I think you have done a great job contrasting the two cases through the steps of adaptive leadership. I think your observation "the board got worried that the University would not bring in enough students and they let the President go." I think this illustrates the point of how the President was not communicating with stakeholders at the university such as the board. This lack of communication led to the fear that the board felt, which led to his removal.
In the world of higher education, we as students who have chosen this profession strive to one day possibly becoming a President of an institution. In the article written by Michael D. Cohen and James G. March, “Leadership in an Organized Anarchy” the authors detail their beliefs that most college presidents face four fundamental ambiguities which strike at the heart of a president’s interpretation of leadership. The four ambiguities are ambiguity of purpose, power, experience, and success. But is Cohen’s and March’s concept true for every president and their institution? To determine this I have decided to compare them to the current leadership of 16th president of the University of North Texas (UNT), Dr. Neal Smatresk.
The major concepts of this article relate to the ineffectiveness of school leadership programs. Arthur Levine found that a majority of the programs were inadequate. He noted four areas in which these programs lacked efficiency. These areas of concern were the rise in off-campus low quality programs, weak research-intensive universities that are working towards awarding doctoral degrees in administration, competition for students is causing lowered program quality and admission criteria, and the fact that state and local school districts are adding to the problem by salary incentives for advanced degrees. Levine noted several major issues that affect school administration programs. First, he revealed that many people who had finished these programs agreed that the curriculum was irrelevant; they said that it did prepare them to deal with "on-the-job issues." Second, the issues of low admission and graduation standards were addressed. The study illustrated how many schools lower their standards to increase admission and create tuition "cash cows." Third, he discussed the issue of these schools having weak faculties.
As a leader candidate, I can understand the challenges and multiplicity of complications that administrators must face each day. However, I will not accept any remote possibility that the students must be affected by some flaws of the school organization. We all as leaders, must be strategic with people, time, and money to guide our students towards an academic success.

These officers are learning to make decisions under chaotic conditions and are becoming more mentally agile. The Army is changing. The Army is transforming its capabilities in the war in Iraq to be effective and successful. General Schoomaker states that we will not accomplish our goals as a nation in the 21st century unless our Army becomes much more agile but with the capacity for long term, sustained level of conflict. The Army is in the process of eliminating its old ways of war, it has to become somewhat of a decathlete. Trained for multiple events across a broad spectrum not just one event like a track athlete.

In order to explain the adaptive leadership in the case of Mihailovic I will briefly review the essence of adaptation and adaptive leadership.
Leaders in the school have hard decisions to help make on a daily basis. They need to evaluate their decisions to make sure they are ethical and effective. Administrators need to listen to all sides of a situation and evaluate all options before they make a decision. This process is difficult because administrators need to make sure that all parties involved are satisfied with the decision that was formed.

Transformational Leadership and Adaptive Leadership theory will be discussed in relation to IT governance. De Haes, Van Grembergen and Debreceny (2013) formulate the main ideas of IT governance have only been around 20 years, but, the amount of literature is copious and is still providing a prolific amounts of current documentation. Both Transformational Leadership and Adaptive Leadership represent appropriate and critical leadership styles for organizations that strive to keep the pace of continuous technological advancements and that are focused on the rapid adoption of new business concepts and process improvements (Xenikou & Simosi, 2006). The specific benefits and problems associated with each leadership style have organizational opportunities and difficulties. The timing of each leadership style when applied requires timing and cooperation. Yet they both have similar operational goals, to improve the processes of IT governance using the innate strengths of each leadership style for the betterment of the organization. Knowing the strengths of each leadership style facilitate implementation, mastering the pitfalls of each leadership style improves metacognitive understanding of the risks and weaknesses involved in the process.
In organizations aspiring for growth and continual improvement, relationships are more intricate and alternatives more numerous than the either/or imposition implied by the notion of leaders and followers. Practically no one leads all of the time. Leaders also work as followers; all in all, “everyone uses a portion of their day following and another portion leading” (Galie and Bopst, 2006, p. 11).
While neither is the perfect leader, they both had qualities that should have worked well together, unfortunately, the previously leaders blasé attitude towards the mission did not give the new Department Head the confidence to delegate to current
Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way. Throughout the semester for my leadership class, I have expanded the knowledge in numerous ways. I now have fully understanding of the purpose and process of leadership to a society. Being a leader one must maintain an image of being the role model. I believe that this is leader should be who is someone who has the ability to influence, encourage, listen, and nurture. They are able to inspire, stimulate, persuade, shape, and have an effect on others.
Leadership is not always in the hands of members and it continually meet with dilemmas and difficulties.
