Therefore, I was exposed to many different things surrounding this wonderful fraternity. However, I still never knew what it was I just always admired the bond that my father shared with the guys he called his fraternity brother. It was not until my older cousin that I looked up to cross into the Kappa brotherhood when I really started to understand somewhat. When I got to college, is when I started to take an interest in joining a fraternity. That's pretty much all everyone talked about was joining a fraternity or sorority. Many of my friends took an interest and some of the other fraternity. Mainly because how active they were around campus and how live their parties were. But for me it's was much more than that. I had the privilege of growing up around Kappa’s by attending many events with my father such as tailgates, Kappa Balls, as well as many different types of meetings. So I had the honor of seeing more than what my friends saw. And what I saw was a friendship unlike any other, built out of loyalty, respect and love. And true enough, there are many other fraternity with similar characteristic. However, to me it nothing like Kappa. Just seeing my father love for Kappa is overwhelming it’s nothing he won't do for his brothers. When we are out eating and he see younger brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He pays for their meals and although that may not seem like a lot to some people. I’m like wow he doesn’t even know them but that is was just
While reading Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, I learned more about the inner workings of Greek Life. I learned that the odds of me finding a sorority are so slim due to my independent and different personality. While I am not good at sticking up for myself, something this book has made me feel is crucial to blend in and conform to an ideal to fit into a sorority, I am too opinionated. There are not many sororities (at least shown in Pledged) that welcome girls who are different, preferring to stay similar. For example, each pledge class would soon like identical within a few months of pledging. Another thing I learned about is the careful planning and manipulation that occurs throughout sororities,
I am interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi because I wish to be a part of l ink minded people striving for academic and professional success. In addition, I would love to be a part of a family that will support me in all aspects of my life.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. was founded January 13, 1913 at Howard University by 22 Undergraduates. These 22 women were members of an organization known as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated., but branched off because of different views. The founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. wanted more than a social organization and was interested in making the sorority more political. Scholastic and political activism was important to the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The first political act the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. participated in was the Women’s Suffrage March. The Women’s Suffrage March was a march that occurred in Washington D.C. because Women were not
The first story I would pitch would be the monument opening today at 10 a.m. at the National Infantry Museum. This is black history month and the Buffalo Soldiers were the first all-black infantry. The monument will be unveiled today. Alpha Phi Alpha’s local chapter Delta Iota Lambda is honoring the heroic group of soldiers. Most of the units served between 1866 and 1951. The event is free and open to the public, which will allow them to witness history. Some of the units were stationed at Fort Benning, which is another local aspect. These soldiers did the impossible, so I can speak to the Master of Ceremonies, as well as local historians, military members, and decedents of those brave men who will be at the unveiling. The visuals could start with the American flag as an open. If the
I believe the biggest skill that I possess that will maintain Alpha Kappa Alpha’s status is the desire to help. As a sorority that holds service at a high standard, I believe having that drive to help in
I have gained access to this community through pledgeship in Sigma Chi, one the most prestigious fraternities in the nation, with the hopes of becoming a brother. Even though I have access to this community I know very little because I am so new. Through my research, I have learned and discovered the intricacies and deeper understandings of not just Sigma
It brings me great displeasure to write this appeal due to the circumstances of my unwarranted suspension from a fraternity I hold dear to my heart. I became a member of the fall 2015 class falling in love with both my brothers and the fraternity. The past year I formed an unbreakable bond and accumulated numeral unforgettable experiences. I even got the pleasure to read The Phoenix and enjoy the beautiful and adventurous history of our fraternity. This all came to a shattering halt when the alumni of the ILBE Chapter persecuted for violating our Membership Agreement.
A relevant leadership role that I have had in the past several years was, that last spring I helped out with the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity’s Fratagonia event. This event is a charity that donates all proceeds to the ALS Foundation. This was a planned event that was supposed to play out very smoothly, until it didn’t. I was put in to a position, even though it was not my event, to step up and help lead this event towards a successful out come. First, the food was not delivered on time and lunch had to be pushed back. I had two friends drive over to the restaurant that we had ordered from and have them pick it up and not wait for delivery. Next, one of the big item we had booked for this event was a dunk tank. Unfortunately, no one was
This essay is just a brief summary of why I desire to be an Alpha man and the contributions I will bring to Alpha Phi Alpha. As previously stated my fully expounded upon desires would greatly exceed the limits of this essay, so if I had K.I.S.S it into just three words, I would choose; learn, grow, and share. However, I am strong believer of deeds over words, so this essay will serve only as mental fodder and the main course will come in the form of my actions.
