Ban Big Sodas This article is talking about a mayor banning beverages larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, sports arenas and movie theaters. The reason this mayor wants to ban large sodas is because he is afraid for all of New York’s health. That’s a good thing because a lot of us don’t know what we drink and eat most of the time. We just eat our food we don’t even bother to look what’s really in side such as calories, fats and oils in our food. This Mayor is doing New York a huge favor by banning large sodas. He’s helping everyone in New York about their health but people of New York doesn’t see that. There are people who are trying to not let him pass this law because some of them probably drink 16 oz. every day of once a week or twice a week or even more. New York’s City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who has a reputation for taking aggressive steps to improve city resident’s health. you are on the wrong path a 20 oz. serving of Coke contains 240 calories, compared with 200 calories in a 16oz. size; for people who drink a soda a day or a week, That can add up to 14,600 calories a year. So you can gain 4lbs of weight gain each year if you continue to drink 16oz. a day or even twice a week. There are companies that are mad about this because it can make their business bad and make others better because they can simply not sell 16oz. of soda to a individual but, they probably don’t even realize that each time they sell a product they are making them gain weight and making them unhealthy. These companies don’t care about your health they just care about making money and moving on while we are over here drinking and eating stuff that’s not good for
us. Mayor Michael Bloomberg is trying to help us not get fat or get diabetes, he’s just trying to help us get healthy. Mayor Bloomberg has noted that the ban doesn’t make people not drink the 16oz., but health officials hope that the inconvenience of doing so will curb consumption of sugar drinks. Drinking that much soda can interfere with your health and if you are working out and then you reward yourself with a 16o. Will not help at all you are probably just gaining all your weight back that you just lost from your workout. One member of the board, Dr. Sixto Caro, abstained, nothing, “I am still skeptical. This is not comprehensive enough,” the associated Press reported. There are people who don’t think this Ban of large sodas is going to work because of how many people drink 16oz. a day or twice a week those people don’t want to pass this ban because they probably think that 16oz. is cheap to begin with other then buying a pack of soda for more. Some people want to be unhealthy and eat and drink what they want and some others want to be healthy and not drink and eat unhealthy stuff that they don’t need. The city’s health board by a vote was 8 to 0 of banning 16oz. sodas because it can harm or even destroy businesses that can make people lose their jobs and have nothing to support them. The people who are healthy are healthy because they don’t drink 16oz. a day they drink water or Gatorade or other beverages that can make them healthy.
New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg tried to ban the sale of drinks with high sugar in containers bigger than 16 ounces, but this ban was opposed and halted, with the New York State Supreme Court judge ruling Bloomberg must go through city council and the board of health to institute the ban
Coke continuously out-stands Pepsi, even though they share a very similar taste and colour, however Coke should not be the drink that receives all the love and attention for what it offers. Despite their similar soda colour, the drinks actually contain some different ingredients, which produce a different taste, and affect the body differently. Furthermore, the way the companies markets their drinks makes a huge contribution to how successful their products will become. The major element for success however stems from their impact on society and how the companies utilize their social power to evolve. The two major soda companies are constantly head to head with one another, yet it is what they do that sets them apart.
In the past couple years people all around the nation, whether it's in New York City or an 8th Grade classroom in Michigan, people have been pressed with the question, whether the New York Soda Ban, is a good thing, improving health, or if there is a larger issue. Is this decision showing evidence of the Government interfering with our basic civil liberties?
The obesity epidemic is one of the most pressing issues at this point in both American society and U.S. public policy initiatives. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 35.9% of U.S. adults over the age of twenty are obese (CDC, 2013). The CDC further notes that 69.2% of U.S. adults twenty years of age and over are overweight (this percentage includes those who are obese). The obesity problem is not exclusive to the adults in the U.S. The CDC notes that 18.4% of adolescents between the ages of 12 and 19 are currently obese (CDC, 2013). These statistics illustrate the severity of the obesity epidemic in this country, but what can be done to address or even correct this problem? Many people have proposed solutions, but few are as radical as the proposal from Michael Bloomberg (the New York City Mayor) in 2012.
The article, Soda Consumption Does Not Equal Obesity, states that soda is not the only reason people are obese. When people are more active, they are less likely to have an obesity-related illness. Being active plays an important role because people are constantly burning fat, which makes it less likely for them to be overweight or obese. Economists from Emory University declare that soft drinks do not have a big impact on weight. The reason is that when untaxed, soft drinks only represent 7% of a soda drinker’s calorie intake.
