I chose to remix my cultural artifact which was my pointe shoes. I remixed my pointe shoes by creating a website about them and dance in general. I wanted to remix my cultural artifact because dance is a major part of my life and I thought it would be the best project to remix. The website has personal elements to it but is also includes more general facts and dance information. I included information about my dancing experience as well as basic information about dance and pointe shoes. I decided that it would be useful to include information for where I am currently dancing at Michigan State and other dance studios that are around campus.
I created my website on weebly.com because I knew it was a simple website creator. I got to choose the theme and the layout of the website and add different pages to it so it would fit my style. I first added text to the website in more a blog style form, the text was about my own experiences in dance because I wanted to give people some background on me. I added links to other pages, such as dance studios, that people could find helpful if they were looking for a place to dance. I added photographs and videos to the page to make it more interesting and to support what I had written. My intended audience for the website was people coming to Michigan State and looking for a place to dance or just interested in dance in general.
My website has three pages to it: About, Home, Contact. The About page is about me, it gives background on my dance experience and where I dance know. I also included a photo of myself dancing because I wanted to keep the website personal. The Home page includes text, photos, videos, and diagrams. It has some text that I wrote about my own dance experience as wel...

This remix project was a good way for me to learn how to reform my ideas so that they can fit in a new format and be understood. Creating a website made me think about what I had written about more, I had to condense my thoughts and use a photograph or a diagram to express what I wanted to say for some things. I also had to shorten a lot of my text because they were long articles that were not necessary. I think remixing my cultural artifact made me think about what it was more, it helped me understand what it really meant to me. My website is about dance in general, not specifically my pointe shoes, and how it has affected me in my life. I did not expect for my website to be about pointe shoes because they are not what dance is, they only represent what dance is and what it means to me.
Learning about Dance: Dance as an Art Form and Entertainment provides visions into the many features of dance and inspires scholars to keep an open mind and think critically about the stimulating, bold, ever-changing and active world of dance. Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and differentiate between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at times have sharp delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is far more subtle. Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand the breadth and increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle born dancer and choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris' began as one of the millions of hopeful individuals attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have a lasting effect on the entire landscape of dance.
What Swales means by this is that a discourse community should have ways where members of the community could communicate with each other, and that each way should have a specific purpose. The two most effective ways of communication in the dance discourse community are dance classes and workshops, since it is mainly a community that requires members to be involved physically. There are also a lot of ways to communicate online, such as blogs where someone, usually a dance expert, posts some tips and information that might be helpful. And group chats, where dance members from all over the world can chat together and share experiences. Also live dance tutorials, where you can learn how to dance from home as if you were in a dance class. There are a ton of dance magazines, weekly newsletters and subscription services where a member can be up to date with what is going on in the dance community, especially dance
Traditions in Chinese culture are long-rooted and are taken very seriously from generation to generation. However, there must always be room for modern change in order for society to grow and strive across the globe. In Bound Feet and Western Dress the conflict between Chinese traditions and modern change arises. With this conflict it is important to discuss the different meanings of liberation for men and women and they way in which Chang Yu-I was able to obtain liberation throughout her life.
Culture, a significant aspect of an individual identity, tending to be defined from your birth, woven by the gods: however, I defy the hand of fate by picking my own cultural identity... For why should I be forced into the culture that was imposed upon me, just because of my heritage, religion, beliefs, and customs; instead of discovering my own and being myself. I am to tell you the culture I subjugate myself into; a sub-genre of gaming and anime culture, collectively called otaku, and help broaden your mind to the new phenomenon of a different type of pop culture.
The dancing community I’ve been apart of since the age of three is one that has consisted of blood, sweat and tears... literally. My discourse community, meaning a group of members who use communication to achieve goals and purposes, is one I have worked hard to be apart of. My Dance studio is its own discourse community. With the movement of a person’s body on and off stage, they are able to express emotions as well as tell a story at the same time. John Swales believes their are six characteristics which makes for a discourse community. These include having the members of a community sharing their own goals, intercommunication, feedback, genre, lexis, and a level of members with a suitable degree (Swales 220-222). When one thinks of dancers,
Native American Ritual Dancing “It has often been said that the North American Indians ‘dance out’ their religions” (Vecsey 51). There were two very important dances for the Sioux tribe, the Sun Dance and the Ghost Dance. Both dances show the nature of Native American spirituality. The Ghost Dance and the Sun Dance were two very different dances, however both promote a sense of community.
Even though people always tend to attribute “authentic” knowledge of a practice or product by tracing its culture, in the currently globalizing world where the cultures are overlapped and intertwine with one another, the criteria is ineffective due to the difficulty of ascribing the practice to a specific culture; hence, the notion of cultural authenticity is no longer legitimate. The cross-cultural origins and further developments of the Contemporary Ballet illustrate that to simply consider this dance form authentically American is inappropriate, whereby demonstrates the high degree of illegitimacy in the pursuit of cultural authenticity.

Remix Culture One of the biggest issues that arises with remix art is the issue of ‘Remix vs. Plagiarism.” When does a remixed work become an original work of art? Is the work considered original as soon as it is tweaked or when it is unrecognizable? Neither, a work is unique when its purpose and meaning transcends that of the original. Works like Montgomery Lee’s “Copyright Symphony” take a variety of images and use them to create music out of the embedded data in the photographs.
When MacKenzie choreographs she focuses on delivering spectacularly rich performances. She has the ability to combine and create beautiful and engaging movement designs with an unusually effective understanding of concert dance architecture (Nevin, 2013). The audience is able to see the beauty each dance imposes. She is able to capture the audience with every dance and take them on a beautiful journey. She is also thoughtful in everything she does, but especially in anything that deals with any type of human connection, which is one of the many reasons why she is so successful as a teacher (Nevin, 2013). With her thoughtfulness and new ideas she is also open to learning and embracing new possibilities (Nevin, 2013). She is not just open t...
The first of which being the characters. While creating the website I focus on the love story between Romeo and Juliet. This being said I did not see the importance off including the supporting characters in the dating website. Due to this a lot of characterizations and understanding of the complete story was lost. Without the families to show their rivalry and the friends and cousins killing each other to show how the story escalated so quickly a lot of the drama was lost. Also with heavy concentration on Juliet and her communication with viewer he dialogue and input from Romeo was lost. Although he is a major part of the image of the website he is little more than an advertisement. The greatest lost transferring form a live action play to a website is the emotion and tragedy invoked by the scenes actors and atmosphere. A website is unable to appeal to the pathos of an audience like a play or a movie
Next is in terms of the design and aesthetics. Layout that being used for this website is a plain white which easier people to read the text that is in black, in contrast and suitable for the concept of showroom online. The font is also suits which is not too big and not too small to be read by people. To highlight the main subject or the main product, the font is being bold to alert customers that they choose the right one. There is no audio available for this website or even a video. But somehow, as it was a home furnishing website, most of the pictures being used by the website is in JPEG format to deliver a clear view of the products to customers.

Even though dance first originated back in the 20th century when dancer Isadora Duncan broke away from the strict rules of ballet to create her own more natural form of dance. Through time and experimentation, many genres of dance has surfaced - whether from oppression or for theatrical purposes, each one has captured the eyes of it 's audience. From flashy, sequined clothes to light and flowy dresses; each form of dance has it 's own representation. As well as representation, each genre of dance has powerful emotion in it. These popular forms of dance can be classified into three categories: the pounding and rhythmic beats of Hip-hop, the powerful meanings of modern dance, and the wonderful elegance of ballet, the most thought-out.Everyone has watched in amazement as their high school dance
