5. Analyses 5.1Market Segmentation Caroline and Jennifer said that ‘Market segmentation is a crucial marketing strategy. Its aim is to identify and delineate market segments or set of buyers which would then become targets for the company’s marketing plans.’ (Tynan and Drayton, 1987) There are many ways to segment the market, such as age, region, environment, psychology and wages (Hall, Jones and Raffo, 2010). Because it is a music event which includes camping, so the attendees must be able to be free for less than three days. As the objective says, the attendees should better be young people so that this event could spread young culture. People who are young also will have the passion to attend music events. As the price of Glastonbury Festival is very high which could be hundreds of ponds for just three days, so the market segmentation should be people with high wage or students whose parents have high wages. To sum up, the market segmentation should be young people who have high wage or their parents have high wages, love to attend music events and may accept the way of camping for days. 5.2 Environmental Analysis 5.2.1 SWOT Analysis The SWOT analysis form is showed as Appendix 2. From SWOT Analysis, the strength, weakness, opportunity and threats will be defined very clearly. The strength is very obvious; it is already a very big event so that it does not need to do a lot of promotions and it is becoming more popular. People, local company and the local government will support this event because it will bring a huge amount of tourism so that the local economy will increase as well. The weakness is also very clear. As there will be 177,500 attendees during the event, there will be a lot of garbage created and need to be colle... ... middle of paper ... ...Pringle, S. A. (2013). Segmentation variables can be classified into four major classes; geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioural. The use of these categories either individually or in combination assists companies to identify and establish market segments which is relevant to the product or service they are offering. This in turn helps these organisations to evaluate the relevant segments to choose the pertinent target market.
In the summer of 1969, a music festival called, “Woodstock”, took place for three straight days in Upstate, New York, with thirty-two musical acts playing, and 500,000 people from around the world coming to join this musical, peaceful movement. Woodstock started out being a small concert, created to locally promote peace in the world, by the power of music and its lyrics. Now, Woodstock is still being celebrated over 40 years later. The chaotic political climate that the ‘baby boomers’ were growing up in is most likely the reason for this event becoming of such an importance to the world. The violence of the Vietnam War, protests at Kent State and the Democratic Convention, and the assassinations contributed to an ‘out of control’ world. The fact that so many people came to Woodstock and were able to latch onto the ideals of peace, love, and community became a wonderful, joyous symbol to this generation. This three day music festival represented the ideal for baby boomers during a chaotic political time.

The Seaside Music Festival is only in its third year, but already they have made great strides as far as getting the boardwalk community behind them. Continuity between businesses and city teamwork were evident this weekend thanks to festival co-producer Mike Schwartz. Fellow co-promoters Ryan Sharkey and Jose Anteo were also prepared with interns and section teams out in force to keep things moving. This year’s festival also had many loyal return participants such as The Aztec Motel and Sandbar, The Beach Bar, El Camino and Jack and Bills down the boardwalk as well as several others. Without these stalwarts there would be no festival, it’s a combination of geographic locations, logistics and a community that remains open to new things.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has a website that announces its programs. Anyone can easily find and choose a concert. I chose a concert for Sunday July 25, 2010. This concert was emerging artists from Ipalpiti Festibal 2010. It included the four pieces of music that are described below. One of these was Fantasiestucke, Opus 88, both Romanze and Duet were preformed. This concerto was performed by pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Vladimir Dyo, and cellist Yves Dharamraj. The second piece was Ahnung, a new discovery piece from Kinderszenen. This piece was U.S. Premiere, played solo by the pianist Luiza Borac. The third piece was Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Opus 47. This piece was an Andante cantabile piece. This concerto was performed by pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Conrad Chow and Adelya Shagidullina, and Cellist Kian Soltani. The last piece was Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Opus 44. What I discovered about my own musical understanding by attending this concert is the following thing. I know how to appreciate and to enjoy music that is a little bit familiar, but my understanding stops when a very new type of music is performed. I made a conclusion from this experience. My conclusion is that learning about music will increase the pleasure of listening to music, but that musical learning is not, perhaps, as easy as learning subjects like Math or History.
At a time of social reflection, with America reacting to war in Southeast Asia, the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy (1963), his brother Senator Robert F. Kennedy (1968), and Martin Luther King Jr.(1968), the Apollo landing on the moon, and a culture of public demonstration, through Woodstock, the country was asked to question its attitudes toward drugs, sex, and the establishment. Was Woodstock simply a music festival or a sign of growing dissatisfaction with government and its policies? Even though the Woodstock festival was defined as three days of peace, love, and music, its effects upon American society could be felt for generations, influencing a nation’s attitudes and becoming a symbol of an age of change.
