Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
The most effective leaders know better than to try to be someone they are not. They should always be searching for opportunities to reinvest in their strengths. Leaders need to stay true to who they are and make sure they have the right people around them. The book says those who surround themselves with similar personalities are at a disadvantage to those who are secure enough to be surrounded by people who strengths will compliment theirs.

Leadership can best be called the personality of the very highest ability-whether in ruling, thinking, imagining, innovation, warring, or religious influencing. Leadership is practiced not so much in words a it is in attitude and in actions. Their actions leave a long lasting memory in the line of history and lead up to may events that occur today. To be a leader one will need many qualities. Leaders have a purpose and strategies to accomplish that purpose. They are driven and motivated. In the end they should be able to attain good results. These innate talents help to make up a leader that will succeed and be efficient in carrying out tasks. But, the purpose of this paper is determine what truly makes a leader successful. A successful leader should be considered more on their impact rather than their accomplishments of their organizations alone for they are not sufficient in determining the key to their success .
Ministry is messy, filled with many dichotomies that that can sabotage a minister’s effectiveness. Can a minister be entrepreneurial while being a good steward? These are the questions that pastors face and must answer correctly in order to be effective.
The leadership is a result of a combination of traits, with special emphasis on the personal qualities of the leader, which he should possess certain personality traits that would be special facilitators in leadership performance. This theory shows that leaders are born as such, there is no likelihood of 'making' them later with personal development techniques.
Adaptation can be both passive and active. Adaptive leadership is primarily an active process of adaptation, during which the leader does not take just a passive effort to adapt to circumstances in which he found himself. The leader should be able to change those circumstances in order to carry out tasks. Some of the basic characteristics of adaptive leaders are: to think constantly and take strategic steps in his community for his good positioning; vision and know how to deploy forces and resources that would be most appropriate for the execution of tasks; to accept the opinion of other members of the organization; to admit his mistakes and leave the non-productive course of action; to be creative and always able to find different ways to arrive at the desired goal; to know he can influence the creation and transformation of the structure of the organization; to be ready to experiment and learn from the experience of others; to be able to make changes in the and risks; to be always ready to improve themselves, to encourage innovations that come from their organization. I think you have done a great job contrasting the two cases through the steps of adaptive leadership. I think your observation "the board got worried that the University would not bring in enough students and they let the President go." I think this illustrates the point of how the President was not communicating with stakeholders at the university such as the board. In his book Biblical Eldership: An Urgent Call to Restore Biblical Church Leadership, author Alexander Strauch defends a bible-based leadership structure designed to govern the church. He argues that a plurality of elders is biblically modeled, apostolically appointed, and best suited to both the familial nature of the Church and the exclusive headship of Christ over her. He defines eldership in the biblical terms of shepherding and concludes that the primary responsibilities of biblical elders are to nurture the flock on God’s Word, lead well, cover the flock against the destructive antics of false teachers, and care for hurting or drifting sheep. He covers all the major New Testament passages that offer direction and provide guidance on elders. Strauch highlights the importance of structure to the health and holiness of the local church and is clear, ultimately structure determines how things are done in the local church… the point is, the structure of the church both reflects and determines our theology and beliefs.”[3] There are many things to be managed within a church structure, but the overall structure of the church

When considering the term management, there has always been a common miss conception that this automatically makes an individual a leader. Leadership is only a single element of the management role. Many times managers are more comfortable utilizing a particular leadership style. While this may work well the majority of the time, certain employees or situations may require a different approach. Good leadership requires that the individual recognize the need for change to motivate their employees to accomplish the task at hand or to reach common goals. Understanding the importance of leadership is essential. However, the key element to focus on is what steps can be taken to improve one’s leadership capabilities. For many individuals this may be a difficult question to answer and may only be possible through self-assessment and reflection.

This is mainly due to the fact that all throughout my life, my family and I have been moving: Nigeria, Ghana, US, and currently Belgium by myself. This led me, at a young age, to learn to quickly adapt to my surroundings in order to continue on with my life or else I would be stuck in a situation with no escape. Studying to Belgium also proved to be useful in improving my adaptability skills. The school system was completely different from what I ever experience especially with studying in the US for the majority of my life. If I didn’t have the adaptability skill and was unable to adapt to the school system,
Another aspect of pastoral ministry is that every pastor is unique. God has gifted each pastor differently and with his own style. It is imperative that a pastor use the gifts that he has to bear witness about Christ. It is also important to preach Christ and not self. It is crucial that a pastor understand who he is, accept himself, and to develop the gifts given by God. Too often, preachers compare themselves to others and envy what they do not have. That is dangerous and sinful. One must accept the gifts given by God and to use them for His glory.
