My Writing Experience

I do not think of myself as much of a writer. To me a writer is someone who enjoys writing. Lately in the past few years I have had a strong dislike for it. For so many years I have been forced to write. Writings such as research papers, persuasive essays, class journals and personal narratives for classes in high school. These writing assignments were just to be graded on the content. As well as accomplishing the intended purpose of the paper. This type of writing really turned off the idea that writing can be fun, and therefore I only wrote in class the required papers to get the necessary grade. For instance, writing about plastic surgery. When I wrote about this subject I had no personal interest in it and therefore had no desire to write about it. This did not make the research aspect of the paper any more enjoyable, I pushed the research till last minute because I dreaded writing the paper. This procrastination caused me to not only do worse on my paper but disliked writing the paper more. My least favorite part about writing is looking up the information for the paper. Going to the computer and finding reliable and quotable sources. When writing these essays in school the teachers I had also made us keep track of every source and turn in information on every source that we used in the research phase of developing papers. I prefer to do a lot of research and pick which sites or articles I want to include, not turning in evidence of this because I then stress more about achieving the deadline and less about the content I am gathering. Once I obtain the information, I can usually get the paper done quickly but it is just the process of gathering the information that I want to use. Developing the paper is easier after the leg work is done. Also, I do not like finding a way to start of the writing. There is just something about being able to interpret what you read in book reports that just makes writing come to me more fluently. However, in research papers you state only facts and leave your opinion out of the paper. This makes the topic hard to write about for me, unless I have a personal connection with the subject matter that the paper is being written about. For example, I had to write a research paper about military families being separated from their families for prolonged periods of time. This subject was easier to write about and find research about because I come from a military family. My dad left my mom to raise four kids at home while he was in another country for months at a time because of his job. Subject such as these come much easier for me to write about. Research papers and other papers all just depend on the subject as to whether I enjoy writing about
