Have you ever wanted to create your own web site but were afraid to try it on your own? Creating a website can be a great way to share that special idea, your own personal thoughts, or perhaps advance your career or business. If you have never created a website before, it can seem quite intimidating. However, creating your own web page is a simple task when you properly plan, execute, and manage your goals into a marketable idea. It is important to realize that although this process can be simple, there is plenty of work and research involved. The first thing I always recommended to my clients is to research similar pages. When looking at other pages, you can get a great idea of the visual route you want to go. Once you get an idea of the correct style to attract the attention you desire, you can choose the theme or purpose of the site. Are you selling items and need an e-commerce site? Will you be sharing audio or visual media? Once you decide on your theme, you can start to lay the groundwork for the structure of your web site. I have always found that creating the site on paper first, is a great way to see the flow of your pages. This will allow you to correct any possible issues before you get too far into the design phase. With the many types of modern technology available today, you need to keep in mind the different platforms (i.e. web, mobile, tablets) and browsers (i.e. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox) that your site can be viewed over. As soon as you define the goal of your site, you can begin to execute your plans. The first step in this process is to find someone to host your site. You can also make the choice to host the site yourself however, home servers can be time-consuming and at times more ... ... middle of paper ... ...s of advertising. Search Engines are also a very effective means of getting your site out to users. All search engines offer advertising and key word optimization, use these to your advantage to pull users to your site. In your final analysis of the site, it is important to remember that all web sites are a work in progress. Websites are never “under construction”; they are living breathing documents that require constant attention. Taking on a site as webmaster is a great responsibility that requires a decent amount of time. Web sites can be anywhere between a simple blog or a complex e-commerce site, but they all require the same maintenance and marketing strategies to make them popular. Managing a site can be a tedious, never-ending process, but if you plan, execute, and manage your idea successfully, you will reap the benefits of all your hard work.
