my growth as a writer has come from an organization called Writers & Books located in New York State, a group that aims to help young writers bloom through different classes that approach writing and words creatively. The people there have greatly encouraged me as a newbie artist writer with their enthusiasm for both writing and teaching.
Every child grows up in school learning the basics such as the alphabet and reading simple books like Dick and Jane. As children grow older, they either come to love or hate reading as a hobby. There is really no in between. I was fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to read and write outside of the classroom which cultivated into a love for reading and later in my life writing. My early reading and writing experiences have helped shape me as the person I am today.
YES! I finally got a haircut and now I feel so good, like I have been asking for a couple months and it finally happened. I got the haircut I talked about in the last one, comb over pompadour style, and it looks really good. I am also catching up in a lot of my classes and in Exploratory I am fully caught up. But I haven't done much of the found money thing because I have only been doing it in class because David really messed up papa's laptop. I am going to the boys and girls club after school with Cory and when I am there I think I'm going to do some homework that I haven't been able to do on the computer. Mom is getting her job really soon and I am excited because last time when she had her job it was awesome. She would take us out more, we got more stuff.
...curate and working piece of scientific software by a deadline, forcing me to learn how to deal with it all on the fly. I now feel immensely more prepared to take on any project, and far more accustomed to academia, having taken my first steps down the path of research.
