INTRODUCTION
A few years ago, a friend approached me about partnering with her in the purchase of a day spa. I had always wanted the freedom and satisfaction that comes with being my own boss. After deciding to move forward with my partner and buy a day spa, I learned to put together a business plan, personnel criteria, and marketing plan.
1. CONCRETE EXPERIENCE
Prior to purchasing the day spa, I learned while doing my research that the spa industry is a growing industry and that more than any other time in history; people are leading very stressful lives. Because of that stress, they are becoming more consciences of their health and well-being and are willing to spend their discretionary funds to indulge in pampering themselves with spa services.
After purchasing the day spa, the first order of business was to create a partnership agreement between myself and my partner. After coming to a consensus on the terms, we met with an attorney who formalized our agreement and incorporated our business. We decided to incorporate so we would not be liable to pay the debts of the corporation if were to be involved in any litigation.
The next order of business was to prepare a business plan. There are many aspects of a day spa that can be co-managed but I felt my background as a paralegal and executive in corporate America qualified me to take the lead in writing our business plan. Our business plan would serve as our strategy in moving forward but first I needed to establish our mission statement. Basically, our mission statement was to provide excellent services to our clients while making a profit.

Once the target market has been identified it is important to develop a marketing strategy. In today's fast paced, information overloaded society; conveying a message about a product seems to be more difficult than ever. The consumer is bombarded with advertising everywhere they look. Today advertising not only exists on television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, it can be found on billboards, park benches, in our mailboxes, on buses, taxis, at sporting events, and on clothing.
Recently I watched a T.V. show called The Profit and recognized some similarities from the current Marketing chapter discussed in class. The current episode was about a company called Bentley’s Corner Barkery, which is committed in providing all-natural pet food and treats for their customers. The episode highlighted how Bentley’s Corner Barkery was struggling and not reaching all of their potential customer base because of its marketing structure among other poor managing and financial elements. Before Marcus Lemonis (he is the investor) the company marketing strategy was the quality of product will attract customers. Marcus Lemonis immediately ask for the company’s mission statement and help the owners identify their target customers by segmentation.
If I were to start my own business, my dream would be to build a surf and skate shop on the Southern California coast. My business would be located on beachfront property in the surrounding area. This business plan will cover two main subjects, 1: an Analysis of the Business Situation, and 2: the Planned Operation of the proposed business. The first topic will cover the subtopics Trading Area Analysis and Competition in the area for my business. The second main topic will cover the proposed organization of the business, the proposed business, and proposed strategies for that business. The analysis of the business situation will cover geographic and demographic information for Huntington and the surrounding area. It will also contain an analysis of businesses in the area which are of similar type, customer buying behavior relating to my proposed business, and the potential location of my business. The Proposed Operation section will address the topics of ownership, start-up procedure, personnel needs, special functions, and an organizational chart. Details of products which will be sold will also be included, as will my business' pricing policy. I would hope that through my thorough planning and explanation that my business idea will be a grand success on the beautiful beaches of California.

The modern dynamic market and economic changes demand for the adoption of a well through of business plan that incorporates the entire business requirements (Pinson, 2004). The Paradise Beauty Centre will be a small enterprise that will focuses on the production and distribution of beauty products in United States of America. Product is what the company is selling; Place is where the consumer will obtain this product; Price is what the consumer will pay for the product; Promotion is any type of communication that is intended to remind, inform, or persuade. (Dlabay 2006.) The marketing mix and the four P’s describe very well what business marketing is all about.
Conclusively, the marketing plan is indispensable to the firm. Marian Burke Wood wrote that it encompasses more than just marketing, it also includes the discussion of locations, staffing and financing. Asking questions such as which market should be penetrated, strengths and weaknesses that the firm brings to the marketplace. If sufficient resources are available, and if so, can be exploited, may prove to be more than just a handful of core benefits.
“Marketing plan designs specific action programs that implement the desired strategy” (Walter & Dana, 2007,pp. 50). This marketing plan will look after the company’s vision, mission and values. Then, it will go on to the situation analysis where in it will discuss the competitiveness of the company among the others using the SWOT, PESTEL and Porter’s analysis. Next, it will move on to the objective of the company that will be presented and it will go on to the marketing mix strategies that need to be applied by the company in order to achieve the desired outcomes.
