Throughout high school, you are told to express yourself. To not be shy and to do as much as possible within the given four years to try to start shaping your future ahead of time so you won’t be behind. Some people choose to dance their way through high school, participating in talent shows and class battles, while others choose to join clubs to go around helping their local community with their beloved friends. For me, I chose to do a sport along with the other 55% of the students at school. Doing an extracurricular proves that you are not only academically oriented but it’s demonstrates that you are able to balance out your time and your life in ways other students can’t or choose not to. Putting yourself out there and out of your comfort zone are just a couple more reasons to establish the fact that you are indeed different and worthy for whatever college you want to apply for or for whatever reason it may …show more content…
Taking only one AP class, it caused me to sleep at midnight because I did not plan my schedule ahead of time and I was being foolish, acting as if I can just cruise my way through the year like I did during freshman year. Expectations increased to the point where no more late work would be accepted and I’d get detention or my grade would drop lower than the deepest pit in the world. In the sport that I participated in, I had to prove myself worthy in order to be given a position within the team while new incoming freshman's not only looked up to the upperclassmen, but to those just a year above them as well. I had to set an image of myself where I too would be respected by all classes, teachers, and coaches while staying true to who I really am. Sophomore year was undeniably a major test to see how I would do. Maintaining a good GPA was surely and still is torture because keeping up with school and doing well in a sports is probably my one way ticket to my dream
A question that every high school student is faced with is: “What extracurricular activities so you participate in?” Some can answer confidently while others are slapped with a moment of sudden realization. These people are just floating along with the crowd, with no driving force or motivation. What I believe differentiates me from my peers and gives me a sense of uniqueness, is what I do outside of my academia. Out of the deluge of activities that are available, Latinos In Action is the one that I feel the most passionate about and shapes my persona the most.
"To be successful, you must accept all challenges that come your way. You can't just accept the ones you like" Mike Gafka. Gafka’s quote summarizes my Junior year as I had to grew accustom to many difficulties, face many challenges, and struggles such as time management as well as how I decided to take three Ap classes during my Junior year. Which were Ap US History, Physics, and English not to mention having a Math 140 zero period class and a Network+ computer course outside of school which made me have a busy schedule. Nevertheless I learned and gain a lot of new knowledge throughout my Junior year.
As a young lady graduating from The Dalles Whatonka High School I think it’s important to be involved in as many activity’s as possible. Throughout my high school years I have been involved in many school activities and comities such as student government. I have always had an interest in athletics and played sports. These leadership and athletic roles have tough me skills that will last me a lifetime.
It challenged me more than usual. Even though I love math, my teacher challenged me to be better at it. But while I was in a specialized high school in DC, I thought everything would be very easy. It became more difficult because it felt like I was behind in the learning process. But managing my positions and school was very hard. I tend to take sports more seriously than academics. Once I transferred schools, it became more difficult because it felt like I was behind in the learning process. By the end of my sophomore year, I was learning that my GPA is very big. I admit. I messed up but now that I know, I do not play around and I take my work very seriously. I found this through my teachers and guidance
Most popular kids engage in a school sport which makes them well known and liked throughout their social atmosphere, not only by their peers, but by their teachers as well. Many outcast do not engage in these acts of physical teams like sports, but rather in other institutions such as a culture, theater, and various academic clubs. These tend to be labeled “uncool” and separate these kids from other students. Their “abnormal” interests, that vary from the conventional athletics, can make them looked down upon and questioned by others. Having these preferable extracurricular activities is normal, yet these kids tend to be misunderstood by the jocks who don’t have a particular preference to these clubs. Based on the same survey from stageoflife.com, interests are the second leading cause of teens feeling inferior to their peers at 49% (stageoflife.com). Also, “63% of teens say that their appearance is an important factor in their identity” (stageoflife.com). Kids feel that their ability in activities causes them to subordinate to others. Teens are often judged for these interests which should not happen since their enjoyments are irrelevant to popularity
Extracurricular involvement through one's school, is a key and crucial factor in succeeding, while growing and developing during the early stages of a student's life. I am an actively involved and motivated student, for I participate in numerous school activities while consistently undertaking superb grades. Throughout my past two years in middle school, I have prospered in the following activities: Newspaper club, Cross Country, Track, Academic Olympics, the Ocean County Math League, Chorus, National Junior Honor Society, and finally, Student Council. In the duration of these activities, I have flourished and excelled greatly.
