As a frequent writer, I’ve noticed that writing is one of those factors that doesn’t come easily to me. Often, I find myself struggling to write papers or essays. Writing is something that I’ve never really put much interest or a lot of effort in; however, when it came to writing a paper as an assignment for a class, I always tried my best to write well. I’ve realized through my writing experience and knowledge that writing takes time and has to be worked on repeatedly before it is a polished paper. Writing takes a lot of thoughts and ideas along with revision and editing. One has to spend time on writing to make sure that it satisfies them or others. Not everyone is gifted to write well, some individuals are better at writing than others around them, but that doesn’t mean that one can’t write at all. Everyone knows how to write, the only difference is that everyone has their own way or their own style of writing in certain ways. The very first chapter we read of Mindful Writing changed my perspective to see that anyone and everyone can be a writer. Brian Jackson, the author of Mindful Writing, wrote, “In this book I want to convince you that anyone writing anything for any reason is a writer…Writing is not something we do just in school. It is a vital means of influence in all facets of life.” It was through that very first reading that I began to think about writing as more than just a dreaded part of school, and I began to think of myself as more than just a student forced to write. Our very first assignment, My Writing Story, helped me to reflect on my identity as a writer. I realized that I was a writer every time I wrote in my journal or captioned an Instagram post. Throughout the semester, as I came to love writing more with each paper I wrote, I was able to create my identity as a writer. I learned that I loved research and analyzing others’ thoughts and ideas, but that writing simply on my own opinions, wasn’t my favorite past time. Through the countless readings this semester, I saw which writing styles I loved and which didn’t speak to me. Each day of class, I chipped away at creating my identity as a writer, and I’m grateful for the lessons that helped me shape and realize that
Writing is a way in which a person can express their thoughts and ideas through the use of words. Everybody has their own writing styles. Some may consider theirs as inspirational while others think of it to be bad. Writing requires a lot of patience and time. In my case, writing has never been my favorite thing to do. I am no Shakespeare and I never will be, writing has always made me feel uncomfortable. In the past, I had always considered writing to be one of the most difficult tasks. I often wrote about topics that were not of my interest. I rarely did any writing out of school or for leisure as most people do. I only wrote because the teacher asked us to. Writing has always been forced onto me. Even though my writing isn't that great, I've felt that I've never been given the freedom to express my voice. Academic writing has always made me anxious. And, anxiety had resulted in my procrastination. Even though I consider writing to be one of the toughest tasks, I've felt that giving myself enough time to think allows me to do better. Silence helps me think beyond horizons. However, the fear of impressing someone, the anxiety and frustration is what makes me a developing writer.

Writing is an art form that some people are blessed with being naturally talented at, and some individuals must learn and be instructed in order to become a talented writer. In our modern day American society, there is a strong need to have talented writers, so there is a large push to teach writing from grade school all the way up through college. I am an individual who was never naturally good at writing, but I was taught how to be a good writing. From my education I think I have made great strides in my ability and can pick out some qualities that distinguish good writing from bad writing. Overall, good writing takes many forms.
If students are taught the modern writing process, they will become better writers as a whole. Writing is dynamic and requires much dedication to improve upon style. Improvement stems from repetition, and incorporating writing into every aspect of life will enhance writing skills. A skilled writer will learn to write from many perspectives, including their own and their audiences. Finding your personal ritual will help you write a more proficient piece of work.
Many people fail to realize that English writing is a very vital skill that everyone should learn. I always thought that there was not much when it came to writing essays. Usually I am given a topic, I write five paragraphs and then I am done, However, I was wrong. There is more to writing then just writing multiple paragraphs on any given topic. There were many styles and types of essays that I have never done before or knew existed. I was intimidated at first, but my professor provided many activities in order for me to succeed in writing. Many of these activities were intended learn and master different skills so I could become a better writer.
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Being able to write efficiently is really important for any persons who consider themself such as a writer. Writing essays aren't easy, and while books help to improve writing they will not do much for essay writing. I always had a passion for writing but I don't consider myself a very good writer. I really started writing when I was in high school. I had no talent for writing but I had a willingness to grow and surprise some teachers that I loved. My two last years of high school, I was very lucky to have some very extraordinary teachers whom help me a lot with my writing. During this fast paced eight weeks writing course, I have learned an endless amount of information that would benefit me throughout my entire life. First, I have learned that in order to produce a well written paper, I most first find a topic that I am passionate about. Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.

Growing up, I remember my mom would always take me to the library and teach me how to read. My parents always encouraged me to read and write, which is why I never had a problem in writing papers. Professor Alvarez taught me the process in writing a research paper, narrative paper and a reflective essay. In English 908 one could learn the steps of writing a clear focus thesis statement, a formal outline and what it takes to brainstorm.