Experiencing the death of a loved one is never easy, especially when the cause is something self-inflicted, such as cigarettes. Imagine if that loved one was your parent or even worse, your own child. Now, imagine watching the demise and physical incapacities that transpire while you see them deteriorate right in front of you. Feel the anger that would coarse through your veins if you were to see an add that glamorized such deadly instruments, particularly once you realize that the areas being marketed are lower class. Cigarettes are legal killers that cripple many individuals and families alike. They are a highly addictive substance that benefit no one. I am against cigarettes in every capacity as I have dealt with the effects of it on a personal level. Cigarettes leave a distaste in the mouth literally and figuratively. I am also a firm believer that
Tobacco smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals that are incredibly harmful to our bodies. It is simply unethical to allow one’s employees, patients, customers, clients, etc. to be exposed to secondhand smoke. Smoking not only decreases morale with frequent smoke breaks, it also causes a sharp decline in clientele or patients who prefer a smoke free environment, like pregnant women. As a community, we need to protect those who choose not to expose themselves to the number one preventable causes of death in the United States. Taking on a tobacco-free campus policy and refusing to hire smokers, supports the global cause to end tobacco use.
Surveys have shown that sugar-sweetened beverages are the primary source of added sugar in our diets. According to a Coca-Cola history website, the soft-drinks’ bottle sizes have been enlarged drastically over the past 40 years, basically meaning that we are drinking more soft drinks than ever. As an example, half of the population in the US consume sugary drinks every day, in which about 25 percent gain at least 200 calories from these drinks. Sugary drinks are also the top calorie source in teen’s diets, increasing the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart problems from an early stage. It is a significant factor that leads to obesity, so I believe resisting these sugary drinks and promoting healthier products could definitely assist the goal of elevating the number of a healthy
Would you drink something that is associated with health problems and even death? Well energy drinks are highly caffeinated beverages that many people have become depended on to get through certain things that need done. They are used to give individuals a quick energy boost to get things done. Today many people question how safe energy drinks really are for the quick energy they supply. In fact, a sixteen year old girl died of cardiac arrest just after ingesting an energy drink, while on vacation with friends. Almost everyone who enjoys drinking energy drinks, knows that high levels of caffeine are in these beverages, and they continue to drink the ignoring the risks. But some people are fine with the high levels of caffeine and just drink them because it makes them feel energized. They seem to accept the shocking circumstances because it helps them gets things done when they need the most energy. On the other hand, some people disagree and think that it is not only bad for individuals
Do you know what the most commonly used drug around the world is? It’s not cocaine nor marijuana, but surprisingly caffeine.
“Healthy eating” means eating a variety of foods that gives you the nutrients you need to maintain your health, feeling good with your health conditions, and having enough energy throughout the day (Nordqvist). A poor diet can cause harm a person’s daily life activities. Research from Eating Healthy Might Prove Too Expensive for Poor ABC News shows, that the price of eating healthy foods may be expensive to a family who earns a low-income. So, eating fast foods may be more convenient for them knowing that the prices are way less. However, everyone should make the effort to stop eating foods that will later on harm your health. As mentioned in the article “Healthy Eating”, “Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically
Have you ever thought how much soda you consume and how bad it can be for you? Many people will drink soda instead of water, simply because it tastes better. The government should limit the intake of sugary beverages because it can lead to many different problems such as heart disease, obesity, and overall it is an unhealthy life-style. “The average person consumes almost 100lbs of sugar a year, with the single biggest source being soda.” A sugary beverage occasionally would be ok, but drinking it every day would cause problems for you overtime. People drink, more soda than they do water. People should be consuming at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day. Mostly no one will drink that amount of water a day. In today’s society, it can be easy to grab a soda for one dollar and carry on. They may taste better but they are not better for your health. “Sugary drinks include soda, fruit punch, lemonade, and other “aides” sweetened powdered drinks, and sports energy drinks.”
Cigarettes are so addictive, so why are they still legal today? The effects of smoking on a person and around that person are so extreme and harmful that smoking should not be legal for anyone. It really amazes me why anybody would smoke and harm their body if they knew how bad it can harm their health, and potentially cause death. Not only is smoking just unhealthy, the bigger problem is that smoking can lead to death. Smoking should be made illegal since there are many negative and dangerous consequences such as secondhand, and thirdhand smoke related illnesses, health risks to the smoker, and health risks to people around the smoker. Although, if cigarettes were made illegal people that are employed by Cigarette industries would lose their

A big problem with junk foods is that satiation value of them is low, that means people need to eat a large amount of that unhealthy foods to feel full. So it is like eating a lot of poisons for a long time, what do you think the result will be on the health condition of the humans? Another problem of junk foods tend to replace other healthy foods; people who drink a lot of soda there is no room for healthy natural fruit juice in their stomach, people who are snacking on cookies, they’re not eating fruits and healthy vegetables (WebMD
