INTRODUCTION
Jack in the Box is an American fast food restaurant that first opened in San Diego, California in 1951. It’s owner, Robert Peterson, was a businessman who already operated other restaurants as well as a food-manufacturing facility that later became Foodmaker Inc., the parent company of Jack in the Box. An investment group converted Jack in the Box into a privately owned company in 1988, but it went public again in 1992 (JackInTheBoxInc.com, 2013). One year later, a devastating incident occurred that shook the entire company.
On January 13, 1993, there were a unusual amount of children being treated for the E. coli infection in the Seattle area. Jack in the Box was soon found responsible by the Washington State Health Department for the illnesses, as well as the deaths of three children. As soon as CEO Robert Nungent was made aware of the crisis, he took a number of steps to properly assess and manage the situation. His actions were a detrimental aspect of how Jack in the Box recovered from such a damaging experience. There was a number of communication strategies used to turn the crisis into a resolved conflict. The company also evaluated the needs of each stakeholder and took responsibility in satisfying them. Jack in the Box had a very proactive approach on handling the issues at hand.
In the following analysis, I will be focusing on the problems that occurred, how it was/could’ve been resolved, stakeholders that were involved and how crises can affect

If the seven questions that are part of Texas Instruments framework were utilized in the decision making process, I believe the actual decisions would’ve generally been made the same. When Nungent decided to pay the hospital costs for the ill, the action was legal, and it definitely complied with the company’s values. It wasn’t an action that would make him feel bad and if in the newspaper, it would’ve made him look genuine in his concern for the victims. It wasn’t a wrong decision to make, and the fact that they offered to pay for those seeking legal action as well as those who weren’t was a very strong thing to do.

This current year is the first time in United States history that Americans spent more money at restaurants and bars than in grocery stores. Our strategy for both Jack in the Box and Qdoba will help the company take advantage of this trend.
All these principles will be useful in the crisis. Be aware of hazards during the crisis. A person should be aware of client’s hands because if they have anything in their hands, there is a risk of getting hurt. Be aware of weapons/chemicals that are in easy reach of the clients. The purpose of this report is to assess BP’s crisis management and communication plan to primarily analyze the possible failures in their response through a gathering of secondary data collected from various sources such as online journals, newspaper articles, blogs and case studies.
A crisis can arise at any unexpected time. There is nothing worse than having a crisis that is completely unexpected of. One of the most important ideals for a crisis management role is to be prepared. If a company is unprepared in a time of crisis it can bring negatively-viewed perceptions their way (Schmidt, 2013, 16). Take Noah, for example. Noah built an Ark on dry land years before the flood, however, once the flood came he was safe and sound in the boat that people laughed at him for building. Noah was prepared (Edwards, 2013, 33). Too often, organizations are not prepared for a crisis and often times, this diminishes their reputation. This means that a company should never leave their reputation vulnerable to reproach, there should always be a crisis-communication plan intact. A crisis communication plan can help keep potential damage to a company’s reputation at a minimal (Stuart & Cohen, 2010). In fact, a survey conducted by the IABC reported that one in three companies would not be prepared if a crisis arises (Holland & Gill, 2006).
Over the years, growing attention has been paid to the ethical, environmental and social dimensions of business, most often under corporate social responsibility (CSR). Much of the early literature aimed to specify the concept and the various components of CSR, as it emerged in the second half of the 20th century (MINTZBERG, H., 1983). With the crisis being so current it gives us the opportunity to look at how it is being handled in real time. As I read through the articles and the remediation steps that have been taken so far, my first impression was the downplaying of the situation. Although, Mc Donald may have some tasty food, there are still many critics that think Mc Donald’s may have a lot of ethical issues and company violations. Some consider being ethical is simply defined as knowing the difference between what is considered good and evil. However, ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a person’s or group’s behavior, and the practices that violate them. The practices of unethical behaviors, by various fast food corporations, like McDonalds have become of great concern to our society.

The communication process is not something that begins when a crisis rears its ugly head rather it is a process that takes place in preparing for a crisis before it happens. While the term crisis represents a blanket term used to describe many situations, each situation is unique, thus presenting different obstacles to overcome. However, with a well-established advanced plan in place an organization places itself in a position to overcome and work around obstacles. Strategic Crisis Management is a collaborative effort that requires participation from all members of the organization (Porter-O’ Grady & Malloch, 2015). Furthermore, in Strategic Crisis Management, all members are empowered to identify and respond to crises that impact their ability to carryout the organizaitons mission (Porter-O’ Grady & Malloch, 2015).
