Drink the Calories Away Every year, the average American drinks 56 gallons of soda. Many admit to drinking multiple cans a day. Some even admit they drink even more soda than water in a day. After many studies, it is proven that soda can be dangerous to your body. Even diet soda has proven that it can be even worse than regular soda. These lead to serious health hazards like diabetes and obesity. Soda is a highly manufactured and high calorie drink. When people decide to drink a soda it is because they are thirsty, and they enjoy the taste. The high sugar drink is filled with caffeine and sodium, which can cause the body to become extremely dehydrated, and in time could cause chronic dehydration. Soda has harsh chemicals inside to keep the soda tasting good and to keep it fresh longer. These calories lead to weight gain if not spent by exercise, but now that humans have the knowledge and technology to create various substances, there are artificial sweeteners that do not have calories at all and taste even sweeter than sucrose. Many Americans avoid sugar-sweetened drinks by drinking beverages filled with artificial sweeteners such as aspartame to avoid weight gain. I would try telling you something good about soda but there is absolutely nothing good about it, because it has no positives.

How healthful are these drinks, which provide a lot of sugars, calories and caffeine but no significant nutritional value? And what happens if you drink a lot of them at a very young age? Soda is a sweetened, carbonated, acidic, often caffeinated drink. Forty-five gallons of soda is consumed per person/per year by the average American. Even adults are just as vulnerable to tooth decay, from drinking excessive amounts of soda, even though they have good enamel and well calcified teeth.
First, the main ingredients in diet soda, and why they are so harmful. The main ingredients that are in diet soda are aspartame and saccharin. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener, and it is a protein produced from aspartic acid. Aspartame is used in any different foods and drinks because it is about 200 times sweeter than sugar, so that means much less of it can be used to give the same amount of sweetness. When aspartame is digested, it breaks down into aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol. These components are also used in a selection of foods such as milk, meat, dried beans, fruits and vegetables, but much greater amounts are used in diet soda. Another reason Aspartame is terrible for you is that when Aspartame gets to a certain temperature it is known as rat poison. They help lowers our metabolism that could give us less energy in our bodies which could end up making people sick.
