My Five Takeaway’s In my opinion, goal setting is one of the leading topics of the course. First, goal setting is not new to me, but now I have a greater understanding of how to set achievable and realistic goals. For instance, setting goals throughout this semester in my English, math, and psychology courses have helped to achieve satisfactory grades. Goal setting enabled me to maintain those grades by understanding how to phrase my goals positively, even if I found one of my courses not as interesting, I could stay focused and effectively manage my time. Lastly, setting measurable goals helped to check my progress and be sure I was staying on top of assignments, which allowed freedom from stressing about my courses, which allowed me to have fun in my spare time. Finally, this strategy was especially helpful and I would recommend goal setting for new students. The key is to be sure goals …show more content…
To begin with, scheduling reading and assignments along with my personal obligations allows for organization and ultimately makes the process cohesive. The personalized schedule assignment was an eye opener. After creating the schedule, it was clear that adjustments were needed if it were to be followed. After adjusting the schedule, it was effortless to follow and was effective in helping to stay on task and not fall behind, and ultimately, lead to stable grades in all courses this semester. This is an exceptional tool to ensure one does not fall behind in their studies. Similarly, applying this strategy outside of academics has lasting benefits as well. When scheduling, be sure to include family time, chores, and any extracurricular activities; this approach has improved my time management skills tremendously. To summarize, a personal schedule is beneficial in academics, I encourage new students to create one and be sure to allot extra time and breaks, also, try to incorporate study time for each course every
As you have read in my previous essay my goal is to improve my day to day routine doing so I will need to change my routine to follow my strict yet flexible schedule. In order to accomplish this goal I would plan my days out accordingly to my school schedule where school related task are prioritized. My schedule would go as follows, On
Your schedule will be as open as a barren desert. You will relieve all your stress by procrastinating. You don’t have to worry about the assignment until the day l before it is due, and this is a good thing. as you can zone out and focus on the activity at hand whether that’s browsing online, watching a movie, or hanging out with friends. The assignments will begin to haunt you at first; this will be a challenge that everyone faces, yet you need to realize that paper isn’t going to write itself, and neither are you; at least, not yet. That paper has a long life ahead of it before it needs to get turned in, why make it suffer? Speedily add to it the day before to ensure that no pain goes to the paper. In class, you don’t have to listen, but rather just act like you doing work. You can just look at the notes, that the teacher wrote when you get home. If you forget, it isn’t the end of the world you still have a day to study; the test is tomorrow. Procrastination is the gift that keeps giving. The more you procrastinate, the easier it will get, the more your grades will increase, and the more you’ll have fun. Yet, don’t get too carried away. You must procrastinate but still must complete your assignments. School is important, yet your activities outweigh the need for completion of assignments, so they can wait. What you need and want should come
I’ve never been the type of person to buy into, or even read, many self-help books; however, I really appreciated reading this book. The few previous experiences I’ve had with them seemed very hard to apply to my life. What I think this book did differently was show that although you won’t see results right away, in whatever it is you do, if you do the little things right (or wrong) every day, you will see positive (or negative) results over time. I think one of the most powerful moments of the book was when he mentioned how many people today want to go from planting, directly to harvesting, instead of planting, cultivating, and then harvesting. I see this in my own life as a referee in Junior hockey. I feel as if I am always striving for that level, and sometimes want to be working that next level, even if I am not ready for it. This example of not
Learning that having good time management skills has shown me that I can take my time and accomplish more. When relating this to school, I can honestly say that starting early is the best gift that I can give myself. As a full-time student with a family and a full-time job, my time is a limited resource (Britton & Tesser, 1991 pg.405). When I start early on an assignment, I don't have to rush and if I mess up, I can start over or seek help if necessary. My work schedule doesn’t always agree with my school schedule but for the most part, I try to have all of my school work completed by Thursday. As I'm approaching the last week in this class, I have began to look over the discussion posts first and then I look over the complete section to familiarize myself with the material before I even go to the read section (Chambers, 2015 pg.4). I found that to be especially helpful when I first began this class because the things that I already knew or felt like I knew, I went ahead and did it.
