What does socio-legal mean?
Socio-legal is the combination of social and legal factors, mainly looking at the relationship between law and society . In this project, as law students, we must use our legal knowledge and skills in order to work well as a team to plan and carry out events for schools and colleges. The socio-legal role is to use our knowledge and expertise as law students and put them in to action by planning and undertaking successful events. This can be done in a variety of ways, but the main function is to be able to work well as a team/committee in order to gain the best outcome. Dr. Meredith Belbin is famously known for his team role theory where he looks at the different types of people and how they are effective in working in groups/teams. By looking at Dr. Belbin’s research and theory, I can come to a conclusion as to what is needed in order to work effectively as a team.
What is required in order to gain success as a team?
There isn’t much that is needed to gain success as a team. As long as everyone is on the same page, and focuses towards wanting the same end result, it is very easy to gain success. Some of these features include: Shared Goals, Productivity, Understanding the different roles, Good communication, Personal growth and recognition, Team spirit and mutual respect and Staying open to ‘outsiders’. When all, if not most, of these features taken into account, it makes it very easy to gain a successful team as well as gain a successful outcome. Below I have listed each feature with what they mean.

From the author’s perspective there are certain factors needed to build a strong team to overcome the obstacles the team faces. Davis, the author, thought that one of the factors necessary to build a strong team is to have a leader who can motivate the team to do their best. ... that areas of expertise can be exploited, different people are good at different things. Groups can discuss material, and that discussion can improve the quality of the decision. Groups are less likely to suffer from judgmental biases that individuals have when they make decisions. People are more likely to follow through on decisions made by groups that they are connected to. Also, more monumental decisions can be made in groups, because one member will not be singled out for blame, making the entire group responsible.

When reading the book The Goal written by Eliyahu Goldratt, there were many lessons that I learned in order to have a clear and concise understanding of a positive level of productivity in a company. To have a positive level of productivity there are may components that are taken into consideration. Understanding what it actually means to be productive and how to increase the level of productivity by knowing the actual goal of the company that is trying to be reached and the components that go into the process of being productive. There are many factors that contribute to the level of productivity and being able to identify these factors is the key ingredient to having a successful level of productivity.

In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
The components of a good team should be considered. First, a high-performance team must have strong core values to guide attitudes and behavior consistent with the team's purpose. The members should know why the team is created and why he or she is on the team. Secondly, a team should have specific performance objectives. Members should know exactly what they are trying to accomplish. This also includes having standards for measuring results and ways of obtaining performance feedback. A good team will make members realize the importance of collective efforts. Third, a high-performance team has the right mix of skills. These involve technical, interpersonal, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. No one needs to know how to do it all, but each member should be able to contribute to the group....
Good team cohesion will increase chances of successfully completing the goal with high performance. The team will trust each other and support. This would make work faster and more effective.
Law is a tool in society as it helps to maintain social control, promoting social justice. The way law functions in society and its social institution provide a mechanism for solutions. There are many different theories of the function of law in relation to society in considering the insight they bring to different socio-legal and criminological problems. In the discussion of law’s role in social theory, Leon Petrażycki and Eugen Ehrlich share similar beliefs in the jurisprudence of society. They focused their work on the experience of individuals in establishing meaning in their legal relations with others based on the question of what it means to be a participant in law. Jürgen Habermas presents a relationship between law and morality. Bradshaw para. Therefore, the individual can still attain high job productivity without having the satisfaction in their field of work. This happens when money is just their motivation, or if they’re trying to receive a promotion. Others try to increase their productivity due to just the satisfaction they obtain from their work.
Substantive and Procedural Law – Substantive laws are the social rights and duties of people, and procedural law are guidelines through which government bodies or courts deal with breaches in substantive law. E.g. substantive law would state that hitting someone with a car and driving off is a crime, while procedural law would define how the courts could try and sentence in the case.
Many businesses place an emphasis on the importance of teamwork. A good team consists of people with different skills, abilities and characters. A successful team is able to blend these differences together to enable the organisation to achieve its desired objectives.
