Why is it so important to be on time to scheduled events, meetings, work, class, parties or any other event that you’re asked to attend? Many people ask this question every day, and today I have the opportunity to explain the significance of being on time and also some of the down falls of being late.
Punctuality is one of the key ways that we can positively brand ourselves. I say this because, being on time demonstrates that you are diligent and dependable. It also indicates that you honor your commitments and you can be trusted. Being on time not only shows that you have respect for other people and their time but that you care as much about their time as you do your own time. Being on time also sets a good example for others who look up to you or see you as a role model.

One of the common attributes of all successful people is that they view their time as a precious resource.
When you are late for appointments with people who value their time, you will have wasted one of their most valuable assets and there is a good chance they will view you as rude, irresponsible and disrespectful. Now is this how you want others, especially people who could possibly change your life for the better to view you? Not only should you make every effort to be on time for business-related appointments, but you should also do your very best to be on time for personal commitments.
Being punctual proves that you are reliable. It proves that you can be counted on to always reply on time or to submit work on time especially in a business setting. Being labelled as a reliable person or a reliable company in general builds trust and an unbreakable bond. It also could help build up your client base if you have a business of your own, as well as, give you a better reputation as an individual and as a
company. Tardiness or being casually late can ultimately affect your work schedule and cause you to stress and eventually cause frustration and possibly lead to termination of your position or job overall. For instance, you’re running late to work one morning and you don’t make it in until five minutes before a nine o clock meeting. You now have to move that nine o clock meeting to a nine thirty meeting. Which will then have to be rushed because you have to prepare for your scheduled ten o clock meeting. Along with the stress of rushing and possibly not getting everything out at your nine thirty meeting, your boss wants to talk to you because some very important people who were actually early for the nine o clock meeting left because they felt disrespected. Now your boss is upset and terminates you because of your lack of punctuality. Couldn’t this all be avoided? So now let’s do a recap of everything. I expressed to you how being on time affects the way people view you as a person in the business world and outside the business world. I also showed what could possibly happen if you’re late in a real life situation. Now with all that being said, can you now see why it’s important to be on time?
Punctuality is another thing that I have learned in NJROTC, but with much hard work did I learn this. We all know that we slip up sometimes and slag around from class to class. Because of this we make ourselves late sometimes, and no one wants to get a tardy, so our instructors offer a healthy alternative. If you are late to class then you have the option of doing push-ups or getting a tardy, now witch would you rather do? Not only does this punishment instill punctuality, but if you are hard headed you can build up incredible upper body strength. Being punctual to a job will allow me to keep it and also impress my bosses.

The importance of being on time in the military (or anywhere at all), is simply a symptom of discipline, which was instilled in new enlisted soldiers during basic training. Being on time shows reliability. We have to show discipline, responsibility, show care through following military rules and regulations. Being on time not only pertains to accountability, but shows respect to our fellow soldiers, our unit, command and organization as a whole. Being on time also will avoid any disciplinary actions that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Being on time may have a greater importance and effect, than we may know. Being on time enables us to be able to trust and rely on each other in life and death situations. Last but not least, it shows that we will be able and ready to capitalize on our capabilities to complete our missions. It is not acceptable to be late (except when involving safety limitations), because missions and operations are interlocking pieces that must function together as a whole in order for it to work in a timely manner. All successful and respective people all have one common attribute, and this is knowing and exhibiting the importance of being on time.
There are many ways to improve managing your time wisely and be accountable for it. The first step of improving your time wisely is to have a good rest the day before. By doing this you will have enough energy to last you the next following day. Also, sleeping late is not a good way of time management. Sleeping late will only result to not waking up on time and where you have to be. Sleeping will help both our body and mind to recover from the day’s activities. It affects people in many different ways like making the teacher go back and grade something she already graded, and another is in this incident it almost made the class take a test.

It is very important to be on time because accountability is everything. I suppose no one is ever late but if they are typing an essay will make them never late again. But on topic being on time shows that you are trust worthy and you can be depended upon. If we were actually deployed in a combat zone you would only want people by your side that you trust. You want to be on time because if you’re late it can mess up people’s schedules. The values I believed to be my strengths are my weaknesses. Time management assessment score was 64, which is an ineffective use of time management. I cannot agree to anything less; I have poor time management in my personal and professional life. In reference to my personal life, my sister told me I would be late to my own funeral and she would tell everyone to be patience because I was never on time. I hope it was joke; although I am late arriving to different destinations. It seems as if it is meant for me to arrive to places late; for instance, my therapist would have me waiting for at least ten minutes after the schedule appointment time. I am lost for why people make appointments and do not follow them. On the other hand, I arrive to work just on time; yet I do things at the last minute to meet deadlines. For example, I have to complete attendances and meal counts everyday showing the times the children attended, plus the meals they ate. Our school close 6:00p.m and I always wait until 5:00p.m to complete the task. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.
