Finalizing your target audience is the first step a start up should consider before getting on with the business. One of the biggest mistakes that budding startups today make is trying to appeal and get attention from every sector, which is absolutely wrong. In the business arena, we don’t cater to one and all. It’s all about hitting at your aim correctly. With that budding definition in mind, we just narrow down to basically two questions.
Who will buy this product?
Where do you want to sell this product?
These two questions define our whole game for finalizing our target audience.
The following steps shall focus on how you can narrow down the audience for your target group.
Decide on the market you want to sell your brand/product
Every product that is launched in the market has its audience fixed. For example, a biscuit ad caters to the kids and family public. A business company or a CEO won’t be targeted for that purpose. Thus, on a similar note every product has a target market for it to sell. One and all are not meant to consume that product.

The first step is to (1) determine which kinds of customers exist, then (2) select which ones we are best off trying to serve and, finally, (3) implement our segmentation by optimizing our products/services for that segment and communicating that we have made the choice to distinguish ourselves that way (Consumer Psychologist, n.d.). •
Every company and/or organization starts and operates to achieve a single major goal, which is normally included in the company’s mission statement. Setting a goal, however, does not translate into success on its own; it is only the fist step. Understanding market segmentation is the second most important aspect of doing business. “Sellers and advertisers want to be able to determine what the potential market is for their product or service, as well as the best ways to reach potential consumers” (Terrell, 2013). Once a goal is set, an organization first must decide if it wants to operate locally, regionally, nationally, and/or internationally, as the size of the geographic coverage has a large influence on demographic coverage. It is crucial for a business to understand what it is meant by demographic coverage; it is to understand people’s age, gender, culture, social norms and beliefs, and income in a given geographical size (Grewal & Levy, 2010). Let’s take a high class and luxury bar as an example to explain the importance of these key factors. If the bar is located in an area where the average age is 60, it will be safe to assume that the business will have difficulties finding many customers. Similarly, the business will not be able to survive if it is located in an area that has a lot of Mormon or Muslim residents as drinking alcoholic beverages is prohibited by these religious practices. On the other hand, if the said bar is located in an area such as San Francisco where the average age is around 38 years old, the median income is ~$70,000, and the culture is a melting pot of many races with many beliefs and behaviors, it will most likely thrive to its full potential (city-data.com, 201...
Caroline and Jennifer said that ‘Market segmentation is a crucial marketing strategy. Its aim is to identify and delineate market segments or set of buyers which would then become targets for the company’s marketing plans.’ (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) There are many ways to segment the market, such as age, region, environment, psychology and wages (Hall, Jones and Raffo, 2010).
Know your market and competitors before starting your business. Effective research and strategic planning are often what separate the winners from the losers.
When a business aims to be as successful as possible in selling its products and services, it must examine in detail whether or not the products will be attractive and necessary; if the price is optimal; if the product is being distributed in the best locations; and finally, how interest and awareness can be created for the products. In order for a business to target all of these elements at the right people at the right time, it must employ the right type of marketing mix: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
Most products advertise to ordinary consumers decrease the individuality because the merchants can always lead people to purchase their goods, but people do not actually choose the product by themselves. We live in a free country and it seems
The characteristics of the audience that I must consider when addressing the audience are the primary stakeholders. They are employees, managers, and owners. They are individuals who will be affected by an endeavor and can influence it, but they are directly involved with doing the work and engaging in economic transactions with the business. They are individuals who beliefs are opinions held by people; their values are views of their sense of right or wrong. Their attitudes are predispositions to behavior such as inclination to agree or disagree; approve or disapprove. Their behaviors are actions taken that are not always consistent with beliefs, values and attitudes.

In conclusion to this, I think that marketers do not have the ability to control the consumers need through the process of efficient marketing methods. However, the marketers can successfully market products by taking the process of demographics and psychographics into consideration, while this will profitably market their products to the intended consumers hence increase in the demand or need.
Marketing involves activities to find right people for the business and then gaining their attention and retaining them for life. There are many theories marketers employed to stand their business out of crowd or at least make it visible. To make any business efficiency and effective, it is important to seek the target customer market. There are primarily three main areas to consider while identifying the target market. Those are as follows;
Once a business has successfully completed segmentation based on the market into various groups the targets will be chosen. As we all know no one unique strategy will be able to appeal to all consumer segments therefore being able to come up with different strategies for specific targets are a vital aspect of marketing.
In the case of Nike footwear they have segmented into the following groups: Running shoes, Soccer, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Skateboarding, men’s training and women’s training. Nike footwear has a lot of target markets but their main target market is athletes and fitness professionals. The second target market are people who train, work out and play sports as hobbies or who are semi-professional. Nike also targets the fashionable people. Nike footwear is has further segmented their market according to the people that endorse the products. For example: Jordan, Kobe, Lebron and Durant to name a few. The footwear segment has also been segmented on the bases of brands like Jordan and Converse. (Nike website). According to Svezia Nike will continue to use “premium channels of distribution to family and value channels, it will continue to segment and take market share wherever it presents itself.” (Canadian
Nevertheless, one of the most important constants among all of us, regardless of our differences, is that, above all, we are buyers. We use or consume on a regular basis food, clothing, shelter, transportation, education, equipment, vacations, necessities, luxuries, services, and even ideas. As consumers, we play an essential role in the health of the economy; local, national and international. The purchase decision we make affect the requirement for basic raw materials, for transportation, for production, for banking; they affect the employment of employees and the growth of resources, the successfulness of some industries and the failure of others. In order to be successful in any business and specifically in today’s dynamic and rapidly evolving marketplace, marketers need to know everything they can about consumers; what they are want, what they are think, how they are work, how they are spend their leisure time. They have to find out the personal and group influences that affect consumer decisions and how these decisions are made. In these days of ever-widening media choices, they need to not only identify their target audiences, but they have to know where and how to reach
Every “true” entrepreneur knows that there will be never enough time or money to make things right when starting a new business. So it’s vital to focus on the most important thing, which is the customer. To understand the importance of knowing customers, imagine an entrepreneur with a flawless and innovative product but doesn’t have enough customers to sustain the business and the opposite is true. For entrepreneurs to be customer-focused they need to understand customers needs rather than focusing on great products or wonderful services. This is what I did on my final project; the idea behind my business is to offer customers who live in a very hot area of the world cold treats but in a different and new way. This point is should be clarified in the “customers” slide in the pitch to show that the owner knows who are the customers and the show why they might be interested in the product or the service the owner is planning to
