Background of the Study
Introduction
Coach’s leadership has become a major topic within sports organization which can ultimately lead to success. Leadership has been consistently defined, developed and cultivated over the last several decades explaining exactly what leadership is when the sports industry. Through different theories dating back over 70 years there has been six main schools of leadership theories (Turner & Muller, 2005). This list includes trait, behavioral, contingency, visionary, emotional, and competency all defining leadership in different ways. Studies have been completed examining leadership in youth, high school, college and professional sports but none recently have explored the college atmosphere of leadership through administration, coaches, and athletes all together. The study will also expand on success of the team and how ultimately different types of leadership can affect the organization success. Learning exactly what athletes, administration and coaches will help better understand the exact desires of all individuals working with coaches. Coach’s leadership will be extremely important to all three levels (administration, coaches, and players) for success of a team.
2. Sports is the best place to learn leadership and develop the necessary skills and traits
3. All three levels (administration, coaches, and players) will find it extremely important for coaches to have high confidence and motivation
4. Most individual will believe coaching leaders are able to develop the necessary skills to be successful within sports
5. The results will show most individual will favorite the transformational leadership style involving innovation, mentorship, empowerment, and creating goals and plans for the team/organization
