The Strong Interest Inventory is a popular career assessment tool used across the counseling profession. The Strong Interest Inventory is an assessment tool used by individuals to help them define their interest and possible direction of their education and career path. Not only does the Strong Interest Inventory help explore the education, career, and leisure activities of an individual, it also focuses on three areas such as the Basic Interest Scales, General Occupational Themes, and Occupational Scales of that individual (Whiston, 2017). These areas are broken down into categories such as social, investigate, realistic artistic, entrepreneurial and conventional (Whiston, 2017).

When given my strong interest inventory results, I wasn’t all that surprised to find that my general interest code is a CAI, it seemed to reflect my interests rather well. What did surprise me about my general interest code was that, according to our presenter, it was rare. According to the information we covered in class, the six personality themes can be placed around a hexagon, similar interest themes as neighboring one another, and “opposite” interest themes across from each other. The odd thing about the interest code CAI, is that its two leading interests are in some ways opposite from each other, making it inconsistent. Although this result may be irregular, upon further reading about the personality types it makes sense to me, and even is reflected in my interests, Artistic and Conventional.
I had the opportunity to take the 16 Careers Cluster Inventory. I found the assessment very easy to take. As well, I found the inventory easy to score. My results of the assessment indicated my top three career areas were: 1. Educational and Training, 2. Health Sciences, and 3 had a three way tie between Human Services, Hospitality, and Law enforcement. I found the assessment to be dead on. Based upon the past personality inventories that I have taken I found the suggested areas very appropriate. One of the appealing aspects of the inventory was the easy of taking it! It seemed to gather accurate information without being overly pathological and test-driven.
When you think of the film Goodwill Hunting the first thing to come to mind is a Cinderella story. A story that shows a boy starting at the bottom and making it all the way to the top through events of change. This is not the case if you keep looking for the deeper meaning because Goodwill Hunting is not a coming of age tale it is a story of real events. Will does not wake up one day and his life is totally changed, he has to go out and change who he is in order to grow up. He is not gifted money or opportunity instead he must use what he has and make something for himself. These characteristics of the film are what make it different from every other coming of age tale.

The Strong Interest Inventory Survey is used for people who are assessing a career. The survey can help you decide on a career that best fits you, especially if you are unsure of what job you would like to do. The test then asks for questions about yourself, and how you are as a person. Once it gathers the data about you, it processes the information to give you 6 results: Realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. Whatever one that you scored the highest is the one that best suits you, and what career you should look into.
When reading through the strong interest inventory result I found it interesting, as well as, eye opening in some aspects. My theme code is that of SER, which stands for social, enterprising, and realistic. I feel as though all three of these themes describe me and how I see myself, because while looking at the values, interests, skills, and activities that are with associated with each theme I relate mainly with that of SER.
I took several assessments on Kuder Journey. These assessments are designed to help ascertain individual career interests, work values, and skill confidence. The Personal Styles Inventory (PSI-120) was developed with the purpose of assessing individual behaviors in both clinical and nonclinical settings. It measures your overall personality as well as your personality in specific areas of your life (Educational & Psychological Consultants, Inc.). Counselors can use the PSI-120 in career counseling, general counseling and organizational consultation services to identify any areas which may require attention. Counseling applications as discussed in Personal Styles Inventory by Kunce, Cope, and Newton, are: enhancing self-awareness, identifying sources of stress, counseling about careers, understanding interpersonal relations, providing consultation, and individualizing interventions (Kunce, Cope, & Newton, 1991). This test is intended for adults aged 16 and up and measures three major aspects of personality: emotions, action, and thinking (Medway & Smith, 1999). The PSI has scales to measure eight emotional styles, eight activity styles, and eight cognitive styles. This test can be used in individual or group settings.

According to Strong Interest Inventory, it reveals that my personal values and potential skills can be a strong fit for law enforcement occupation. My highest personal preference is working with people, learn by doing, lead by taking charge, taking risks, and enjoy participating in teams. Working with others enhances my interpersonal skills that can help me make quick and decisions in any circumstances.
