Reflection Paper
Writing was not my one of my strengths. However, I feel that during this class course, my writing has improved significantly due to the differ types of essays that I have experimented with and written. I have written various articles during the past three to five months all of which have proved to be very challenging. It was rather a difficult experience taking the first step while writing my essay. However, moving past this has opened my mind to a greater extent. Presently, I have learned how I can be able to sustain a logical argument in my paper in an organized matter. My writing has become more concise. I can put out various complexities in a text rather than sticking to a partisan type

The problem that I encountered which lead to me writing papers that were not both credible and good written was that I used to do a lot of procrastination. As a result, I would get poor grades on my papers. Presently, I can start doing my research early, consult various sources, understand the vocabulary and understand the different types of writing. My writing is more interesting that previously when I used to struggle with coming up with a well-written paper. I have sharpened my critical analysis skills. Rather than concentrating on biographical background or proposed meanings, I have continuously learned to ask why on various levels. I often challenge myself into evaluating a text as much as possible and understand each and every detail. I read various novels to identify with the various styles of writings. Looking at my first three essays, I realize that I did not satisfactorily cover what was required. I used a lot of description in my work. The papers appeared to lack structure and organization. However, I have learned how to organize my thoughts, and I could start constructing outlines to ensure that I have a general idea of what I am supposed to write. I have improved various elements of writing including learning the correct grammar, the layout of the paper and the use of the white
I am more knowledgeable about invention, arrangement, style, and delivery, all in which create a masterful piece of text. A few examples, I have learned to organize and construct my thoughts and ideas clearer. I have been taught to use stronger transitions and focus more on the delivery and content of the body element of essays. Further, the instructions and advice I have received throughout this term have influenced my understanding of the purpose of writing. My outlook on writing has been modified by shifting my perception of writing from, writing to prove I am a good writer by perceiving it as using “fluffy” or BIG words to impress my audience. I grew to understanding that good writing’s purpose is to engage the writer by mind-striking ideas and arguments, which therefore will prove and title me as a “good writer”.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness.
...t I have improved this area over the course of the semester. I am at the milestone in my writing, however, with hard work and determination I will improve as a writer throughout my college years.
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
As a result, improvement in writing was achieved and writing skills were taken to the next level. This year, my I believe essay was my best work in English. There was something interesting about that essay. Confidence was the key to success in this essay.
One skill that I wish I had time to improve on is citing sources in MLA style. Through the course, I refused to seek help from my professor until week seven, one thing I regret doing. that could have allayed the fear and doubt I had about this course. Any questions I had could be cleared up as the course progressed. My essays through the subsequent weeks have demonstrated my strength and weaknesses. I do not have many strengths when it comes writing, but still I consider my greatest strength in writing to be being able to clearly understand the prompt and answer it correctly, especially with the analysis essays. I think this is just because I spend most of the scarce time on hand just to think about the prompt, for example, when I was preparing for my rhetorical analysis essay on globalization I thoroughly read both article on globalization by both Kwame Anthony Appiah and franklin Foer .An obvious struggle I have as a writer is organization and transitions. I tend to jump from one topic to another and sometimes cover. I should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs to make my reader understand the logic of my paper. I have not had enough writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. I do sometimes admit that it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be worth it when I become a proficient
During the first essay that our class had to write, things like my thesis was strong and focused. In the second essay that our class wrote, I was able to notice the way we are supposed to document sources and how to site the sources we use in our essays or in general. Slowly but surely, I finally understood how to cite sources correctly and what was needed for information within the citation. Because of those two essays alone, I came into the realization that I am not too bad of a writer but there are definite things that are needing to be worked on to better myself as a
My English teachers always told me, my essays don't need to be perfect just do my best so I always tried to do my best on my papers. I think I did learn new techniques that make the revision process easier for me, so now I can notice that my writing is getting
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
It is an essential skill to analyze and understand the meanings of different genres and important writings. This skill is useful in all subjects and since the beginning of this year my ability to understand challenging readings has helped overall. Being exposed to analytical reading has expanded my knowledge base and has made me more well read, and I have been able to make connections though other subjects. Listening to other viewpoints in group discussions, has helped me see in a new way, which is ultimately reflective
“I will hire someone not with just communication skill, but also with the skill that puts words down onto paper.” When I went on the Accounting Bus Trip more than a month ago, one of the staff recruiters at Lids Sport Group in Indianapolis gave an informative speech that made me realize how important writing is towards nearly every aspect of life. Indeed, thanks to the enrolment in English W131 class, I was able to mark my leap from high-school writing experience to that of college level. By giving a deeper insight into rhetorical analysis and placing special emphasis on argumentative essays, the course rendered me chances to a better understanding of these two different types of papers.
