The Similarities and Differences in School and Competitive Volleyball The game of volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan in the year of 1895. Today there are over 46 million who play volleyball in the United States. There is over 800 million people worldwide who play volleyball at least once a week. (Athletic Scholarships) When somebody goes to pursue their career in college volleyball they normally have a rather large background of volleyball. Normally those people have put hard time, work, and money into getting recognized. They have played volleyball in high school and out of season competitive volleyball. Both of these look good when colleges are recruiting players, but there are some qualities that makes one more enjoyable than other for the players. There is some big similarities and differences when people think about both season and competitive volleyball, here are some of the examples; how much time consuming each one is, the prices between both, effort in the games and the rules between both. First off, school and club volleyball are both very time consuming but they both have different timings. School …show more content…
School seasons effort is so much lower compared to competitive seasons. During school, most people are just there going through the motions. While competitive, players are trying their hardest and to be the best you can be. They want to get their money's worth out of their season and try to compete their hardest and win as much as possible. Most school season coaches encourage their players to play on a competitive team with different teammates then the ones you play school season with. They encourage that because players meet other players who push each other. Once competitive season is done, and it's time for school season to start, the players are more well rounded and ready to get back with their school
I have played volleyball for 5 years. I have played school volleyball for five years, and club volleyball for four. Throughout my years of playing, I have recognized a significant difference between club volleyball and school volleyball. I have played for two clubs in my four years of playing club. The first two years, I played for a club named Platform Elite. The last two years, I have played for Iowa Select, and this year I am playing my club season with Infinity X. Personally, I prefer club volleyball over school volleyball. Club volleyball and school volleyball can be compared in three different categories: price, competition, and “politics” within the sport and its’ players.
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
Youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Youth sports can teach young children the value of hard work and discipline or it can be emotionally and physically damaging. Three main points are how sports keep you healthy, how they build character, and the values that they will learn from sports and how they will use in the future. These three ideas prove that youth sports can be healthy, they build character, and can teach them the value of hard work and discipline for your kid.
I practically was born with a ball in my hands, and whether it was bumping the ball around the house or knocking over things that just happened to be in my path, I was always with my precious volleyball. My family is also rooted into into the sport. After my mom’s high school team at Central won the state championship, she went on to play at Southeast Missouri. She has been an inspiration to me, and at 10 years old I began to play club volleyball thanks to her. Being one of the youngest on my team, I never got much playing time, but that year of watching and learning helped me settle into a team the year
Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan. It was created because basketball was good for kids, but it was too tiring for the local businessmen. Volleyball contained less running and it needed less endurance for the men to play. It was less strenuous, but it has evolved from there. Morgan wanted a game with strong athletic impulse, but no physical contact. He combined a tennis net and a basketball, and took the idea of innings from baseball. He soon found out that a basketball was too heavy, so he designed a new ball that was softer and lighter, the Volleyball. The Volleyball was originated in the United States on July 7, 1896 at Springfield College where the first volleyball game was played. The game started out going to twenty one points, but

Factors such as government funding, media exposure, international success and national identity have affected my participation in volleyball.
Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are a part of this level and are able to help kids choose a sport and partaking in physical activity. Schools have had the most impact on my participation in volleyball as they made the sport a choice for inter-school sport and also an option in HPE. The school has not forced me to take place in volleyball, but they have made it easy and fun to participate in, making myself enjoy the sport so much that I watch the pros play it on TV. Without these influences, I would not have thought of playing volleyball for the school. (Author; Dr Ralph Richards; year of publication; N.A last updated; 7 September 2016; Title; Clearinghouse for

As I walked onto the volleyball court, I noticed people were screaming and cheering all around me. They were all around me, and yet they all sounded strangely distant. I was nervous. I was worried that we might lose, but worst of all, I was worried that I might end up letting my teammates down. Negative thoughts continued filled my head and I drew closer and closer to my position. Once again, I found myself asking whether or not I truly belonged on this team. Now, this certainly was not the first time I questioned my place on the team, but little did I know that it would be the last.
The article this week discussed a very interesting topic does youth sports count as a positive development? This article discusses how there is a widespread belief that sports participation can help contribute to youth development because sports assumed essential goodness and purity is passed to those who partake in it. I’m a personally strong believer that youth sports are a lot more than learning the attributes and the fundamentals of the game. Participating in youth sports help children learn about teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship which can all be something that can help children contribute to their development as solid citizens of society. This article states that sports are viewed as an effective activity for solving problems and
Starting at age five til twelve I would sleep in my parents room. Until I was fourteen I would check under my bed and in my closet every night before bed.I thought of every possibility in every situation. My fear and anxiety robbed me of so many things. When I was nine years old I started to play the great game of volleyball. I loved it. I was good at it too. I moved up to club leagues and was a starter for every game. I had a topspin jump serve. I could set to anyone on the court, but the point of this essay is not to brag but it's how i lost the thing i loved. The main reason reason why I loved volleyball so much was because it gave me something i was good at. At home and school I did not feel either of those. I didn't have the talent of
Throughout my early childhood, I went through several different phases. I practiced an abundance of different activities such as: dance, baseball, tumbling, gymnastics, and even baton. However, none of these sports or hobbies stuck. That is, until I discovered volleyball. Never have I felt the love for something as much as I did this sport. Volleyball has had an unimaginable impact on my life in so many ways. I would not be the person I am today if not for this sport.
