Club Volleyball vs. School Volleyball I have played volleyball for 5 years. I have played school volleyball for five years, and club volleyball for four. Throughout my years of playing, I have recognized a significant difference between club volleyball and school volleyball. I have played for two clubs in my four years of playing club. The first two years, I played for a club named Platform Elite. The last two years, I have played for Iowa Select, and this year I am playing my club season with Infinity X. Personally, I prefer club volleyball over school volleyball. Club volleyball and school volleyball can be compared in three different categories: price, competition, and “politics” within the sport and its’ players.

With club volleyball I notice that there are less "politics" involved compared to when you play for the school. During school volleyball, there tends to be a bigger amount of arguments between teammates because we know each other outside of the gym and practice. Fellow teammates know how everyone acts during school, and we tend to know about the drama each of us are in. Unfortunately, there is still a small amount of "politics" in club volleyball; most of it involves the parents. More times than not, the parents will participate in petty arguments, and then they will continue to talk about each other which brings the kids into the mess. Those situations are very far and few between, thankfully. Going back to school volleyball, there can also be "politics" when it involves money. If a family donates more money to the school, they can be favored by the coach and sometimes get more playing time when they don’t necessarily deserve it. Lacrosse is a fast-growing American high school sport and becoming very successful within the past few decades, so it’s important to analyze how lacrosse has gotten to where it is today and what impacted the spread. The research question is: How has lacrosse changed over the years, and what impacted the spread? Research shows that lacrosse is becoming more popular every year, and many more people are becoming aware of this sport so the history behind what is known as ‘America’s first sport’ should be known. According to the National Federation of State High School, between 2009 and 2013, participation between high school boys and girls has increased for a total of 34%. Soccer and lacrosse are obviously two different sports , but in a way they are both very similar to each other. Similarly, they both use a ball for their main part of the game.They use the ball to bring it down the field and a try to score on the opposing team. Another similarity is that they both have goalkeepers to help protect the ball from not going in on the team's side. They both stand in their goal box and they are able to bring it down field if they want. In addition, they use nets on the back of the goalkeepers with bars that show how big the goal is and so the ball doesn't fly out of the field when the team scores.Another example of a similarity between soccer and lacrosse is that they both involve a lot of running. Varsity sports play one of the largest roles in the modern school system. They can one of the most influential parts of a youngling’s experience. However, with that comes great challenges and sociological issues embedded into the sports that show conflict and adversity in certain times. After reviewing some of these issues the true structure of varsity sports may be identified, and possibly reviewed.
Not everyone would agree that volleyball is America’s favorite pastime, but I think they're in denial. I spend virtually all my time practicing, playing, or watching volleyball, so that counts for something, right? The fast pace keeps spectators captivated in the simple yet overly complex game. Sprinting down the field, using the last burst of adrenaline. Only seven seconds left on the clock. The ball is launched from one net to another. Will they make it in time? They all sprint down the field. Desperate for an open pass, #6 cuts to the right and runs in for the shot. The ball slowly lands in the back of the stick and quickly makes it’s way out again, and into the goal. What sport did you first think of when you read this? You guessed it. Lacrosse. Lacrosse is a growing sport in the U.S. It has been played for hundreds and hundreds of years, and yet, it is still not an official sport, it’s a club. Lacrosse should be made into an official, school sponsored sport. If lacrosse became a school sponsored sport, it would decrease the cost to play so that it is less expensive and more people would then play because of the affordability, allow the sport to continue to rapidly grow without the difficulty
Both teams are fighting for the win, only one point away, my adrenaline starts to run. I have adapted to live for the rush that comes with playing a sport. Volleyball has definitely been an outlet for me when it comes to school, family, and simply anything else. I have been on my high school volleyball team since freshman year. Although I loved playing, each year I struggled finding a balance between school and practice. I never let the struggle bring me down. I stayed committed to school and stayed on top on my assignments. I will admit there were times that i thought I couldn't do it anymore but i knew that to continue playing i needed to keep my grades up.
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)

As I walked onto the volleyball court, I noticed people were screaming and cheering all around me. They were all around me, and yet they all sounded strangely distant. I was nervous. I was worried that we might lose, but worst of all, I was worried that I might end up letting my teammates down. Negative thoughts continued filled my head and I drew closer and closer to my position. Once again, I found myself asking whether or not I truly belonged on this team. Now, this certainly was not the first time I questioned my place on the team, but little did I know that it would be the last.
Also containing leadership characteristics helps athletes with their social skills. Worsnop, Richard L. points out “there is a general agreement that the nation’s high schools have performed well as the farm system for college sports programs”. In other words team sports presents valuable life lessons and experiences within a group setting. There are endless situations that could take place between the teammates or with the opponents during the game. The fans or known as the community displays a huge part in the sports world and how they distribute their insight on it. Statistics have shown that “ High school teams command legions of devoted fans locally and nationally” (Worsnop). As shown the community is devoted to all types of sports and they see athletes representation and how they react in certain situations. Sports, a very popular past time today, have been around since ancient times. Greek Olympic Games featured events from chariot races, javelin throws, to wrestling. In addition, a game similar to soccer was played in China by the second century BC. In England, a violent rugby type game was even played to settle feuds between villages. With the development of the industrial revolution and the creation of the first public schools, sports decreased in violence and were played more recreationally and constructively. Basketball was invented to help the youth in New England spend their energy in the winter months. Since the early 1900’s sports have been a key experience in the United States (“History of Sports”). I have played sports for many years, and the experience has helped me grow significantly as an individual.
Throughout my early childhood, I went through several different phases. I practiced an abundance of different activities such as: dance, baseball, tumbling, gymnastics, and even baton. However, none of these sports or hobbies stuck. That is, until I discovered volleyball. Never have I felt the love for something as much as I did this sport. Volleyball has had an unimaginable impact on my life in so many ways. I would not be the person I am today if not for this sport.
