1. How does this information help you better understand your unique talents? This information allows me to better understand my unique talents because it shows me what kind of a person I am. I now understand that I am a person that needs balance in life and that I like predictability. I have realized that I am a fixer and that I like to problem-solve. I think that I understand myself better and I can look back on my life and understand why I have a few very close friends and why I have made decisions a certain way before. 2. How can you use this understanding to add value to your role? I can definitely use this understanding because now I know the reasons behind why I make certain decisions and I can use my strengths to solve a problem within a group setting or a personal problem. I think adding value to my role in a group or society will be helped through my strength of being able to treat everyone equally and not give out favoritism through being a relater. I think that also being an activator will also be helpful in solving problems with friends, family, or colleagues. 3. How can you apply this knowledge to add value to your team or work group? I can add this knowledge to my sports team by understanding that by being an activator, I can help direct the team towards a common goal and help others work on problems that need to be solved. By liking consistency and being disciplined, I am able to focus on not only getting better myself, but also helping my team become stronger. I can also help my team through my “relater” quality by understanding everyone on a better level and helping them become mentally tougher. I think by having a tougher skin and being disciplined will help our team not only on the court but also in life. 4. How will this understanding help you add value to your organization or group? I think that knowing and acknowledging my strengths will help add value to my organization because I now know where I will be helpful and how I can actually use my strengths to help. I think that knowing my strengths will help me work to my fullest potential and possibly begin to like group projects.
Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
Leading organizations of school administrators offer educators various opportunities to encourage educators to become leaders. No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) has mandated that leaders be better prepared for the task of providing quality education to all. NCLB “… is forcing all educational stakeholders to face the weakness of contemporary school leadership and is making it impossible to ignore the need for higher quality principals” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.1). It is believed that all educators can be and are leaders in their own right. A leader is a visionary and has the ability to inspire others to aspire to greatness. Of the numerous opportunities that are offered, those that are most beneficial include but are not limited to leadership training programs, professional development, and creating shared leadership opportunities for teachers to become leaders. The systems “…that produce our nation’s principals are complex and interrelated – and governed by the states. Each state establishes licensing, certification and re-certification” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.1). States use the ISLLC standards “…as the framework for preparation programs and in service professional development of school superintendents, principals, and other leaders” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.3).
I am pleased to acknowledge and affirm these strengths. I hope to never let these become obstacles to anything I am trying to attain. I find that it is always good to be aware of who you truly are and I plan to use this newly discovered knowledge to the best of my ability.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. By knowing that things do not always work out as planned has helped me change the tactics of how I perform my tasks. I do not always expect to have a smooth flow of opportunities or accomplish goals, but
These strengths have allows for me to flourish in school and the activities I participate in. Along side these strengths are my weaknesses that have allowed me to encounter some learning opportunities. Ive gained knowledge from these weaknesses. One of the greatest strengths I bring to the field practicum is optimism. In the helping profession I believe hope/positivity is very important because it affects how I see problems, how I solve problems, how I help my clients, and how I make decisions. Secondly, self-awareness would be another strength I have to offer. I am constantly doing self-evaluations of my heart, motives, biases, and good/bad habits. This allows me to continue to improve myself as an individual and as an employee. My greatest limitation would be fear of failure. I have this burning desire to help individuals, families, and communities, but in doing that I do not want to fail them. My desire of wanting to provide clients with the best and seeing them succeed is a strength
For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses. One of the topics in organizational development today is leadership. Leadership is what individuals do to mobilize other people in organizations and communities. According to Kouzes & Posner, there are five practices and ten commitments of exemplary leadership. The five practices of exemplary leadership include: Model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart. In the Leadership Challenge, Kouzes and Posner found similar patterns and actions of leadership that created the essentials to achieve success. Utilizing the research conducted by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, I have created a leadership plan that would apply to the Admission Department at Texas Wesleyan University.
Leadership is essentially the ability to motivate. An effective leader can motivate others toward reaching a common goal. Leaders are different than managers in that leaders inspire others to do the work needed while managers generally tend to manage the tasks associated with completing the goal.
My flexibility is certainly one of my greatest strengths. I can easily move between different working styles, depending on the scenario. I have no problem trying a new idea or concept out before deciding on a final direction. I am continually exploring different options. Being a “people-person” is one of my other strengths. My excellent interpersonal skills allow for me to bring ideas, thoughts and people together. I generate enthusiasm and excitement into tasks. I feel comfortable and confident talking to others about anything that I have knowledge of.
Part I. Strengths Personal Profile System Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process, whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details.
Participating in team sports is important not just for health reasons, but also for your healthy intellects and emotions. Playing sports that is in range of the player’s interest helps relieve stress and maintain their mental health. A team is mostly about unity within the team and with the coach, so no one can be selfish. Therefore playing in team sports develops good characteristics within oneself. Being part of a team sport should help create the opportunity to gain meaningful insight into one's leadership, social and cognitive development. Team sports helps build good character because they teach athletes discipline and how to have good sportsmanship. This also has an effect on my relationships at work. For example, knowing right from wrong when faced with an ethical situation at work. All of these elements play a part in my personality and behavior at work. It makes me want to be a successful
