Strengths are defined as a pre-existing capacity for a particular way of behaving, thinking or feeling that is authentic and energizing to the user, and enables optimal functioning, development, and performance. Growing up I began to notice some of the strength I possess and how they fall under certain themes. My main strengths consist of restorative, achiever, learner, responsibility, and individualization. However, every strength has a shadow side, or a negative effect, when used to the extreme. Finding a balance in my strengths and learning to use them in combination is a major key in being successful not only at HBU but in life. However, in order to do that I must use my strengths in combination to get the most out of them. Since the traits of achiever revolve around staying busy and being on top of things I can use that to complete more work at a faster pace. Also, since I have responsibility as a strength that will make me feel more inclined to turn in my assignments on time seeing them as something I promised the professor I’ll accomplish. Those strengths will help me stay ahead in my classes, but in case I ever fall behind I would be able to get out of that slump and catch back up. Under those circumstances, I’ll be able to put my restorative skills to the test by finding a solution as to how I can get caught up in my studies, and discovering the root of the problem. Also if needed, due to my strength individualization, I could set up a study group by picking people based on their unique abilities and use them to make the groups studying more effective. Coupled with being a learner, I would study more intensely in order for me to learn more and improve in any subject I’m struggling
Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
After reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath, I learned that there are thirty four different themes that one could have as strengths. Each strength has its own positive that allow people to better work with the people who have this style of strengths. Another key topic that I learned is that everyone has their own types of personal strengths. The main principle that was taken away from reading this book was that the old phrase of “You can be anything you want to be” is not a true statement (p. 6). We are all taught this idea at a very young age and it tends to stick with us for the rest of our lives. Forced by the past, most people are required to try to fix their weaknesses, but not improve on our strengths. We cannot truly be anything we want to be because we are not built this way. We are programmed to tend to stick with things that we are good at and when thrown at a task similar to the one we are good at we do not just excel at the other task. By sticking to increasing our strengths that we already have instead of fixing our weaknesses, we will be able to become a better human being because we are better the things in which we are good at.

According to author Tom Rath, the key to success is to be able to support your strengths while in the workplace and not focus so much on trying to fix your weaknesses. Strengths Finder 2.0 is assessment that argues the answer to human development is structured on what people are. After completing strength finders 2.0 online assessment you will be presented with your strengths discovery and planner guide which are formed off of your results. I myself have participated in the strength finders 2.0 assessment. The test itself was a bit entertaining because I was asked questions that I never really thought about. Mt five themes that were listed in my results was relator, focus, belief, harmony, and discipline.
After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
To be a successful teacher one must first understand their own personal classroom management strengths and build from those attributes. Equally important are those areas of concern that could benefit from professional development or active conscious practice. As a future educator I have been exposed to many management styles and strategies throughout the course of the semester in the Creating Positive Learning Environments classroom as a result I can better understand my own personal managerial strengths and areas that also raise concern.
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Using our natural talents can help us do the best we can and help us be a better asset. For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. I must use my strengths to my advantage, to be more effective academically and in the workplace, but I also need to identify and try to overcome my weaknesses, especially professionally.
After taking the Gallup Strength test and having conversations with other people with different strength, I realized how my strengths helped me build my identity. My strengths are Restorative, Responsibility, Strategic, Belief, and Deliberative. These strengths awaken my spiritual eyes to understand what God has created me to be. The Restorative strength focuses on solving problems, the Responsibility strength focuses on taking ownership for successes and failures. The Strategic strength focuses on identifying the true route of a problem. The Belief strength focuses on unchangeable core values. Strengths are gifts that we have that we us to our benefit, but we must use them in a holistic, Bible-based, and asset-based view. Strengths on the other hand are what we use to help define our unique design. Strengths are what we rely on primarily, such as if we are good at intellectual, we will primarily use those strengths instead of using emotional or physical strengths because we do not have a good measure on them. Writing about my personal strengths is a challenging task that requires me to focus on the strong points that make up my character. However, to attack my weaknesses, is to challenge myself to take control over the areas that need some redefining of certain skills to make greatest success in life. My life is not defined by weaknesses, but more so the makeup of my personal strengths.
