When given my strong interest inventory results, I wasn’t all that surprised to find that my general interest code is a CAI, it seemed to reflect my interests rather well. What did surprise me about my general interest code was that, according to our presenter, it was rare. According to the information we covered in class, the six personality themes can be placed around a hexagon, similar interest themes as neighboring one another, and “opposite” interest themes across from each other. The odd thing about the interest code CAI, is that its two leading interests are in some ways opposite from each other, making it inconsistent. Although this result may be irregular, upon further reading about the personality types it makes sense to me, and even is reflected in my interests, Artistic and Conventional. …show more content…
Each of these reflects some aspect of my personality or my daily activities. For instance, I am currently learning how to play the piano and other forms of music and enjoy getting feedback; this could be considered a form of Performing Arts, as well as my participation in church and school-based chorus throughout the years. Additionally I combine my love of Visual Arts and Programming to create small video games or mess with websites for fun. As far as Mechanics & Construction go, fixing broken devices around my house before they were thrown away was something that I used to do, but haven’t for awhile. This leaves only one interest area almost completely unused, Office Management. I would consider this a work-based interest, and a lifestyle choice of sorts: I like having things organized and efficient. My current job, however, is as a team member, and it is not in my responsibilities to organize items or people, so therefore, this interest goes unused in my
My hobbies are watching or playing different sporting events. I enjoy mentoring the youth and working with them to develop skills that they can care with them throughout life. I love giving back to the less fortunate
I then added my extra circulars such as Habitat for Humanity meeting which I then labeled as work-job due to the fact of that its a really meaningful activity and makes me want to do it because it’s something that externally motivates me. Then I added leisure work for studying, laundry and free time because they are both internally and externally rewarding. Studying externally gives the rewards of grades and giving the idea that tests will go well but it also internally rewards because it creates the feeling of satisfaction and confidence in classes. Laundry gives internally and external rewards because the external reward is having clothes to wear and the internal reward is having the feeling that I actually have myself together. That I'm doing my laundry on my own which creates satisfaction. I completed my chart with the addition of pure leisure. Economically, since I live in a dorm, the cost of laundry is discounted and therefore a smaller toll on my IU bank account. I labeled watching television, hanging out with my friends and lunch as pure leisure. They are pure leisure because it’s an activity that is continuous and does not
Although I am a fairly well-rounded student outside of school, I focus on the passions I am adept at: art and music. Creativity and thinking outside the box are skills that I have possessed and have developed over the years. It gives me great joy when I use my artistic and musical talents for the benefit of others, such as playing the piano and violin at a dinner honoring senior citizens or drawing pictures for young children at a Bible camp. Their smiles in appreciation of my service are priceless. My drive for excellence in my passions show that I give one hundred percent in all that I
Though I have a number of intellectual interests, three of them are particularly conspicuous: politics, economics, and technology. These interest both excite my curiosity while teaching me lessons that will prove useful for me in life.
Personality is defined to be a dynamic organization of psychophysical systems that create a person’s characteristic pattern of behavior, thoughts, and feelings (Carver & Scheier, 2012). The goal of the psychological field of personality is to explain how and why people are different from one another. This field began with Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic Perspective; this perspective was founded on the premise that he believed that things hidden deep in a person’s unconscious could be revealed in a person’s daily acts such as dreams, free association, and slips of the tongue. Following Freud’s theory, a number of other theories were proposed in the attempt to explain the phenomenon of why people are all so different. Among these theorists were big names such as: Erik Erikson, Alfred Adler, Abraham Maslow, Carl Jung, Hans Eysenck, and Karen Horney. All of these theorists made grand attempts to explain the different patterns of personality and how they are formed. One trait that has gained much attention from psychologists and has been studied under a various number of perspectives is the character trait of curiosity. Curiosity is commonly viewed as the eagerness to learn about the unknown. This trait can have many effects on one’s life and behaviors. The trait of curiosity is typically seen as a combination of both a positive and negative aspect of one’s personality, depending on the situation in which it is observed. For example, a curious person may be very inquisitive and ask numerous questions on a daily basis. In this situation, curiosity is viewed as an annoyance and something that proves one’s incompetence. Another possibility is for a curious person to research multiple aspects of life and become very well-knowledgeable in m...
My present interest in art is more graphic/typography based, although I do enjoy all areas of art. I have been designing graphics on my computers from a young age and have work published in national magazines. Not all the graphical work I do is computer based, I enjoy using traditional mediums in a clean graphical way, as I find it more satisfying working on a larger scale and producing something more "real". My current course has helped me "branch out" more; I have experimented in many disciplines successfully producing paintings, pastels and drawings, which I had never really developed fully before.
A person’s personality has been the subject of psychological scrutiny for many years. Psychologists have drawn up several theories in an attempt to accurately predict and determine one’s personality. Foremost amongst these, is the “Big Five Trait Theory” which stemmed from Raymond B. Cattell’s theory.
Trait theory is the idea that an individual’s personality is made up by many traits or characteristics that cause the individual to behave in one manner or another. One can easily see how curiosity fits into the trait theory. It is almost unanimously agreed upon that it is in fact a trait and is the motivator for countless actions people make every day.
of landscape architecture. This field interest me for several reasons. First, I have always liked to draw and design and growing up I always wanted to be an architect or engineer. I felt that engineering put too many limitations on creativity, so architecture was the path of choice. Then, after working with my father’s small business for the past 6 doing some landscaping and lawn care, I decided that since I enjoyed working with plants and landscaping that I might want to look into a profession that would allow me to continue to work in those areas. Landscape architecture seemed to be the next logical choice, allowing me to continue being involved in the landscape industry and also to work much like I would in the field of architecture.
Personality is massive part of an individual’s identity. Our personalities dictate our patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting. An individual’s personality exposes them to predispositions and habits that influence their actions and lives. Early on, personality assessments consisted of physical features ranging from head shape and facial characteristics to body type. In today’s world, personality assessments are mainly based around traits. Traits are simply descriptions of one’s habitual patterns of behavior, thought and emotion. The most popular personality assessment is the Five-Factor Model, also known as The Big Five. This model allows us to describe people based on the five main traits/dimensions. These traits are extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Each of these five traits measures a different aspect of one’s personality. Extraversion is based on one’s level of engagement with the world,
Graphic design has the power to change the way we perceive the world and this is where my passion stems from. I have always had a fascination with visuals and the creative process, graphic design has given me an outlet to pursue this passion. Graphic design to me is essentially a language for living, its not only used to communicate an idea but to make peoples lives easier and I love that I can contribute towards that. I get an immense amount of gratification from developing an idea to its full potential through aspects such as advertising, packaging, branding and visualisation.
Art Education is the perfect major for me because I have a passion for educating. Luckily in high school I have had a good amount of experience educating others. First off I have had the opportunity to teach my school news channel. In this role I teach the students what a good product looks like and the ways to produce a newscast. I enjoy every minute that I spend informing the
Once I completed the worksheet comparing my income coming in to the expenses going out. The summarization of my findings showed that at the end of the month our income together usually exceed our expenses of roughly about $350.00 give or take another 100.00 due to expenses fluctuating with us having young children. Do I think this is enough of course “not” with the potential challenges we face on a daily basis having young kids and the majority of our expenses tied into debt payments one unfavorable incident could potentially put us in some unfortunate circumstances! I often wonder about the potential of a scenario like that playing out, not to mention in my younger days I experienced those troubles and learned some costly lessons behind
