Over the length of the semester, many things have been taught and many skills have been learned, all to help myself be successful. I believe that some important skills that have been taught were motivation, personality, communication, time and money management, and critical thinking. Using these skills has helped me to have great relationships with the faculty and students of FSW in my first semester. The key thing to being a successful college student is having motivation. Most people go to college to create a better life for themselves and their family, some go to prove they can achieve greater things to either themselves or to someone else, whatever reason you have, you made the choice to start. Having the motivation to make sacrifices, work extra hard, and put in the extra effort will help you to achieve higher grades. I believe that having the motivation to do better in college than I did in high school is what has helped me to achieve the higher grades. I also believe my understanding of why I’m attending college will help to motivate me and help me reach my dreams. When you start college …show more content…
Since the schools and communities around us are becoming increasingly diverse, we must learn to respect other individuals regardless of their cultural beliefs. I believe that once you understand yourself and have done some “me search”, only then will you be able to understand other individuals. Each individual brings something special and unique to the table, and being part of the culturally rich and diverse environment FSW has created has shown me that there is nothing wrong with other cultures. I feel that I have gained many different interpersonal and critical thinking abilities, and with that being said also an awareness of the many viewpoints of others. Being understanding and observant of other individuals’ culture and aware of the diversity, people can live together with less
Just because other perspectives are incorporated in the classroom, this doesn’t mean that everyone will become more understanding and appreciative of other cultures. When multicultural practices have rigorous standards, allow the advancement of social communications with other cultures, and allow the advancement social justice concepts both inside and outside of the classroom, this is when students will become more appreciative of other cultures (Ladson-Billings, 1995, p.162).
Attending college is worth it. Students who get a college education and graduate have many more life changing opportunities than those who don 't; the debates of studying after high school has been ongoing for many years but statistics have proven that majority to all students who go to college achieve more life goals than the average high school graduate. They get more work benefits, life skills, higher paying salaries, etc. There is a downside to everything in life such as debt is to college education. However, the price students pay is so small compared to what the benefits they receive after graduating from college.
It is easy to forget that a huge part of your success in college is staying healthy, keeping a sharp mind and sound body. It is very important to eat right and to maintain a routine sleeping schedule. Staying active and making sure you get enough sleep so that you can keep yourself healthy. A recent study found that walking once a day increase your memorization, which in turn helps you to do better studying.
As the former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok wrote “The most obvious purpose of college education is to help students acquire information and knowledge by acquainting them with facts, theories, generalizations, principles, and the like. This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society. Students need to be taught to their specific career and the knowledge needed in that career. Though education students are strengthened for their futures as good citizens. College is a more specialized form of the education they have received throughout their entire schooling and will need for their careers. College prepares students for the future by specializing
A college degree is one of the best educations that a person can get. It not only develops your mind, but it helps to develop you as a person as well. No matter what kind of degree you receive, whether it be a bachelors, associates, or masters you are more likely to get a better job than without it or with just a high school diploma. Workers with a college degree will earn much more and are much less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school diploma. This paper will argue that with a college degree you are more likely to get a higher paying job than without a degree. I will support this argument with multiple scholarly articles and other valid sources to further convince you.
I have always had a strong belief that I could pass college like I did in high school. Always relying on those quick study sessions before a test or having the teacher going over the material right before a test. But boy was I wrong. In my first test I learned the hard way that studying is essential in college.
You might be sitting there right now trying to finish you assignment that is due tomorrow but you just started. It is probably late and you are going to stay up all night to finish it and go to school in the morning. This will only result in you being late for class, being in a cranky mood and not getting such a great mark on the paper. Procrastination and lack of sleep will not help you become successful in high school. These bad habits will make your high school life miserable. This is not the way to get through high school.
To be a successful college student, the student needs to have a goal. The ultimate goal could be a future career, graduate school, or just wanting to further their education. Students do not simply go to college because their parents told them to go to college, or because it is the next thing to do after high school. Successful college students go to college to further their knowledge and to pursue a career they are passionate about. Why would one waste a lot of money to go to college when they do not have any motivation to be there?
There are several qualities to have to be successful in college. These qualities can range from attending class to going above and beyond what’s expected. Success comes from the journey taken or the path chosen. Success also comes from being prepared. As a student, I must step up to the challenge and find the path to success along the way. Several ways I define success is to uphold academic integrity, have the ability to prioritize, and to motivate myself to stay on top of what needs to be accomplished.
Living in a diverse world should be something a person should be proud of. Getting to know a person’s culture and their beliefs should be a wonderful ability. Respecting one another is important, even though a lot of people still disregard that, which should discontinue. We should all start to learn how to make this world a better place,

Most of us would agree that college is one of the most exciting, yet most challenging times of our lives. It is typically our first time living away from home for an extended period of time. When I went away to college, I was eager to embrace the next chapter of my life because it was something life-changing that I had yet to experience. However, entering college was also scary for me because nobody handed me a “how to survive college” guidebook. I feel that everyone should be given a book full of tips and tricks that outline the ups and downs that lie ahead throughout our college experience, so that we can maximize our time in school and reach our full potential. That this why this anthology is important for all of us. This anthology summarizes some of the most important tips to survive college, that I have learned thus far as a current freshman about to finish my fall semester. No matter who you are or where you come from, these few, simple tips to be explained will help ease the transition from high school and living at home to college and living on your own. This topic is meaningful because I know how it feels to go off to college excited for the journey ahead, nervous to leave family and friends, and not knowing what to expect. This guidebook should help future freshman to succeed and make the most of their
Many studies now show that it doesn’t take a college degree to become successful but what people define success as is different for everybody. Success in my perspective is being educated in many different areas, being able to support yourself and your family to the best of your ability, and achieving as many of your goals as you can. Sometimes life gets in the way and may make it seem like it’s impossible but, often times you will find yourself with advantages that could potentially help you become who you want to be. Some advantages i’ve had that helped me become a college student was my parents not furthering their education themselves, attending Newton Public Schools, and having a generous and encouraging support
Success is something we all wish to achieve and even though we have different definitions of success, we all want to success in different aspects of our lives. For some success, success is attaining an education, others it's getting a good job, for others it's being wealthy, and others to start and own a business while for others it's having a family of our own and seeing our children prosper. We all have different metrics of measuring success and we all have different goals, but it is part of human instinct to want success, to want to succeed in everything we do no matter how small or big. Success gives us a feeling of development and growth, a sense of gratification that we are no longer where we used to be, but rather
