How to Be Successful in College College is a unique and a great opportunity any individual can experience. People go to college for all kinds of reason. Well, whatever the reason might be, their going down the right pathway to success. It can be a bumpy road, but with my three easy step to be successful in college, that bumpy road of yours will soon be a smooth straight road ahead. Five steps to be successful in college is to take good notes, manage your time, study, be confident, and maintain a healthy habit. Step one, to succeed in college is taking good notes. This can help students organize their study time more effectively. Because we all have experienced the, last minute studying technique. That’s when the notes come to play. Instead of going through chapters …show more content…
eight and nine in the book, which can be overwhelming, just glance over the notes. Make sure to write in a legible fashion, use abbreviation, and do not stop taking notes until the class is dismissed. Step two, is the most important one, manage you time. College is about being organization. Best way to manage time is cut down on technology use; for example, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Pinterest and Snapchat. Next would be to use a planner, so we will know when things are due and how long we have till the next upcoming test. Another way is too, don’t stress. Because instead of us stressing about a thing we have in mind, will only put us behind. Put it to work and move on, after completing it, we feel good and then think to ourselves that stressing will get us nowhere. Step three, without it we would fail our classes is to study. Make sure to pick a quiet room with no distraction. Most effective way to study is using the box method with flashcards. It’s were we take five flashcard boxes and number them one though five. One being I don’t know, two is I need help, third box would say almost there, fourth one would say I kind of remember my work, and finally the last flashcard box would say I got it. Place all the flashcards in the first box and keep studying until all of them get to the fifth box. Step four, needs to be carried out throughout college which is confidence.
Always remember that you’re not alone. Take something your good at. This is very important. If doing something we’re not interested in, most likely that we are not going to do well in that particular subject, so do what interest us. Another way to be confident is to take smaller class size. By doing this we will fell more comfortable taking to our teacher and being more open and free to talk to our classmates than a class room with two hundred and fifty students. Also, don’t underestimate yourself when being confident we need to turn off all negative thoughts. Yes, we will have downfalls but get right back up and start again. Don’t give up. Final step in being successful in college is to always maintain a healthy body. Because with all the homework and some classes cutting between our lunch times, doesn’t mean to just skip lunch. With less food is our system, this can cause us to be cranky and fatigue. Also having a proper sleep schedule is important too. Because our memories work well with sleep, so pulling an all-nighter before an exam is not a good idea. A balance diet and sleep pattern will give us more focus and
energy.
I always heard that college would be tough, but I went in to college with a set mind that I was going to finish strong and at the end be successful. I kept my head focused and always made sure to get my work done no matter how hard it was.
...ut fun, I'm stressing my mind too much. Austin Dopp and Thomas Parish created an ABC journal about how to succeed in college. They mentioned that students need to study but also take a break and be ready to learn and pay attention (Dopp, Austin, Parish). Powers and Swick mention in tip seven, celebrate small accomplishments along the way, is that you should celebrate your small accomplish like tests, quiz, and finishing you semester.
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” (Keller) College is definitely a challenge, but it is also a very beautiful thing. Many students enter college expecting knowledge and a sense of direction. It may be hard to balance school between work, you’re social life, life at home, personal issues, etc. A few challenges that I know about all too well have to deal with money, transportation, and procrastination. You spend all of high school listening to your teachers and parents preparing you for what is to come in the near future. The truth is that there is only one way of truly learning, from experience.

When I was very young I could not see the value of a good education, like Mike Rose while he was in the vocational classes. From the first time I went to college to now I have changed immensely and i now see the value of a good education, I think one of the reasons was because I saw how hardworking and generous my grandfather was. Working for HK Contractors, I made good money but, they work you almost to death. Growing older has shown me how hard work and dedication will pay off. This time school was what I wanted to do, not what I thought was expected of me.

Of all the advices, I have received over the past two years in college, I think the best advice is time management. This is an advice given to us at any given time in our life. It might seem like “duh” time management is important, but if you manage to manage your time or completing your work at a good pace, adjusting to college is not bad at all. In fact, transitioning into college you gain more time for yourself. It’s true you might still have a 9 am to 5 pm day, but in that day it's most likely you will take up to 3 classes a day, and in the semester at most you would take maybe 4 or 5 courses. Whereas in highschool you had maybe 7 to 8 classes a day, with assignments due the very next day. It’s true that college assignments seems more,

Entering college, I heard a quote that said: “what you do in your twenty’s will determine the rest of your life.” After hearing it, I had to ensure that my entire college experience will be very beneficial for my future. When deciding on a major, I looked back in my life to see what skills I was proficient in and also discuss with adults on how they feel about the career they were positioned in at the time. After receiving the great feedback from people who are long in their career and reflecting on my life to figure out my passion, I decided to pursue the major in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I came to this conclusion by knowing I am very well with my hands, I love math, and I am always intrigued with new technology. My father also
