Any form of schooling whether it is elementary or high school requires working with a group. This semester I was informed that one of our grades was a group project in which we had to present to our fellow classmates on our assigned topic. My group received a topic that asked if advertisement was informational or manipulative. We utilized certain skills that helped us slowly create our points and presentation; some of the skills used were planning, time management, and giving and receiving feedback.
In the beginning of the research process planning was a necessary component. Some of the aspects that were planned was finding our main topic, which outlet we were to focus on, and collecting research material. The first step of planning that was carried out was on what was the main topic we would speak about. Rian got manipulation on social media, Mary Kate received advertisement of the past, Jaqueline received the counterargument and refutations, and finally I received manipulation on television. As we slowly started to look for research materials Mary Kate assumed the position of group leader; she was very positive and when asked gave helpful feedback. As our plans were being put into action one of the most important skills that every person need was put to the test.

Every class period for English was used to form and perfect our presentation; time allocation was difficult to keep on schedule because I would get too focused on reading than actual inputting the information on to my slides or notes. Something that was beneficial to the whole group was that we kept each other on schedule; for example, I was indecisive on whether to include a certain article so Rian helped me by asking questions pertaining to my topic to see if it would be helpful to include. This showed that time management was easy to plan but to actually keep with it effort had to be
My experience an educational assistant has been both challenging and rewarding. For example, Some students were certainly challenging to work with as they gave off a hue of discomfort and disinterest. During one class period, I was tasked with helping a student finish his Algebra assignment that required him to solve for variables on a worksheet. The student did not understand the assignment and was clearly reluctant to complete it, despite already being late to turn it in. I was able to demonstrate patience by spending two whole block periods with the student while working on the assignment until he was able to grasp the concepts being taught. During this experience, I tried not to appear demanding or frustrated since I knew this would only discourage the student from trying. Instead, I
To be able to recognize things that will help the interdisciplinary team to collaborate and communicate with each other.
During the small group presentations there were a lot of good presentations, none of them were perfect, but still pretty good. This was very hard for me to chose my top 5, but this is what I think were the best starting from number five to number one.
The materials that the Group A participants will receive will include videos of petty crimes and traffic violations, photographs of crime scenes and arrests, and accounts of people who committed crimes and their explanations on why they did it. The materials will include information on various types of crimes from shoplifting and indecent exposure to armed robbery and first-degree murder. Several types of criminal offences and misdemeanors will be included as it is important to expose the participants to different types of crimes, specifically to the types of crime not encountered by the participants in everyday life, e.g. armed robbery, in order to establish how a prolonged exposure to the information on criminal activity and the accounts
The group couldn't seem to find time for us to meet and plan our presentation, the first and only time all group members were present to work on the presentation was on the morning of the presentation. We worked on it and at the time I believed we had agreed on our final product, I personally felt all the slides needed at this point was editing and final touches to make it visually appealing for the audience. I went online to the google presentation we were using as a group to prepare our presentation and was surprised to see a different layout, additional slides, and contents which were different from what we as a group had worked on and approved as the final work we were going to present. I confronted the group members as to the changes on the slides and we had a conflict of what our
Our group is relatively more task-oriented but also maintaining a good balance of social roles. Fortunately, there is no individualistic or hindering role existing in our group. Moses is a very good contributor of opinions and ideas when it comes to work, he often provide out-of-the-box information and give input to the project. On the social side, being a very comical person, he is also the harmonizer of the group in the way that he lightens up the atmosphere through humor. Joycelin, on the other hand, has a serious side, she have been a great summarizer, she is very clear about what we want to achieve for the final product of our group report, so she could see the big picture and always recommend appropriate direction for us to work on. Tricia, in my opinion, is a great standard setter and compromiser, she was exceptional at correcting the careless mistakes we have made in the report, and her gentle personality allowed her to help the group to find agreement most of the time. Lastly, my role is initiator and organizer. As I felt that my personal strength was in keeping the group organized around a time-managed schedule, and also setting a foundation for the actual report. With each of us having separate leadership qualities we were able to push and support one another to achieve balance in different areas. Because of this, there was no issue of power struggle within the group, as there were no high or low in status.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
Boy was this week a whirlwind! I was the group reader for both days. I was extremely lucky to have Dr. Weill in session 1 and Dr. Abendroth (if only y’all can whisper in my ear every session what needs to be done! Or not done!) in session 2 demonstrated what I should do. I felt that I learned a lot with this. I need to slow my pace in and interact with the children more. Also, the old lady tended to scare the kids. I also feel that I have been setting up joint attention better. On Wednesday’s session, I demonstrated turn taking and the appropriate schema for the sensory box. The sensory box was a massive hit! My client played with that for almost the entire individual session. I was able to build off with the sensory box.
Based on the small group that I joined in communication class, I will talk about what is working well and what is getting in the way in our group. Then I will discuss about what I can do to improve the group and the things about group project if there is a chance for a start over again. At last, I am also going to talk about what I think that I learned is an important lesson in this semester.
Everyone is different. We are all given unique personality traits and gifts to use in our daily lives to help us in the workplace. When we all get together in a group setting, it is important to know our own strengths and weaknesses and how they come together to make the group work. It is not always as easily said as it is done. There will be those in a group that have clashing personalities and don’t seem to want to agree on anything, much less work together to complete a given task. It is important to understand each other’s personality and for each individual to understand their own personality to make the group work more cohesively. God made everyone different, giving us each our own personal traits so that not one person can do everything
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
Group Research Project Reflection Essay Having more than one mind working on a project will improve the quality of the project because although some members of the group may miss an error or not think of an idea, another group member might catch the idea or error and fix the issue. Working in a group for the research project was a great learning experience and it definitely helped the project get done faster, have less errors, and it taught me about collaboration with others. One thing working in a group has taught me is that work gets done at a more rapid pace when more than one person is working on the project. My group had a total of 12 slides in our power point presentation which were split up evenly between group members.
Many adults and peers have had an influential impact on the person I am today. Without attending public school, I don’t believe I would have learned as much as I have about socializing with others and how to function in society. School gave me the opportunity to be part of a team in school sports and other school clubs. I learned how to work as a group, cheer and support team members. I was also lucky enough to be part of a student exchange program. This resulted in me learning how to live with another family, attend a new school, adapt to a whole new set of rules and expectations. In school, I learned and acquired more skills on how to function in large groups, respect other people, take turns, learn from others, have patience, cheer on others to succeed, comfort others when they needed it. I also learn how to talk to other adults that are not part of my family and saw how other adults should be
A group can be defined as ‘any number of people who (1) interact with one another; (2) are psychologically aware of one another and (3) perceive themselves to be a group’ (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Certain tasks can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisations can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. However, for the group to be successful, they must understand what is expected of them and have the right skills to complete the task. . Mullins, L, 2006.
In my experience and in this small group project I would be one of the more vocal people. By avoiding intimidating or shutting anyone out, it is important to have each person brain write to avoid any hesitation from others. In my current small group, we partake in electronic brainstorming. Each of us sat down at a computer and found articles that we thought was best fit to the solutions to the problem. After finding our articles we then posted them to google docs where we are now in the process of evaluating them. This makes it easier for everyone to find articles that connects to them. When we tired of thinking of new ideas we take a brake and talk about each other’s lives. I like to as all my groups what we plan on doing over the weekend and we also do it in our class when (Dr. Davis) asks us how our weekend was or even what is happening this weekend, giving us a break from thinking about school related items so we can start fresh. Brainstorming is important to do and is the best way to come up with the best
