Newman and Madaus are focused on developing a sustainable organization, that being said, Millipore as an organization has the same views as Newman but the level of knowledge and commitment could be a bit questionable. Principally, the idea of sustainability is ingrained in both parties, although one party has a clearer view, their ideology on the subject are still on the same page. Though carbon offsets are an investment for a better future, Millipore would still have to create more sustainable programs for themselves to be considered as a sustainable organization. From my perspective buying carbon offsets would be like patching together a quick fix solution, it is the perfect example of low hanging fruit projects. Essentially, this is a way to kick off project but not a long-term solution, for Millipore purchasing carbon offsets is a start, but creating a change in behavior and finding other ways to create answers to solve the issue of sustainability would be the perfect future
A well-rounded education is very important and much supported. Two supporters are John Henry Newman and Paulo Freire. John Henry Newman was a professor at Oxford University and an Anglican minister that converted to Roman Catholicism and became a Pope. He delivered several lectures in Dublin, Ireland, about the importance of a Catholic education. These early lectures on education were revised and published in The Idea of a University. One of those lectures, “Knowledge Its Own End,” is about two distinct kinds of education (Austin, 53). Newman believed that there was a need for education purely for pleasure and education that is needed to pursue a specific career. Paulo Freire is a Brazilian literature professor and philosopher. A business should make sure its methods of production are not negatively affecting its employees and that all the people in the business are happy and willing to work. Also, a business should make sure that its methods of production are not producing any waste on land or water or air pollution, for these negatively affect society. A business that cares about it’s influence on the environment, and its consumers is bound to make a difference. For example: General Mills wants to reduce the amount of energy it uses. In order to do this, they had energy monitors installed into some of their equipment in one of their manufacturing plants. The result: General Mills saved around six hundred thousand dollars (James). Profit can be obtained faster by a business that is looked upon as a positive influence on the environment and its employees. Overall, a business should be careful about how it produces its products and think about society’s health before it makes a decision, for if it doesn’t, the liability for damage is a much greater price to

The first would be in the overall look of the product, does the product fulfill the needs of the market? Is it smaller, lighter, faster and more durable, these are many of the questions that are asked in determining if the design was a success? The next metric that the company will use to determine the success of the product design would be the size of the packaging. Does it show the equally quality of the product, also what the amount of shipped air is? The amount of shipped air is extremely important in not wasting resources. Over the past 2 years the team that I manage has been able to save Garmin approximately 450,000 dollars in modifying the packaging size and cost. Currently there are not any rewards or acknowledgement for individuals to successfully obtain sustainability for marketing. Looking ahead I have determined that there needs to be some type of acknowledgment for employees outside of the engineering departments that contribute to corporate sustainability. This strategy is to recognize the different departments that put in the effort to make the company as a whole sustainable. In order to do this I have drafted an outline of the process and procedure for packaging sustainability. By examining this process for the company I have determined that the largest take away is communication. Communication is crucial to ensuring that all the different
