My Tutoring Experience

I enter the house of the 8th grade student that I am tutoring in mathematics. Her name was Keira. She sat there with her head tucked under her arms, crying because she failed her exam on creating the equation for a circle. She was embarrassed and discouraged. She did not understand how it was possible. She studied for seven hours and the day of the test she just blanked. I look at her and I tell her to cheer up. Suffering from test anxiety myself, I knew that some people struggled with exams. I told her that if she gave me the chance, I would make sure that by her next test she would do better. She agreed and our journey began. When tutoring her I worked on more than just studying for math exams. Together we went over methods of how to improve ours test taking strategies. Doing things like meditation sessions, and brain games to get her brain flowing, I witnessed her grow into a stronger test taker day by day. She became more comfortable with taking test within a short amount of time that I was actually shocked at the results. The day had came and it was time for her to take her test. I began tutoring four students a week in the core subjects of math, science, and history. This allowed me to broaden my communications skills as well as help others succeed. Becoming an efficient problem solver, helped me develop my own personal character, as I became less reluctant to helping others and more inclined with my peers. For the first time in my life, I was having meaningful interactions with people and watching the positive results of those interactions unfold before my eyes. Tutoring also gave me insight into a greater understanding of empathy and learning how to understand different mindsets rather than quickly judging. Furthermore tutoring taught me that individuals in the world can all have common struggles. Tutoring was my vehicle to a new world of knowledge and
