Does a brand of volleyball influence a player’s serve? Many players have asked this question and have not found enough proof to back it up. This paper will provide information on the history of volleyball, the creation of the official ball, and facts on different volleyball brands. The Volleyball sport was created in 1985 by William G. Morgan. The inventor wanted to create a game that used a ball and a net. Unfortunately, at that time there were no balls that fit that idea. In the beginning, players used a basketball; however, the basketball’s heavy weight made the ball go slow in the air. Morgan decided on a different idea instead. Morgan asked A.G. Spalding, and Brothers to make a new ball that would better fit the idea. After …show more content…
However, if the force is not enough, then the ball will not go over the net. The ball is light enough to stay in the air long enough so that the next player can receive the ball. Velocity is important in a game to know how fast the ball will go and that it would stay within the limits of the court. Velocity is the speed of the object in a certain location. An example of velocity is a jump serve. The player throws the ball into the air, as the ball comes down to the player goes up in the air and hits the ball which gives a topspin over the net. Another example of velocity is a regular serve. During the serve the ball seems to dip down and allows the hitter to put more power into the hit. The type of serve has a higher velocity on the lower side of the ball, and a lower velocity on the top of the ball which creates the topspin. Now that the reader understands more about the history of volleyball, the advancements and creation of the balls over the years and how physics plays a big role in the game of volleyball, the next step is to test a couple of volleyballs. This test will discover which brand of volleyball is best for serving. All this information will be very important to volleyball players that are looking to buy a
With this discovery, Phil Young persuaded Fred Bommer, to “head up the Acushnet Golf Division” (Titleist Story - Titleist.com. (2016). They set out to develop the highest quality and best performing golf ball in the world; one that would be uniform and consistent in quality, ball after ball. A trait that is still found within the Titleist brand (Titleist Story - Titleist.com. (2016).
Does turf make a ball bounce higher than grass? The researcher will test the bounce of a soccer ball on grass and turf. The ball will bounce on the different surfaces and the tester will see which one makes the ball bounce higher.
I looked in their faces and knew mine mirrored theirs. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Just ten minutes ago, we all were so jubilant. We were so sure we were going to win. We had all wanted it for so long, but we finally felt is as our destiny just a few moments ago. But as our opponent threw the ball in the air, I knew she was just about to serve another ace. However, when the ball landed three feet in front of our best passer, something snapped inside of me.

Basketball originated in 1891 when future Presbyterian minister named James Naismith (1861-1939) was assigned to teach a P.E. class at Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The class had been noted for being disorderly, and Naismith was told to invent a new game to keep the young men occupied. Since it was winter and very cold outside, the game had to be played indoors was desirable. Naismith had a flashback to his childhood in Canada, where he and his friends had played "duck on a rock,”. The game involved trying to knock a large rock off a boulder by throwing smaller rocks at it. He also recalled watching rugby players toss a ball into a box in a gym. He had the idea to nail up boxes and the players would attempt to throw a ball. When he couldn't find boxes he used peach baskets. According to Alexander Wolff, in his book 100 Years of Hoops, Naismith drew up the rules for the new game in "about an hour." Most of them still apply in some form of todays. Basketball was a simple game that could be played indoors during winter. Naismith spread the rules freely, and there was a need for Naismith's legacy included the first great college basketball coach, Forrest "Phog" Allen (1885-1974), who played for Naismith at the University of Kansas and went on to win 771 games as a coa...

The first ideas of organized play originated in the 1890s and lasts still today. Organized team sport was looked as a way for Americans to improve their cities. Americans believed that organized team sports was a way that could help govern themselves more successfully like a democracy. Not only did Americans believe that they could improve their cities with organized sports but, they also believed that they could improve education in the schools by adding physical education and team competition. Organized team sport was viewed as a way to add further educational value in the school system that children could not get in any other subjects in school. The spread of physical education in the schools was originated by Luther Halsey Gulick. Gulick
Imagine playing a six hour tennis match! Well, the longest match ever played was six hours long; played by Vicki Nelson and Jean Hepner in 1984. (Seminara, 2009) The scoring for tennis is kind of difficult if not familiar of how the game is played. The way the scoring goes is “luv, 15, 30, 40, or deuce if the score is 40-40. If it is 30-30, then it is said like “30 all”. In order to win, the game is played best of three matches. The winner must win by two games. In my study I will be getting the speeds of a group of tennis girls hitting the tennis balls. My hypothesis is that the more experience you have in tennis, the fast you should be able to hit. Because there are so many varieties of elements in tennis, one should consider the difference in racquets, tennis shoes, courts, and balls
Soccer is a sport that is all about motion and how to use movements most effectively. Speed and velocity are very important when it comes to motion because with out them there would be no motion. When playing soccer speed is essential to being a productive player. The game is fast paced and so the players must also be quick on their feet. Soccer players may not know that velocity is essential to being able to control their movements. But physics proves that both are essential to soccer. Speed and direction are b...
James Naismith, creator of basketball, used a soccer ball as the first basketball. The game of soccer was originally played with an inflated animal bladder that was surrounded with leather (Leibs 67). Just as in every sport, as time evolves, so do the materials being played with. The materials begin becoming more durable, controllable, and affordable. During the Renaissance period, many sports were evolved and took a turn for the better. Although many sports were introduced during the Renaissance period; football, lawn bowling, and tennis were the three main sports that influenced today’s time period the most.
There are many aspects to the game of basketball and physics can be applied to all of them. Although to be good at basketball it is not necessary to play it from a physics point of view. Basketball players become good by developing muscle memory for the actions that must be performed in the game of basketball from years of practice. Nevertheless knowing some of the physics in the game of basketball can help a good player be a better player. In this paper I will cover the three most important aspects of the game, shooting, dribbling and passing.
The history of volleyball goes back to the year 1895. The game was invented by a man by the name of William G. Morgan, at a YMCA in Massachusetts (NCVA). It is especially popular in the U.S., which is where it originated (NCVA).
As I walked onto the volleyball court, I noticed people were screaming and cheering all around me. They were all around me, and yet they all sounded strangely distant. I was nervous. I was worried that we might lose, but worst of all, I was worried that I might end up letting my teammates down. Negative thoughts continued filled my head and I drew closer and closer to my position. Once again, I found myself asking whether or not I truly belonged on this team. Now, this certainly was not the first time I questioned my place on the team, but little did I know that it would be the last.