Second, I want to be more engaged in class. I need to be sure that I am up to date for all assignments that are due, motivated myself to do well in classes and hope to achieve a passing grade. By being involving myself with asking for help from professors, seeking out for a tutor and possibility managing my time better. This is a learning goal because I often struggled with being unaware of how I am going to do in class and this can help me understand what to do to be successful in college. I will know if I achieved this goal by the grades I will
Time, the most valuable thing humans own, managing it, no easy task especially to a young undeveloped mind of a teenager, but efficiently managing time is a whole different task in itself. Students take part in extracurriculars and sports in which adding a responsibility to their schedule, but a successful student can handle the responsibilities of playing a sport. Additionally, a large part of being a highly effective student is knowing how to efficiently complete assignments, first by planning out a certain day or if the assignment is due the next day than planning out a time during the day where they complete the assignment. Another large part is completing projects and research papers, planning their schedule to complete such tedious and rigorous assignments over a certain amount of days and not just procrastinating. Working with others, an area that many do not consider a necessary skill, where working with others and collaborating is a huge part of adult life. When students can balance their extracurricular activities, plan out tedious assignments and follow through with their agenda, and work well with others and assess their time as well is all a culmination of what effective students have a skill
If I do not use my time wisely, work can get behind and suffer. I am responsible for keeping paperwork up to date, sending out contracts, verifying information from families among other things. I take pride in working “smarter not harder” by being organized and proficient, this allows me to get more done in a day. This skill is going to be key to my success in school. I will use my time management balance work, school and home life being successful in all fields.
During high school my teachers lectured my classmates and I on goal making. I specifically remember my health teacher using the SMART method; this says goals must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Even though I had a great resource to make smart goals for myself, I never took the time to construct a game plan. Entering the vast new world of college, I want to improve myself by keeping several goals in mind each month, week, and day. My process starts by creating intellectual, psycho-emotional, physical, and social goals to work towards in my four years of college.
On any given day, my time regardless of how planned it is by making lists can be thrown off track due to usually a sick child/pet. No matter how hard I try, I know my kids will get sick and they will expect me to take care of. Since I cannot usually control when that will happen, it’s important that I take advantage of what I can control, such looking ahead at assignments that will need my attention to plan adequate time to complete assignments a head of time, instead of waiting till the last minute. When I know what to expect I can make plans. Another
Now that I am well into my sophomore year of college, I think that I finally have a good idea about time management. Being a full time student in twenty credit hours that is working part time can feel overwhelming at times. There were times in the last year where I felt like I had too much to do, and not enough time. This caused me so much stress, but I couldn’t be mad at anyone but myself. I procrastinated by spending too much time watching TV, and on social media. However, that was not the case at all. Luckily, with time I have learned to get ahead when possible, and to make to-do list. That allows me to get assignments done
The next set of goal setting importance is my personal goals with the first being to over come the obstacles associated with returning to school.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
Homework is achieved at higher levels, causing timing to increase on such task also the ability to learn. Children now at this rate have not only homework to focus on but also scholarships, colleges, extra curriculum activities, and SAT/ACT. The tole can cause stress and anxiety to the student but their work ethics learned through completing given homework can cause the student mindset to enhance short-term retention, understand the content, and construct thinking. But one may ask themselves, how can a single student that has twenty-four hours in the day as any other normal person have the ability to overcome the tremendous task set forth on their plate. Educators suggests that students that has these different tasks in their lives should break down all the requirements and get themselves an organized plan. A organized plan can create a tremendous and helpful insight that balances the students life out and makes it less stressful. The following is a few tips to getting the job done with a considerable outcome. First step, which is obvious, is to take care of yourself that includes getting enough rest and eating well. Secondly is to get a planner or organizational board that shows what assignments or plans the person has to do for the week or month."Managing materials is one of the three key categories of study skills that contribute to students ' ability to organize, remember and apply their knowledge
One of the three most appropriate On Course success strategies that will be best of use to achieve success for me in years to come is discover self-motivation. Defined by Downing as, “finding purpose in their lives by discovering personally meaningful goals and dreams” (296). Being able to use this strategy will be the key to my future success. Having motivation to do all the work given to me from my classes will keep me at a good grade. Passing my classes is what I need to do to reach my goal. I cannot do this without the fuel given to me by my motivation to finish to hard work and reach my destiny. Without my motivation there will be no desire to finish and accomplish what is really important and meaningful in life, and that is not what I want. A good example I keep in my mind to never repeat is senior year and the lack of motivation I had to finish up my last year. I ended with two C’s and that is very disappointing for me. Keeping this in mind will allow me to not lose motivation and keep thinking of the positive outcome because motivation is everything! Good concept to remembering motivation quoted by Downing, “…one formula explains much a...
