Throughout my early childhood, I went through several different phases. I practiced an abundance of different activities such as: dance, baseball, tumbling, gymnastics, and even baton. However, none of these sports or hobbies stuck. That is, until I discovered volleyball. Never have I felt the love for something as much as I did this sport. Volleyball has had an unimaginable impact on my life in so many ways. I would not be the person I am today if not for this sport. I remember my mom telling me throughout my life that I would make a great volleyball player, but I never gave it a second thought. Growing up, I had no interest in the sport. However, in September of 2013, the beginning of my 8th grade year, she forced me to go to a travel volleyball …show more content…
I met my two best friends through my club and high school teams. The first one, Candace, I met in 8th grade at the club volleyball Halloween party where she was Cookie Monster and I was a zombie volleyball player. We hit it off from there, but we did not become close friends until our first tournament where our moms had planned for us to all share a hotel room. Until then, we had just been teammates, but that first tournament changed my life. We found that we were meant to be best friends and we became inseparable. Her family also had a major impact on my life because they became my second family and I became their second daughter. My second-best friend, Tori, I met during the summer before my 9th grade year. My high school volleyball coach, Putman, introduced us to each other because we were the only freshmen there. While it was awkward at first since we were both new to high school, we very quickly became friends. We were the only two freshmen to make the Junior Varsity team, so we became very comfortable with each other since we were afraid of the upperclassmen. After the highs school season, she joined my travel club team and that is where became the closest we had ever been. I had my two best friends on my club team, and those two girls taught me so much about what it takes to have a healthy friendship. If not for volleyball I would have never met them, and my life would …show more content…
It seems strange that a simple sport can do so much to a person, but it is not just a simple sport. To an outsider it is just volleyball, but to a player it is love, commitment, and family. It is a way to connect with people who become people in your life that are unforgettable. I have spent the past five years playing this sport with many different girls and I watched them as they grew up and went on to college and other things in life, and now I am that girl. I am now a senior in high school playing volleyball for the last year and I could not imagine what my life would be like if I had never tried this
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
I can watch volleyball all day because of how much precision, aggression, and mental toughness is needed. Spectators may not always see that side of the sport, but as a player, I know that it takes more than just a powerful hit or serve to be successful. Slamming the ball down other teams’ throats or hitting someone in the face so hard that they fall over (my personal favorite) are great, but, unfortunately, they’re not always the smartest choice. It’s the technique and the years of acquired intelligence of the game that keep me engaged and coming back for more.
I looked in their faces and knew mine mirrored theirs. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Just ten minutes ago, we all were so jubilant. We were so sure we were going to win. We had all wanted it for so long, but we finally felt is as our destiny just a few moments ago. But as our opponent threw the ball in the air, I knew she was just about to serve another ace. However, when the ball landed three feet in front of our best passer, something snapped inside of me.
In the time it took me to actually love volleyball, I went through a vital journey
Volleyball is one of the biggest team sports there are. It is big in the summer olympics and all around the world men and women play it every day. The game of volleyball was originally called “mintonette”, it was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895 at Springfield College in Massachusetts, they made it along with basketball. My friends are very important to me and without them I do not think I would be where I am today. My second real friendship began in the middle of my freshman year of high school. I had been introduced to someone who later became one of my two best friends, Michelle Zabuska, by someone in my Theater class. Some time later, as a result to a major fight caused by a mutual friend of ours, I realized that I had to be careful with whom I trusted. It was Michelle who pointed out a quote from one of our favorite television shows, Felicity, that I realized she was my true friend in every aspect of the word. I started to look at my...
It helps to escape the stress of life, stress of school, and stress of family. When I play volleyball I forget about all the other problems I
Both teams are fighting for the win, only one point away, my adrenaline starts to run. I have adapted to live for the rush that comes with playing a sport. Volleyball has definitely been an outlet for me when it comes to school, family, and simply anything else. I have been on my high school volleyball team since freshman year. Although I loved playing, each year I struggled finding a balance between school and practice. I never let the struggle bring me down. I stayed committed to school and stayed on top on my assignments. I will admit there were times that i thought I couldn't do it anymore but i knew that to continue playing i needed to keep my grades up.
Institutions such as schools, community groups, sporting clubs, and religious groups are a part of this level and are able to help kids choose a sport and partaking in physical activity. Schools have had the most impact on my participation in volleyball as they made the sport a choice for inter-school sport and also an option in HPE. The school has not forced me to take place in volleyball, but they have made it easy and fun to participate in, making myself enjoy the sport so much that I watch the pros play it on TV. Without these influences, I would not have thought of playing volleyball for the school. (Author; Dr Ralph Richards; year of publication; N.A last updated; 7 September 2016; Title; Clearinghouse for
First and foremost, volleyball helps with how well a student can work with others. Throughout life it is required to work with others. Unlike basketball, one person cannot win a game for the team, it takes all six players to work together. The setter and the hitters have to talk to each other, the passers have to talk to each other, and the blockers have to talk it each other. Volleyball is like one big game of which team can communicate amongst themselves better.
I feel that the sport of volleyball is an important part in what helped me the most to obtain this wellness I have today. I have been playing volleyball ever since I was six years old. The minute the volleyball touched my
Once people start to learn how to play the game, they can become much more aware of their surroundings. Tennis not only requires one to watch the ball constantly, but also watch for other balls that may come onto the court. Playing tennis also requires the individual to practice. Similar with starting any new sport or club, many people are given the chance to meet new people who share something that they are both passionate about and can relate to. People are also given a chance to become more physically fit. Tennis requires many short sprints from one end of the court to the other, as well as constant conditioning to build up one’s strength, physically and mentally. Tennis can give many people the chance to become more physically active and expand their social life once they decide to incorporate it into their daily
This research task requires that, through participation in skill learning and game play during the volleyball unit we have been required to observe and analyse the characteristics of skilled performers; receive feedback on weaknesses in technique and develop and participate in training activities that could correct these weaknesses.
I had mixed feelings towards volleyball for a majority of the season. Earlier in the year I was chosen to be a floater meaning that I would play on both the
Branching off from our last article, the game of volleyball itself was invented in 1895, and almost at once it swept around the world; not only as an official sport, but also as a pastime that could be described as one of the “crazed” varieties. Well, it didn’t just stop there; volleyball eventually made its way outdoors, to the beach!
