Being well groomed is important in many businesses as staff are a reflection of the company, this is very important when working in the public sector. As often you must meet clients and members of the public, in my case residents of Havering Council. As the business may be judged by external clients on their meeting with staff it is important that staff leave a good physical first impression. This may include smelling fresh and wearing office attire as to display professionalism. Being punctual creates a good first impression both to internal colleagues and external clients, in addition to this it increases the output, as, if everybody gets in on time (9, o’clock), then work can start from that point and more will be done than if half the team arrive at 10. If a member of staff is late back from break this can reduce the amount of time another staff may take. As such it is important that staff are punctual when returning from breaks as to be considerate. It is important that staff are polite to both colleagues and clients. When working with other colleagues especially from different departments it is important to encourage a positive working relationship, this is aided by being polite. When dealing with external customers it is important to not seem to be provoking to the client, in the department I work in, we deal with parking Penalty Charge Notices; as such it is important for staff to be polite and professional, as this tends to be a sensitive topic for many members of the public. It is important for staff to have a positive attitude towards work, if staff feel happy about the work they are set they are more likely to finish it efficiently, working efficiently is also important when working with others, if group work is approached with a positive attitude then staff are more likely to work