Our daily lives involve making decisions. One of the many decisions that have been made by many people is when they decide to join a certain fraternity. This happens mostly to students in the higher learning institutions when they are joining. After joining the fraternity, they then make some judgments as to whether they had made a right or the wrong decision. One of the people who was pleased with his decision is Peter Jacobs in his article which talks about his fraternity joining. The article was published on 28th January 2015 in the business insider. The article was written to respond to the many negative thoughts that had been said about the lifestyle in Greek. The Greek life had been viewed as childish and hostile (Jacobs par 3). He highlights and discusses the five important reasons that were behind his pleasure in joining the fraternity.
... the fraternity chapter than ourselves. Machiavelli states, “it is far safer to be feared than loved if you cannot be both.”(chap 17). Machiavelli would believe that the pledge process within the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity is being run with a type of government that is cohesive for the greater good of not only the fraternity but the entire community that is surrounding the fraternity. Machiavelli would understand that the end justifies the means of the pledging. Our pledge trainers do not fear being feared more than loved and according to Machiavelli this is one of the characteristics of a good leader.
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
As a member of Pi Kappa Phi, it is not just considered a fraternity to party at, but believe in academic excellence. This includes having a minimum GPA of 2.7 and mandatory philanthropy events for the community. There is nothing better than helping someone in need. I am still a pledge and through the last nine weeks I have experienced and gained more leadership skills than I have had in my whole life. I personally love this place and would bring anyone interested in the fraternity to see what it is really about. The atmosphere always remains safe and friendly to each individual’s personal wants and needs, including my own. The members of the chapter at our university are genuinely good men and have the best intentions with everyone they approach. Tyler Sayers is a member of Pi Kappa Phi at South Alabama. He holds a position as the Secretary of all fraternities and sororities at South Alabama, which makes a huge difference in the Greek system. He is planning to run for President this upcoming term that will be a great addition to the fraternity. It is an amazing feeling that a member of the same fraternity could be in charge of all of the fraternities and sororities on campus. This will prove even more, how dominate we are over other fraternities. I would highly recommend any young man interested in Greek life at USA to check out the Pi Kappa Phi house. In order to find the house, simply look for the letters on the front of the house
This was one of the driving factors as to why he wanted to join Alpha Kappa Psi, to help him learn more about business, networking and the opportunities that can come about. I am a brother who has dedicated countless number of hours to the fraternity, and has helped shape it into what it is today. Whether it is attending strategic planning meetings to help develop the future of the fraternity, to transitioning our bank account to SAGA and taking on the responsibility of learning about the requirements associated to that, I am constantly working to improve my knowledge. Outside of the fraternity, I have always been one to constantly learn new things inside and outside the business world. Because of my dedication to school work, I have been able to get an additional two scholarships during my time at Loyola, just helping show my dedication to knowledge. Lastly, on the knowledge topic, I have many connections to the business world, inside and outside of the Chicago area. My family has been members of the Detroit Yacht Club, almost my whole life. This allows me to develop a strong network of connections in almost every industry. When I turned 21, I became eligible to sign-up for my own membership at the Yacht Club. I chose to do this for a variety of reasons. Besides being my childhood home, having a yacht club membership allows you to visit any
In today’s modern time, college and universities are competitive and impacted; a lot of students work hard and compete to attend the best. Nowadays, high GPA and grades are not the only important factor that college and universities look for, but being an all-around student who is involved with volunteer work, campus clubs, and sports. Many students take the easy route and turn to clubs or bigger social organizations such as the Greek life. Unlike the average clubs or student organizations participating in a fraternity and sorority is a lifetime affiliation and students are only allowed to be committed to one. These social/cultural groups are filled with members who share similar values and interests that can also offer a college life experience, good or bad.