One of the biggest struggles in my junior year was my AP US History class. The workload in that class, combined with the rigorous schedule of other AP and IB courses, plus sports, and the occasional meetings of the debate team made it a real challenge to follow my passion.
Therefore, there is a bigger benefit to joining extra curricular activities (especially that there is time and assistance in academics for those who may need it and not receive it at home) and enjoining time into learning new things and exploring the world and it’s opportunities rather than going home after school and needing extra help with homework and not having someone to assist you, or even being bored and tired of playing video games and sleeping all
Extra-curricular activities are found in all levels of our schools in many different forms. They can be sports, clubs, debate, drama, school publications, student council, and other social events. A student’s future can be determined in the things that they do in the hours after school and before their parents get home. Through the dedication of athletes/artists and coaches, all athletes/artists will effectively communicate so we can successfully complete our vision. In order to achieve this, coaches and athletes/artists will share their passion for their activity. If every athlete/artist recruits at least one individual into their activity, the vision is attainable.
In my time at Haddonfield Memorial High School I have choose to take some of the hardest classes and pack the most into each year. With six to seven classes and very few study halls or electives, my days are filled with academically challenging class after class. I always come home in the spring after picking schedules with the excitement that I have picked the hardest classes and have one of the most rigorous schedules. For some this may seem daunting, and at times it can be, but I also love learning, and because I have taken every class I can and pushed my self there are so many interesting things I would have never learned if I haven't done that.
One of the biggest parts of surviving high school is to get involved in clubs and sports. In most schools there are many clubs and sports to choose from. Some clubs include, volunteer club, glee club, medical careers club, restaurant club and many more. Some sports include, cross-country, soccer, basketball, and track. Right now the clubs that I participate in are the glee
What does public service mean? I used to think that it meant working for the government. To think beyond that narrow scope was not something that I have ever considered until Public Administration 100. “Public Service jobs are available in multiple parts of the U.S. economy: the public sector, the nonprofit sector, even the private sector. ”(Krasna, 2010, p. 26)
Do extra-curricular activities have a positive or negative effect on a student’s academic performance? If they do, then why do schools take activities away from students at the first sign of academic troubles? If they are scientifically proven to be positive, then why are they not curricular rather than extra curricular? There are numerous influences that impact the academic performance of a student other than after school activities. However, this study will focus on the effect of extra curricular activities on academic performances. In many cases, participation in extra curricular activities positively influences attendance and connection to school. This study will investigate the impact of extra curricular activities that require a daily commitment over an extended period of time, greater than a month. Athletics is the dominant after school activity that requires a daily commitment; therefore, this study will involve student athletes as well as students who are involved in other extra curricular activities. Another reason why student athletes will be a large part of this study is that there may be a correlation between the skills necessary to succeed in athletics and academics (American Sports Institute, 1991).
Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should begin to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
During high school I participated in dance team, football and basketball cheerleading, marching band, color guard, concert band, jazz band, pep band, choir, select choir, drama, Resistance Skills Leaders, National Honor Society, GSA, Skills, Big Buddy, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and speech. I always had something to do, and I enjoyed staying busy. Participating helped me find a place in school. In big school participating gives you a new group of friends. Perry is not very big, so everyone that I was on a team with, I already knew. Doing all of the extra curricular activities that I did, really helped me develop strong emotional bonds with many people that I knew. It taught me to encourage others and that positive reinforcement will always work better than punishments. It showed me that being a leader isn’t about because the person with all of the ideas or the most vocal person, but being the person that inspires others to be creative and help share their thoughts and to lead them in the right direction.