Some could say dance events are just as fun sober as they are on something. Some could say substances enhance an individual’s festival experience. Either of these opinions could be right, but what remains a fact is that substances are indeed, in one way or another, deeply involved with music. It is not because of the music itself, however influential it may seem, but rather the choice of fans that has caused this. Everyone wants to have a great experience at a music festival. If they are offered a greater experience, then of course they will be open-minded. Although substances may be an experience for some, they may be the divider between life and death for others. From alcohol poisoning at Toby Keith shows and meth use at Metallica concerts, substance abuse has proven to be something widespread and dangerous throughout music festivals (Baca, par. 8). Society can make substances a taboo, say ...
In 1970 a two-hundred and thirty minute documentary was released entitled "Woodstock." This documentary has set the standard for other documentaries to come. This documentary covers a three day festival that was held in August of 1969. The festival symbolized the ideas of the late 1960’s in terms of music, politics, and society in general. The documentary depicted the event as a major love and drug fest.
Most people grow up attending concerts located in arenas with reserved seating and a snack vendor that caters to their needs every ten minutes. Then there are others who prefer going to music festivals, such as Summerfest and Country Thunder, where their motives lie in catching up with friends rather than enjoying to the live music itself. Before attending Lollapalooza in the summer of 2016, I had envisioned my experience to resemble that of the latter, relaxing amongst my best friends while listening to my favorite bands. Growing up, I had always dreamt of attending Lollapalooza, a hip music festival located in the center of downtown Chicago with hundreds of musicians playing throughout the three day event. It is an outdoor festival where
Lussier and Kimball (2013, p. 443) note that special attention should be paid to ethical behaviour, safety, environment and communication of the event. For instance, every service and action should observe high ethical standards, there should be ample security for all participants, there should be stringent measures to safeguard the environment (a waste control system), and all the attendees should be informed of any development during the event.
Music: the art of organized noise. The blend of pitch and rhythm combined in different mediums and enjoyed by our ears. A very interpretive art, music isn’t very clearly constricted or defined by one definition. With so many varieties of music, it’s difficult to say what aspect is really the most important. Some people think music’s history and the appreciation of music are the most important aspects to take into consideration. Some think complex in rhythms and melodies make the best music. Some people devote their whole lives to studying one genre of music in order to fully understand how that genre works. While all of these aspects of music are important, none of them can truly be compared with each other on a fair playing field. Music of different genres, eras, and geographic backgrounds were written for different purposes, different people, and different settings. Still, there is still one overarching theme that applies to all forms of music new or old: the way the composer presents his or her creation. The performance and presentation of a work of music is like the icing on the top of a cake. The cake may be the best you’ve ever tasted, but if the icing on the outside doesn’t look appealing or doesn’t taste good, chances are you’ll take a different piece of cake with better looking frosting next time. The performance of music is what appeals most to people. With live performance, an artist must “sell” his or her creation. They must put smile on their face and convey to the audience that this is their music and through the music explain why it’s awesome. They must persevere through whatever the stage, the audience, and their surroundings give them and put on a good show. In today’s popular music though, this aspect of showma...
The method of marketing to a specific generation is affecting the way that we market and sell products. Different generations have different consumer characteristics, and this allows marketer’s to target specific segments. There are four common generational categories that marketing focuses on. They include:
Gibson, C & Connell, J 2011, ‘Music Festivals and Regional Development in Australia’, pp. 199-205.
The environment was quite welcoming, and people felt comfortable with each other. This allowed for the audience to fully enjoy the music without any disruptions. Another factor that made me enjoy the jazz festival was the feel-good music that was played at the festival which served to encourage the audience to get up and dance. Thus, diversification is a significant lesson to grasp when observing music because all music has different origin from another genre and acknowledging this gives the person to become more diverse as an individual.
This essay will demonstrate economic and socio-cultural impacts of events and following this there will be some examples of certain events supporting the range of the impacts. All events have impacts. (Hall, 1997) „Impacts are immensely important because they relate to issues of sustainability and accountability.“ (Bowdin, 2010: 114) Those impacts may be positive and beneficial, which is usually the main point of doing an event. Some of them are being more evident than others. Positive impacts, such as strengthening community cohesion, engendering community identity and pride, revitalizing cultural traditions or enhancing place meanings to residents. “Impacts cannot be viewed in absolute terms of good and bad nor be regarded entirely in isolation from one another. Rather, the impacts on a host community are intertwined and depend on goals and values…within that community” (Boyko 2008: 162)
