This essay will demonstrate economic and socio-cultural impacts of events and following this there will be some examples of certain events supporting the range of the impacts. All events have impacts. (Hall, 1997) „Impacts are immensely important because they relate to issues of sustainability and accountability.“ (Bowdin, 2010: 114) Those impacts may be positive and beneficial, which is usually the main point of doing an event. Some of them are being more evident than others. Positive impacts, such as strengthening community cohesion, engendering community identity and pride, revitalizing cultural traditions or enhancing place meanings to residents. “Impacts cannot be viewed in absolute terms of good and bad nor be regarded entirely in isolation from one another. Rather, the impacts on a host community are intertwined and depend on goals and values…within that community” (Boyko 2008: 162) But there are also negative impacts. Such as incur costs or they have negative consequences. These undesirable impacts reduce the benefits of the event. Negative impacts are those which collectively and negatively impact upon the lives of local communities, such as crowding, rowdy behaviour, traffic congestion, substance abuse, crime and loss of amenity, as well as feelings of community manipulation, commodization or exclusion. (Bowdin, 2010) This is the important task for event managers- to predict the impacts of events, to manage them in such a way so that „on balance the overall impact of the event is positive.“ (Bowdin, 2010: 80) The success of events is often ultimately assessed according to economic criteria such as income generation, employment generation or the attraction of inward investment. The Olympic tourism was expected to have long-lasting benefits for Sydney as well as for Australia even before the Games have begun. It was estimated by the Tourism Council that as a result of the international exposure from the Games there would be an increase of 1.6 million additional tourists from 1997 to 2004. However, even though the park has had positive impacts, there exists media reports concerned about post-Games impacts reporting of post-Olympic problems. In 2001 and 2002 was Sydney Olympic Park frequently empty. For example, the Sydney Olympic Park has been re-created from 2006 to 2009 as an attempt to ensure that Sydney´s Olympic legacy was sustainable and positive. The main point of re-building the park was to have there the state election in March 2007, which was successful.

September 11, 2001 was a day that Americans and the world for that matter will not soon forget. When two planes went into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and two others went into the Pentagon and a small town in Pennsylvania, the world was rocked. Everyone in the United States felt very vulnerable and unsafe from attacks that might follow. As a result, confidence in the CIA, FBI, and the airlines were shaken. War is not a cheap man’s game. At the core of every nation sits an economy comprised of varying wealth and resources. A nation’s prosperity is dependent on its economic fortitude. In a constant state of fluctuation, economic prosperity is often fleeting, with a single event capable of causing economic turmoil for decades to come. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 acted as a catalyst for economic change in the United States. The attacks presented isolated economic desolation, but the growing concern for security and the war on terror provided the greatest economic impact for the United States and the world.
In the past four years, Florida has cut their Unemployment rate in half. In 2010 the unemployment rate was at 11.4%; in January the unemployment rate for Florida was at 6.1% (Statistics 1). In this research paper I will be explaining why raising Minimum Wage will cost more to society than gain in the long run. WHile many people are happy that they are looking to raise minimum wage, more people are highly infuriated with the concept behind it. most people have questioned the idea behind it. For example; if the minimum wage goes up, what else will go up in prices? Or what prices go down? Will the people that are unfortanate and need help that get food stamps and WIC still get the amount they have been getting or will they get less? WIll they gte more? Will buisinesss let more people go due to the cost of employment? I will be showiing my research behind every question that came to mind and every aspect behind the Raise of Minimum wage.
With over two hundred countries participating, the Olympic Games is easily considered as one of the largest multisport event known to history. The Olympics are held at a different country, and even more rarely at the same city. For a country to be chosen to host the Olympics, the country’s National Olympic Committee (the country’s representatives for the Olympics) nominates a city (from the country they represent) that they think has potential in hosting the Olympics nine years prior to when they wish to host the Olympics. It is a two year process that consists of: Application Phase, Candidate Phase and the Election of the Host City. The country that wins the election is given seven years to prepare for the Olympics. (International Olympic Committee, n.d., p. xx-xx) The hosting country expends billions of dollars, usually money they don’t have, preparing for the Olympics. Then the question is raised 'why would a country go through so much trouble and spend an outrageous amount of money to host this event?' Throughout this discussion paper it will address all the pros and cons for a country to host the Olympics. It will also see if a smaller sports event can produce the same benefits the Olympic offers with less cost and risk.
