care. I will incorporate good communication skills and listening skills when working with patients and staff to help promote a team that works well together and to provide quality patient care.
When delegating I will provide a clear description of the task and make sure that it is in the scope of practice and competence level of the person I am delegating the task to. I will watch for signs of conflict and if I notice a conflict starting I will address the matter quickly before it can escalate into a bigger problem this will help to keep my team running smoothly and keep the patient happy. I will use time management skills by prioritizing tasks and delegating tasks to others. By making sure my team members understand clinical guidelines and incorporate it into our practice, so that all of the team members and patients are able to make an informed decision about the patient medical treatment. Having my team members and I use evidence based practice to prove the most effective, safe and efficient care for our patient. I will implement this by creating a question related to the information needed for my patient’s care and needs. Then I will conduct research to gather the best evidence to answer my question regarding my patients care. Then I will evaluate the evidence for it validity, effectiveness and if it is appropriate for my patient and clinic. Then I will incorporate the evidence I gathered with my own clinical knowledge and patient’s preferences to provide the best
care for my patient. Then I will evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment to see if it is working or needs improvements. When problems arise, I will remain unbiased, and I will gather information and analyze the cause of the problem and determine the best solution to solve the problem by gathering evidence to back the solution. I will apply my critical thinking skills to my nursing practice by recognizing problems, asking questions, gathering evidence to support my answers and solutions, evaluate alternative solutions and communicating effectively with other find and implement the best solution for the best possible outcomes for the problem at hand. I will use technology to provide the best quality care for my patient and I will continue to keep up with new technology when it becomes available.
Nurses are key components in health care. Their role in today’s healthcare system goes beyond bedside care, making them the last line of defense to prevent negative patient outcomes (Sherwood & Zomorodi, 2014). As part of the interdisciplinary team, nurses have the responsibility to provide the safest care while maintaining quality. In order to meet this two healthcare system demands, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project defined six competencies to be used as a framework for future and current nurses (Sherwood & Zomorodi, 2014). These competencies cover all areas of nursing practice: patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality
The term interdisciplinary refers to situations in which various disciplines are involved in reaching a common goal with each contributing his or her specific expertise. Teamwork is essential to reach any set goals or objectives. Every team member should have specific characteristics and functions in order for the team to function properly. Collaboration is important to ensure quality in completion of the task. In health care an interdisciplinary team is a group of health care professionals from diverse fields who work in a coordinated fashion toward a common goal for the patient/client and the patient’s families. During the coordination of care we may come across barriers making the goals tougher to achieve. As health care professionals we
The demands on health care providers to provide the best quality care for patients is increasing. With added responsibilities and demands on our health care workers, it is hard not become overwhelmed and forget the reason and purpose of our profession. However, there is a way where all professionals can meet and come together for a common cause, which is the patient. A new approach in patient care is coming of age. This approach allows all health care professionals to collaborate and explore the roles of other professions in the hope of creating a successful health care team. This approach is referred to as the Interprofessional Collaboration Practice (IPC). To become an effective leader and follower, each professions will need to work together

The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN’s) goal is to prepare future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) that are needed to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which they work. QSEN focuses on six main competencies; patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. As we have learned in earlier classes these competencies and their KSAs offer a base to help us and other nurses as we continue our education and become RNs. As we will learn in this class these KSAs go hand in hand with health assessment.
Intro- Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team plays a big part in the care of a patient.
This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams.
The practice of using inter-professional teams in delivering care is not a new concept but current health policy requires professionals work within a multidisciplinary team Department of Health (2001) and entrenched in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2008) Code. The principle focus of this essay is to discuss the importance of inter-professional collaboration in delivering effective health care and what challenges and constraints exist. The integration of a case study will give an insight into inter-professional collaboration in practice.

Collaboration will lead to most effective decision making for patient care. Good communication skills and better resolution will lead to healthy work environment in order to develop better plan in patient care. Finkelman (2012) (Chp12)
Though I am highly focused on completing tasks as a student nurse, I do not believe that my preferred leadership style is a close resemblance of my current practice as a leader and nursing student. As a nursing student, I am focused on getting each task completed, but I believe I am equally supportive to my patients, my patient’s family, and my colleagues. I believe that I use the leadership style of coaching as a nursing student, especially while teaching the patient. I consult with the patient when making decisions about planning their care and provide a lot of support when they are attempting to complete the tasks. In this situation, I am equally focused on having my patients complete the tasks and being supportive of my patients as they complete those tasks. I am also an emotional support for my patients’ family and my colleagues as they perform tasks, such as making a difficult medical decision about their lo...
Additionally, the leader motivates, increases job satisfaction, involves the team in decision making, develops team members’ skills, and a role model (Kent, n.d.). The above descriptions fit my informal nursing leadership in the way I act in my practice. For example, I motivate the team to work together and collaboratively on delivering a safe and quality patient centered care thru the organization’s mission and vision. I set a role model on how, and effective communication is essential in relationships. Additionally, I encourage the team to continue their education, and I have demonstrated the last two years working with this organization, I have become certified in hospice and palliative care, preceptorship, and have enrolled in a nursing baccalaureate
(Become a Nurse Leader. n.d.). A nurse leader is someone who leads by example and helps their team meet goals by empowerment and healthy work environments. Continuing my education and working on my Bachelor of Science degree will help me attain my goal later in life, of being a nurse leader. Being a nurse leader involves lifelong learning and advancement. I believe treating others how you want to be treated is a good way to be successful in leadership. Everyone makes mistakes and it is how we learn from them that makes us a better person. I will be a nurse leader that is honest and encouraging. I will use personal experiences to relate to my team. I will adopt characteristics from various leadership styles to form my own. If the situation calls for a more autocratic role such as during an emergency or code, that is the style I will use. If the democratic or transformational approach is more appropriate, then that is the style I will lean towards.
In today’s society, leadership is a common yet useful trait used in every aspect of life and how we use this trait depends on our role. What defines leadership is when someone has the capability to lead an organization or a group of people. There are many examples that display a great sense of leadership such being an educator in health, a parent to their child, or even a nurse. In the medical field, leadership is highly used among nurses, doctors, nurse managers, director of nursing, and even the vice president of patient care services. Among the many positions in the nursing field, one who is a nurse manager shows great leadership. The reason why nurse manager plays an important role in patient care is because it is known to be the most difficult position. As a nurse manager, one must deal with many patient care issues, relationships with medical staff, staff concerns, supplies, as well as maintaining work-life balance. Also, a nurse manager represents leadership by being accountable for the many responsibilities he or she holds. Furthermore, this position is a collaborative yet vital role because they provide the connection between nursing staff and higher level superiors, as well as giving direction and organization to accomplish tasks and goals. In addition, nurse managers provide nurse-patient ratios and the amount of workload nursing staff has. It is their responsibility to make sure that nursing staff is productive and well balanced between their work and personal lives.
