One of my strengths that I have as a writer is I like telling story so I always come up with a story because when I write I always have a planned story in my mind and I just put it down words on paper. Also before write I plan what I am going to write. This way of writing is very effective because usually I gather research and write down the important points and my own explanations. In fall quarter, I had a research paper instead of a midterm exam. My strengths as a writer helped me very much in my research paper and I got A grade in that
In my past writing assignments it seemed to be that we were learning everything step by step, where as in college more is expected from me as a writer. As a high school student it was quite easy to push everything off till the last moment. Those two o'clock nights were very frequent when a six-page research paper was due the next day. As a college student the requirements are more challenging and not something that can be pushed back till the very last second. It seems strange to me that starting earlier for a college paper and working twice as hard on it, receiving a lower grade on it than I would have in high school is upsetting to think about, but is so true. When coming into the semester I was unaware of what was expected from me, but as the semester progressed I was able to get a better understanding of the course and how to look critically at myself as a writer. I know that these are qualities that I will use for many years to come.
I have never liked writing; I always thought it was a waste of time. It was a great therapy but I never found academic writing to be useful just tedious. Only ever writing when I had too made it harder for my writing skills to grow or improve in any way. I have not taken an English class since the 10th grade, even then I never gave it much effort, just doing what I had to so I could pass the class. Then I jump in to College English 1010, I feel like I do well in all other subjects but this one. English is my worst nightmare.
Over the course of the second semester of my freshman campaign at Seton Hall my overall skills as a writer have been improved and more refined. The biggest difference I saw in my work since I arrived here was the maturity of my writing and the improved research and analysis skills that I first developed in high school. But as I look back on my work and myself as a writer I believe that the areas where I have grown the most is my creativity and my ability to use that creative thinking to formulate a unique thesis statement about a characters involvement in a story. I realized my creativity as a writer during the assignment where we had to choose a song and poem that shared the same “image” and then write about that image. I chose the song “100 Years” by Five for Fighting and the poem “What Happened to the Happy Days?” by Angie Flores. The image that they created was “of a person sitting and thinking back on how fast life has gone by. A daydream about going back to a time where everything was simple and there was nothing to truly worry about, a time where life was how life should be,” (Leach). I creatively thought about how these 2 lyrical pieces connected as well as their differences. I realized that the two pieces portrayed that image but in opposite ways, which is something I wouldn’t have initially realized if I didn’t spend time trying to find a unique connection of image between the two pieces. Through spending time trying to uniquely and creatively find ways to write about things I was able to complete a prompt that I thought was one of the most challenging I’ve ever had to write about. My task for the Othello research paper was to write about and show how Desdemona’s story and role in other character’s stories was the most p...
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
Strengths I have in writing include the ability to grasp the attention of a reader, express my point of view, support my opinion with sources, and making the work flow. These strengths should be important for a writer to have because without these strategies the work will not survive in the ‘world’ of literature.
I believe that as a writer I’ve always been a free writer, in the sense that I love writing without thinking about the ramifications of grammar and spelling. Although free writing is fun, I believe it is my strength because I can most likely write about a subject for multiple pages without any research by just using my own thoughts and opinions. Consequently, this type of writing has also been my downfall in essays and other writing assignments because of the mandatory rules that I fail to remember. In writing assignments, since I normally write off of what comes to mind my writing seems to carry many vague generalizations due to the lack of research that I do on the subject. When it comes to grammar I feel that it is easy for me to get
My strengths as a writer are that my papers are very well developed, they have always been graded and ranged from a high B to an A. I always meet the requirement, but I don't add as much detail as I should. I have a good style and organization. I always make sure to keep my papers in order. All of my papers have spelling errors but is not bad enough for the reader to get confused while reading. Readers can easily follow my papers with no struggles. I use a variety of simple and complex sentences to structure my papers. I do get quite a few comma splices, but never to many run-on sentences or fragments in my paper. My papers do have a good word choice that include imagery and figurative language. I don't use super strong verbs in my papers and I also have grammatical errors in my papers as well.
My greatest strength in writing is the rate in which I am able to produce written work and give my readers a glimpse of who I am. After various writing experiences, it has come to my attention that I can write very effectively and quickly as long as I have knowledge about the subject in question. I am very good with introductions and grabbing the readers or listeners attention. This is a very useful skill for the various speeches, essays and reflections I am expected to generate this semester. Another one of my strengths as a writer is my ability to comprehend the prompts I am assigned and answering it correctly. I think I am good at this because I actually take time to really think about what the prompt is asking of me. Some may say that I am just an over thinker, but that is the only way I can be certain to formulate an efficient essay/paper. I am aware of these two strengths because I have received numerous feedback from my peers and
Both tactics were actually very therapeutic for me. Identifying my strengths allowed me to focus on things that made me feel good about myself and translate them into good feelings about my writing. For example, I like to write to explain procedures. I have strong opinions and am able to put those opinions in writing. I am a good listener.
In writing, my personal strength is using figurative language. Using figurative language such as metaphors and similes are specifically where I strive the most. They come to me as easily as breathing air. Another strength of mine is I have a satisfying choice of words. I’ve ways been told this by my family and peers when simply talking and it’s more noticeable in my writing.
The student demonstrates many strengths as a writer in both, his journal entry and benchmark writing sample. He also shows a few areas that need work. After reviewing his work, his stars and wishes have become clear, stars being strengths and wishes being areas that need work.
Throughout high school writing papers and essays were very difficult for me, almost every assignment I would seek help from others. Whether it was from my fellow students, family members, or teachers, their advice helped me tremendously. My senior year I took a Creative Writing course, which I believe helped me a lot, because I would struggle to write a paragraph, but now I can put a paper together. Coming into college I knew writing was a major skill to conquer, but I still feel like I can improve a lot yet. Furthermore, my critical reading skills need much improvement, I have no problem reading a passage or book; however, I do have trouble with comprehending what I read. Therefore, it’s difficult for me to write about something that is unclear
There are many things I do well. I tend to learn fast, can apply knowledge in practical ways, and am willing to keep trying until I succeed. I hope all of these skills will help me learn the mechanics of writing a proper research paper worthy of receiving an acceptable grade. This is a learning process so I am trying to remind myself to keep my
Strengths are defined as a pre-existing capacity for a particular way of behaving, thinking or feeling that is authentic and energizing to the user, and enables optimal functioning, development, and performance. Growing up I began to notice some of the strength I possess and how they fall under certain themes. My main strengths consist of restorative, achiever, learner, responsibility, and individualization. However, every strength has a shadow side, or a negative effect, when used to the extreme. Finding a balance in my strengths and learning to use them in combination is a major key in being successful not only at HBU but in life.
What would you say was your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent overtime? This has always been a sore subject for me, for the longest time I beat myself up because I couldn’t find anything that I was slightly better at than my peers. I would try new things on occasion to try and discover what I was good at. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I was as average as they came, I wasn’t exceptional at anything I did, and this was a devastating blow to my fourteen-year-old self. A few years ago I developed an interest in reading, mostly fictional books, but a new interest nonetheless. I started checking out books from my high school’s library, every single day and eventually I realized that I read
