You pull into the drive thru at McDonalds and think to yourself “should I get a coke or stick with my diet and get a diet coke”; well if you actually look at the ingredients you would see that diet is not the way to go. Contrary to popular belief, the alternative drink is not really helpful for your diet after many years of research have shown. Although you would be saving calories, the drink does not provide any nutritional value whatsoever. Coke is now preferred over diet because it causes weight gain, deadly diseases, and many health problems.
Of course all coke, Pepsi’s, etc. cause you to gain weight, but with recent studies diet coke has actually caused drinkers to gain more weight than the average coke drinker. Since diet drinks have artificial sweeteners instead of regular sugar our bodies think that they are receiving regular sugars. The diet coke fool your body into thinking sugar is coming and your body pumps insulin, a fat storage hormone, which in the end causes consumers to have more belly fat than a regular coke drinker. Also, diet drinks confuse your body and its metabolism, and because of that you burn fewer calories than normal. In a study where rats were given diet coke and even after eating fewer calories, diet coke drinkers put on 14% more body fat than the rats that drank regular coke.
You never thought you would hear the word “deadly” and “diet coke” together, did you? According to an 11-year long Harvard Medical School study “more than 3,000 women, researchers found that diet cola is associated with a two-fold increased risk for kidney decline.

The article,“ Battle lines drawn over soda tax,” by Associated Press , the Press explains how there is an ongoing “national fight about taxing sugary drinks.” According to Associated Press, “ Health experts say the beverages contribute to health issues such as diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay.” This quote demonstrates that sugary drinks can lead to health issues. Since sugary drinks leads to health issues, people are considering soda tax. This is because thirteen percent of adult minorities are diagnosed with diseases such as diabetes.
Soechtig uses factual data and statistics to further prove the argument of the increasing rate in poor diet among most Americans. The data used puts into view of how large an issue American’s have on their hands. She provides an example of how much damage one drink can have on your body. She expresses that one soda increases the risk of obesity by 20% (Soechtig, 2014). By using this statistic, Soechtig demonstrates the impact sugar has on one’s health. The statistic challenges the people in the audience who believe the idea that “one won’t hurt.” The director is not criticizing those who drink soda, but does hope to encourage and persuade them to make a switch. Even right now, over half of the American

you are on the wrong path a 20 oz. serving of Coke contains 240 calories, compared with 200 calories in a 16oz. size; for people who drink a soda a day or a week, That can add up to 14,600 calories a year. So you can gain 4lbs of weight gain each year if you continue to drink 16oz. a day or even twice a week. There are companies that are mad about this because it can make their business bad and make others better because they can simply not sell 16oz. of soda to a individual but, they probably don’t even realize that each time they sell a product they are making them gain weight and making them unhealthy. These companies don’t care about your health they just care about making money and moving on while we are over here drinking and eating stuff that’s not good for

According to The World Health Organization, “Obesity is the imbalance between declining energy expenditure due to physical inactivity and high energy in the diet (excess calories whether from sugar, starches or fat) …. Increasing physical activity, in addition to reducing intakes of food high in fat and foods and drinks high in sugars, can prevent unhealthy weight gain” (Who). The World Health Organization has recognized that soda and other sugary drinks a...
In addition, the fast food industry’s main goal is to produce profit, and advertisements for unhealthy nutrition options flood schools, television, billboards, and multitudes of other outputs, all places where young children can view endorsements for fast food. Drawing a parallel between fast food and tobacco, Fed Up claims that soda resembles the cigarettes of the 21st century and that both of these toxins present many future health implications. While continuing to discuss long term effects of unhealthy food and eating habits, various scientific researchers and individuals share that up to “40% of non-obese people have metabolic diseases” (Fed Up). While not everyone may appear overweight or obese, they may have diabetes, heart related problems, high blood pressure, and/or numerous other health concerns. Overall, Stephanie Soechtig’s Fed Up discusses the issues of obesity and how private provide and special interests place themselves above public

Obesity can cause many illnesses, including diabetes, which is very common. As the debate over whether the soda tax should take effect arises, critics say that the tax will help those with obesity-related illnesses. What about exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle? These two factors cannot be forgotten, knowing they are the most important. Americans have consumed 12 percent of soda and become less active since 1970.
Based on the information and data collected through research the statement that soda has no nutritional benefits for the human body and causes harm, opposed to stating that soda has no negative effects to the body can be made. Soda is often a big part of a human’s diet. Therefore, the harmful effects of soda are occurring without people knowing soda is to blame and not having the knowledge of the illnesses that are linked to it.

Drinking Diet Coke leads to reduced calorie intake, which in turn, does not cause weight gain. The marketers of Coca Cola illustrate this in their most recent advertisement. Coca Cola 's "Regret Nothing" advertisement for Diet Coke presents a snapshot of two women who appear to be at a pool party. This is apparent because they are sitting on the side of a pool laughing as someone splashes them. The viewer can assume that the weather is warm and pleasant by the amount of skin that the girls ' dresses show and the fact that they are in a pool. It is evident that the two women are having a good time by their expressions. The marketing department of Coca Cola uses multiple visual aids to suggest that if an individual drinks Diet Coke, he or she
...man body, people should consume regular soda without the artificial sweeteners if there way no way to avoid soda at all. Nowadays, there are so many other ingredients than artificial sugars that cause harm to the human body, so it is extremely important to at least get rid of artificial sugar in your diet. Although many people skip the whole process of checking the ingredient label, It is important to check to make sure that they don’t contain any artificial sugars or any other harmful ingredients. There are many substitutes to avoid using processed sugars or artificial sweeteners, such as using raw honey or maple syrup in your food. The powerful food industry will not educate the general public on the risks of consuming the artificial sugars, so it is the responsibility of the consumers to be aware of what’s in their foods to find a path to a healthier lifestyle.
Coca-Cola is a well-known and cherished brand name. When people think of this name, memories tend to overflow in their heads. Why? Because, not only does Coke taste great and refresh your own personal memories, it also fills you with memories of the Coca-Cola like "Always Coca-Cola", the antics of the Coke polar bears, and all of the different ads that have represented Coke over the years. Just about every ad you see, as a consumer, will have tons of hidden meanings. Coca-Cola may not always intend to present the same hidden meanings, but will always intend for their audience to see a commercial and hopefully crave a Coke product. I found a Diet Coke ad that really caught my eye in the August issue of Southern Living, a magazine for women. The ad, titled High School Reunion, pictured four Coke bottles in a diagonal line. The first bottle, a new unopened Diet Coke bottle, is pictured at the top left-hand corner of the page. The next two Diet Coke bottles are supposedly being consumed. At the bottom right hand corner of the ad page you see the bottle is empty. This reveals the conversation of a young woman contemplating the plans for her high school reunion. Over all Coca-Cola is believed to put these claims, supports, and warrants in their ads to make their product more appealing to the consumer.
Have you ever thought how much soda you consume and how bad it can be for you? Many people will drink soda instead of water, simply because it tastes better. The government should limit the intake of sugary beverages because it can lead to many different problems such as heart disease, obesity, and overall it is an unhealthy life-style. “The average person consumes almost 100lbs of sugar a year, with the single biggest source being soda.” A sugary beverage occasionally would be ok, but drinking it every day would cause problems for you overtime. People drink, more soda than they do water. People should be consuming at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day. Mostly no one will drink that amount of water a day. In today’s society, it can be easy to grab a soda for one dollar and carry on. They may taste better but they are not better for your health. “Sugary drinks include soda, fruit punch, lemonade, and other “aides” sweetened powdered drinks, and sports energy drinks.”
