Why Soda is Bad for You
We already know soda is bad for you but why is it as bad as everyone says it is? A single can of soda contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar(Ten). Most Americans consume fifty-six gallons of soda alone in just a year. Now think about how many sodas it would take to make a gallon and how much sugar is in one soda. I would try telling you something good about soda but there is absolutely nothing good about it, because it has no positives.

Water is good for you and it’s in soda, that’s a positive right? Wrong! Even the water in soda is terrible for everyone because soda can be made as simple as using tap water which some companies use. First remember that the best things to drink are veggie and fruit juices, milk, coffee, and water. Second You don’t have to completely cut soda out, you just need to drink less frequently. Next if you must drink something fizzy try club soda with fresh fruit or Kombucha which is a drink naturally fizzy, sweet, has lots of vitamins, and can be made at home. Just keep in mind that you can still drink soda but try as little as you can you.

If I gave you a can of rat poison, would you drink it? What if I told you that every time you popped open a can of diet soda, that’s what you would be drinking? I’m sure some of you in here really enjoy diet soda, but still drink it because you don’t think the ingredients in the soda will ever harm you. Diet soda has many different ingredients which include some that are very bad for your health and can lead to death. Today we are all going to look at dangerous ingredients that are in diet soda, some of the side effects diet soda will cause, and some diseases and complications you may develop.
Reconsidering the use of Soda? What is a soft drink? As defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a soft drink is “a usually carbonated nonalcoholic beverage; especially soda pop” (“Soft Drink”). Why is it called this? Soft drinks are a term that differentiates from alcoholic drinks that are called non-alcoholic drinks.
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Economists from Emory University declare that soft drinks do not have a big impact on weight. The reason is that when untaxed, soft drinks only represent 7% of a soda drinker’s calorie intake.
Water makes up 75% of human body. It is the most important ingredient in our bodies. Today many people ignore drinking water and concentrate more into the carbonated drinks. One of the main reasons I would think people drink more carbonated drinks (such as sodas and sport drinks) is because of the way a company hype up their products and use their marketing strategies to influence people into buying them. Many benefits come out of drinking water. First, it quenches one’s thirst much better than any carbonated drinks. Second, it keeps one’s skin clear and healthy looking. In addition, it protects the human body from several diseases. Many people choose drinking sodas and sports drinks than water because water does not have much of a taste and carbonated drinks are flavored and tasteful. I guess I am one of those people who has being caught on to the hype of the soda companies. I do not really drink much water I would say I barely drink two cups a day, but I know the how good water is for my body. So I am modifying my behavior by adding more water to my diet.
Even before watching this video I felt the soda ban was a ridiculous idea. I felt the soda ban would be laden with many caveats and Casey Neistat’s video confirmed that notion. There are many other ways to promote an obesity rate reduction such as promoting healthier food options or making whole fresh foods more readily available, promoting more physical activity and the like.
The soda ban is a bad idea because there is no evidence it solves anything. In the argumentative article “Soda’s a Problem but…” by Karin Klein, she states “If people are so helpless against soda… people would simply buy two 16-ounce cups.” (Klein, 289) This evidence illustrates that if people wanted more soda they could easily get.
My three reasons are soda is not the only cause of obesity, soda tax and putting warning labels on our drinks defeats the purpose and has less impact on warning will have. I believe that sweet drinks shouldn't have labels on them because if you have too much of anything its bad for you. Soda is not the only reason people are obese.
