Different Arrangements for the Letters in the Name Lucy
I am going to investigate the number of different arrangements for the
letters in the name LUCY
1 arrangement
LUCY
A different arrangement is:
LUYC
Another arrangement is:
LCUY
This combination consists of all the letters being different. I will
also try and find a formula for this arrangement, and number of
letters. Once I have discovered these formulae I am going to
investigate, other combinations of letters and different amounts of
letters. I will then try to discover a link between the formulae to
enable me to find a formula for the general case.

There are 24 different possibilities in this arrangement of 4 letters
all different. I have noticed that with Lucy beginning each different
letter. For example there are 6 arrangements with LUCY beginning with
L, and 6 beginning with u and so on 6*4(the amount of letters) gives
24. This means that all names with 4 different letters will have a
total of 24 different combinations.
I realised that the total number of combinations is the number of
letters multiplied by the previous number of combinations.
Name: Ian
Total number of letters: 3
Previous number of combinations: 2
3 X 2 = 6
Name: Lucy
----------
Total number of letters: 4
--------------------------
Previous number of combinations: 6
4 X 6 = 24
This means that I can work out the total number of combination by
factorial notation. Factorial notation is a number multiplied by the
previous consecutive numbers:
E.g. 5! = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 5! = 120.
Factorial notation is symbolised using an exclamation mark!
I realised this is because if I could find the total number of
“I think, with never-ending gratitude, that the young women of today do not and can never know at what price their right to free speech and to speak at all in public has been earned.” (www.doonething.org). Lucy Stone was born in West Brookfield, Massachusetts on August 13, 1818. Her parents, Francis Stone and Hannah Matthews, were abolitionists and Congregationalists. Stone retained their anti-slavery opinions but rejected the Congregationalist Church after it criticized abolitionists. Along with her anti-slavery attitude, Lucy Stone also pursued a higher education. She completed local schools at the age of sixteen and saved money until she could attend a term at Mount Holyoke Seminary five years later. In 1843, Stone enrolled at the Oberlin Collegiate Institute (later Oberlin College). With her graduation in 1847, she became the first Massachusetts woman to earn a bachelor’s degree. However, Lucy Stone was not done expressing her abolitionist and feminist beliefs to the public (anb.org).
The Western Religion text I chose to report on is The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Lewis’s mother died at age 9, which lead to atheism and immense amounts of reading and writing at an early age. The Screwtape Letters is comprised of 31 letters. They are written by an Uncle Screwtape, a senior devil, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior apprentice devil. Uncle Screwtape refers to his nephew as the “patient” because he is the person they are trying to turn away from Christianity. Throughout the beginning of the letter, Screwtape explains ways for Wormwood to draw the patient away from religion. Later letters show Uncle Screwtape critiquing and still teaching Wormwood how to effectively convert people away from Christianity.
Symbolism is strongly prevalent throughout Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. Some of the most important symbols in this novel are Pearl, the scaffold, and the scarlet A. These symbols are all entwined together because each object relates to the punishment and sin of Hester Prynne. Pearl is the consequence of an adulterous relationship and will constantly be a reminder of that sin, not only to Hester but also to the town as a whole. The scaffold is a hoary platform on which Hester had to stand to receive her punishment; however, each time the scaffold is shown, it provides for a different symbol. The scarlet letter is one last form of punishment that Hester must wear upon her chest so the whole town will know she has sinned. Throughout the novel the symbolic meaning of each object will change, providing an improved outlook on the characters and the sin itself. Nonetheless before understanding the novel, one must have a firm knowledge of a symbol.
The Maplewood Orphanage sat at the end of the road like a hungry cat in possession of a fresh kill. Dark windows blocked a view of its shady interior and reflected back only the peachy-blushed faces of Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore and the tall, lifeless forms of pyramid cypress lining the drive.
In times of cruel treatment and oppression women find courage in one another to persist. Mariam and Laila suffer as victims of patriarchal authority. Living under the unjust rule of the Taliban they are taught by society to suffer in silence. They are able to withstand this life by finding strength in one another in the toughest of times. Because of Rasheeds abuse the two develop a strong relationship that closely resembles a mother and daughter. Mariam realizes that like herself Laila is an outsider to society which became the foundation of their friendship. The impact of Mariam and Laila's relationship helped Mariam develop the courage to fight back against her abusive husband Rasheed. Mariam murdered Rasheed to protect Laila. But even though
In the novel, “The Girls with Seven Names” by Hyeonseo Lee, one can identify the adversity the author encounters, leaving North Korea and discovering the truth about her country. I characterize her as a courageous, smart, independent, and a survivor. Through her book, one can identify the corruption within the government, contrabands, the persistent fear over North Koreans, and importance of someone’s songbun. I really liked this novel because it reminded me of my mom’s experience leaving Guatemala and her experience in the United States.
Lucy Maud Montgomery - her pseudonym L.M. Montgomery - first published “Anne of Green Gables” in 1908, and it immediately gained tremendous success. Montgomery was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1847. She faced numerous hardships throughout her lifetime, one of which being that her mother died of tuberculosis when Lucy was just 21 months old; which, in turn, caused her father to place her into her maternal grandparent’s care. She eventually prospered, the publication of “Anne of Green Gables” brought her great success, with it translated into 36 different languages and more than 50 million copies sold worldwide.
Long ago a ancient tribes used the stars to identify different gods and goddesses. Depending on what constellation that was out at night depended on what offerings needed to be made. Like the lion constellation requires a big game offering such as elk or deer and how the libra constellation requires a equal offering of metal and gems.
Six items is the total number of items because the brain can better process it.
“When letters are put together, they can mean so much, and they can mean nothing at all,” said Nora Raleigh Baskin in her book Anything But Typical. There are 26 letters in the alphabet, and some people know exactly how to arrange them so that they mean so much. Words, sentences, quotes - can show you how to live, help you understand feelings, and can stay in your mind forever.
Getting a job in Hollywood, New York or any other fame central occupation location can be difficult, especially when everyone in the business tells you your dreams are impossible, but those dreams do become a reality for a lucky few. A prime example of this is singer/actress, Lea Michele. Lea made it her mission in life to prove wrong all those Hollywood casting directors and harsh media critics that say you have to look or act a certain way to be famous. She has cut right through all the negativity and risen to the top, showing the world that if you work hard and want it enough, you can be whatever you want to be.
After a grueling and torturous two months of preparing for the Remembrance Day assembly, we were then told to write a four page reflection on our experiences – while it was still “fresh in our minds.” Not one page, not two, but four. In fact, I got so disinterested while writing this, I began reading about Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 141st birthday, and this is coming from someone who has never even seen – let alone read – a copy of Anne of Green Gables.
The very first numbers were symbolized using simple tally marks. But as time went on, the number system became more complex. It evolved into a numeric decimal system based on the number ten because of our ten fingers. This system had symbols for a wide range of numbers starting at one and reaching up to one million. The system the Ancients used had no place-system and no number for zero. It also had no symbols for an equal sign, a plus sign, a minus sign, and so on. These attributes make this s...
