My reflection for this week on the Key Performance Indicators book by Bernard Marr. Sections five talks about employee perspective and section six is on corporate & social responsibility perspectives. I would have never thought of using key performance indicators to measure employee perspectives. I learned this is used more by the human resources managers that have a big responsibility to asses and evaluate the employees hired for their companies. The main goal for any company is to hire employees that will have a high return on investment. Many companies have realized that is not only important to make money, but to give back to society and to take care of our environment. It is about building CSR by respecting the environment, inspiring wellness, and positively impacting people into everything they do. It is about caring for their stakeholder sand focusing on efforts on ensuring that they do the right things in the right way to benefit both their stakeholders and shareholders. For example, a company can implement a global energy reduction program which can help reduce energy consumptions by ten percent, as well as similar water reduction programs. Other CSRs that can be measure are saving levels due to conservation and improvement efforts. Waste reduction rate is another very popular KPI being measure by many companies. This program is aimed to reduce the waste they produce. Every business is aiming to cut costs and reduce the impact of its business activities on the environment. The first metric will focus on their understanding how well their global factories are adapting to a more energy efficient system and determine whether or not the steps they are taking are adequate enough to determine success or failure. The second metric is focused on understanding their product’s ecological and environmental impact; essentially determining what type of waste is left through manufacturing and selling their products. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) invaded the corporate world over the last few decades. This concept has become an essential need for competitive advantage unlike its original role as a nicety. The companies have seen the business benefit of the initiative and stakeholders have appreciated the initiative. This has led to the wide application in the firm’s operational agenda.
There is an array of key components and factors involved in making an organization a successful business. One of those elements consists on evaluating employee’s performance; this sole component is critical in determining how effective is the organization’s productivity and which are the necessary steps to ensure proper functioning. “The performance appraisal may be one of the few times during the year where an employee and the reviewer, typically the employee's supervisor, can sit down and have a lengthy face-to-face discussion about all aspects of the job” (Joseph, 2016). It will be advantageous for the company if they can project themselves as responsible corporate citizen and an environment friendly company. Social enrichment schemes, recycling schemes and educational funds can be initiated to cater to this cause and long term goal.
A corporations CSR should be shaped in order to fit the goals of the corporation, although every corporation’s CSR should differ, since most have different goals and different communities behind them. The CSR should be molded into fitting the corporation’s goals in order to make it easier on the corporation in giving back to the community while achieving its goals. For example, a corporation located in a desert wishes to be more efficient, by reducing water usage it is not only creating lower costs, which result in higher revenue, but also helps the community by not taking up so much water. Taking this into consideration, it is critical that the corporation goals and values are established and clear throughout the corporation, they should be developed by the board or directors and CEO, and the highest managerial level should stress their importance to the rest of the corporation. By making the goals and values at the top branch of the corporate hierarchy, it will be simpler for the corporates community to develop in order to nurture those goals and values. Therefore, a corporation can reach the “shared-value,” a value for both its shareholders and community in a simpler manner that can result benefiting the corporation in the end as well. Throughout the article many examples are given of actual corporations that have benefited and changed their CSR in order to fit their goals, therefore, providing solid proof that these methods work. In the present market economy, social innovation should not replace Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) but should enhance it. Some scholars have shown that whereas innovation has been an integral part of a company’s survival it was not part of CSR (Carroll and Shabana, 2010). In the past, CSR was applied in areas of citizenship duties and operation licences; however, this is not sufficient in the modern complex business environment (Googins, 2013).

There are many purposes for this essay, the first purpose is to descried the key principles of corporate social responsibility and explain their importance for stakeholders. Secondly, is to show how far this company follows those principles in order to be accountable to at least three of its stakeholders. While the concept of an individual having responsibility is commonly recognized, modern views have lead to the emerging issue of corporate responsibility. Business Directory.com defines corporate social responsibility as, “A company’s sense of responsibility towards the community and environment (both ecological and social) in which it operates. Companies express this citizenship (1) through their waste and pollution reduction processes, (2) by contributing educational and social programs, and (3) by earning adequate returns on the employed resources.” But such a concept has been much disputed since at least the 1970’s.
Business organizations regularly run into demands from various stakeholders groups when conducting day-to-day business. These demands are generated from employees, customers, suppliers, community groups, governments, and shareholders. Thus, according to Goodpaster, any person or group of people that can shape or can be shaped by attainment of the objectives by an organization is considered a stakeholder. Most business organizations recognize and understand their responsibilities to these groups and endeavor to honor and fulfill them. These responsibilities are often communicated to the public by a statement of principles or beliefs.
